Warm-up

1. Teacher leads students to read the title of Unit 3 and ask： What is this unit about?  （Olympic motto---sports）
2. Teacher plays the video about Olympics and asks students to watch and find the answers to two questions.
3. Teacher asks students to look at a picture of a sportsman and discuss about his name， sport and position.

4. Students talk about positions on a basketball court. Teacher offers the five positions in English on blackboard and lead students to match them with the definition in Exercise 1.

Pre-reading

1. Teacher asks students to look at the pictures and the title on page 26-27 and guess the content of the passage.
2. Teacher guides students to analyze the title： The Road to Success. Is this road smooth? What obstacles are probably there on the road?

Teacher encourages students to predict the author’s purpose in writing the passage.

1. Teacher asks the students to read the first sentence of each paragraph of the passage and locate the answer to the questions：

（2）. What difficulties are there on his road to success? （road） （Para. 3）

（3）. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the passage? （Para. 5）

2. Genre： sports news， focusing more and more on values and athletes’ positive influence on people.

1. Teacher asks Students to read the passage carefully and answer these questions：

（1）. Why does the author mention the “simple basket” at the start of the passage?

（2）. What things did Stephen Curry learn on the muddy basketball court?

（3）. Stephen Curry chose to be a big fish in a small pond after high school---to play college ball at the small， little known Davidson College. Do you think it’s a wise decision and why?

（4）. “I know it inspires a lot of the next generation… to value the skill of it…”. （Para. 5） What does it refer to?
