    Step 1 Free talk
    T asks Ss t express their feelings abut their new schl life and mre specifically abut schl clubs.
    T: Hell, bys and girls. Since yu have been in senir high schl fr sme time, what’s yur feeling abut yur new schl life?
    T: Yu knw, there are varius clubs in ur schl, such as the English Speech Club, the Ftball Club and s n. D yu want t jin any schl club?
    T: D yu want t have any new clubs? If pssible, what kind f club d yu want t start? D yu knw hw t start a club? Tday we will first listen t a cnversatin abut starting a new schl club, and then read a prpsal fr a new club.

    Step 2 Listening
    Pre-listening
    T encurages Ss t predict befre listening t the cnversatin.
    T: Befre we listen, please guess the relatinship between Maggie and Mr Zhu.
    T: G thrugh the steps f part A1and circle the key infrmatin. Then, try t put the steps in yur wn rder.
    Pssible key infrmatin:

    2. While-listening
    Ss listen t the cnversatin fr the first time and finish the exercise f A1.
    T: Nw, please listen t the cnversatin and put the steps f A1 in the crrect rder. After that, cmpare yur versin with the crrect ne.
    Ss read A2, try filling in the blanks and then listen again t check their answers.
    T: Since yu have understd the right steps f starting the new club, nw please g thrugh the rubrics f A2. Then listen t their cnversatin again and get mre detailed infrmatin. Are yur riginal answers different frm the right nes?
    Ss listen again and pay attentin t the wrding and intnatin f Maggie and Mr Zhu. Try t
    figure ut their identities and persnalities.
    T: Bys and girls, when we listen t a cnversatin, we shuld try t feel the emtins and persnalities f the peple. Can yu say smething abut Maggie and Mr Zhu? Fr example, yu can describe them in this way: Maggie shws great respect fr Mr Zhu when asking abut starting a new schl club. She is brave and enthusiastic, while Mr. Zhu is very friendly and easy-ging and patient. Take ntes if necessary.

    Befre reading
    T asks Ss t cme up with items the prpsal might include befre reading
    T: My yung friends, after the cnversatin, Maggie wrte a prpsal fr her club. Nw, let’s list sme items her prpsal might include. Fr example, her prpsal might cver the club name, the club leader, the club aim and s n. Can yu cme up with ther items?

    Critical reading
    T encurages Ss t cmpare their versin with Maggie’s prpsal
    T: Nw, turn t Page 9 and read the prpsal carefully. Is it different frm yurs? Which is better? Why?

    Reading fr the structure
    T helps students t knw what a frmal prpsal is like and enhances Ss’ understanding f the structure.
    T: As we can see, the structure f a prpsal shuld include such elements. Next perid, yu are suppsed t write a prpsal.

    Step 4 Self-assessment
    T asks Ss t answer the fllwing three questins t have a self-assessment.
    T: Befre we end ur class, please answer the questins. Yu can chse frm the three answers accrding t yur wn situatin.

    b With Mr Zhu’s help, find a place fr the club and set up the first meeting.
    c Write a prpsal fr the new club.
    d Wait fr the prpsal t be accepted by the principal.
    e Find at least five students t sign up fr the first meeting.
