    教学设计

    In the grammar section, the exercises of sentence structures will help the students to review the passive voice of the present continuous tense. Besides, describing what’s happening in the pictures further strengthens students' understanding and application of this grammatical item.

    The vocabulary learning mainly focuses on expressions about Chinese art forms. A reading passage related to a Chinese art festival will teach students how to express opinions about traditional artworks. In addition, students will develop their listening ability by listening to the conversation. At the same time, through the comprehensive training of skills in real context, students can deepen their understanding of unit topics and improve the ability of comprehensive language use.

    1. Guide the students to grasp the structure and usages of the present continuous passive so that students can use the tense according to the context.

    2. Guide the students to increase their vocabulary about Chinese art forms and learn to introduce traditional Chinese art forms.

    3. Help the students develop their listening ability. In listening, the students are expected to understand the main idea of the listening material and correctly identify the speakers’ different opinions towards contemporary artworks.

    4. Lead the students to introduce famous Chinese art forms and enhance the confidence of Chinese culture.

    1. Guide the students to correctly use the present continuous passive in the real context.

    2. Lead the students to talk about famous Chinese art forms and share their opinions on different art forms with the class.

    3. Help the students develop the listening ability to get the main idea of the conversation. 

    Step 1  Review the present continuous passive

    Activity 1 Guide the students to discover and summarize the rules for the use of passive structure of the present continuous tense.

    1. Review the definition and the structure of the present continuous tense.

    2. Ask the students to read the example sentences, pay attention to the bold part and understand the meaning of the bold part.

    3. Compare the passive form with the active form of the present continuous tense and skillfully transform the two structures.

    And just look at how the wind is folding her dress!

    And just look at how her dress is being folded by the wind!

    b

    People are pushing me around quite a bit, in fact.

    I’m being pushed around quite a bit, in fact.

    Step 2  Practice

    Activity 2   Rewrite the underlined parts using the passive structure.

    Activity 3 

    According to the pictures, make sentences using the passive forms of the expressions given

    1.

    Various works of art are being arranged (arrange) in the school exhibition room.

    2.

    The ground of the room is being swept(sweep).

    3.

    The walls of the exhibition room are being painted (paint).

    4.

    A statue made of plaster is being carried (carry) over.

    5.

    Some paintings are being put (put) up onto the wall.

    6.

    The colored lights are being hung (hang) up across the room.

    7.

    The illustrations of the exhibits are being written (write) .

    Step 3  Vocabulary

    Activity 4

    1. look at the pictures showing Chinese art forms and know the meanings of the art terms.

    2. Share your experience about trying one of the art forms with the class.

    Activity 5

    Read the passage about an experience of taking part in a Chinese art festival and then complete the passage with the expressions in Activity 4. 

    Activity 6

    Talk about a Chinese art form that your home town is well-known for.

    My hometown is well-known for the traditional art of ...

    Step 4  Before listening

    1. Read “ Did You Know?” to know something about contemporary art.

    2. learn about developing a listening skill--master where and when to pause while listening.

    Step 5  Listening

    Activity 7

    Listen to the conversation and get the main idea of the dialogue.

    Activity 8

    Listen the conversation once more and get more details from it, and complete the table on Page 43.

    Activity 9

    If time permits, ask the students to talk about how Jill and Andrew express their opinions towards contemporary artworks. 

    Step 6  Language appreciation

              1. What caught my attention first was a 15th -century Qinghua bowl in a breathtaking exhibition of Chinese porcelain.

              [句式分析] “What caught my attention first” 是由what引导的主语从句what在主语从句中充当主语。 “breathtaking” 意为令人赞叹的;壮观的

              [尝试翻译] 首先引起我注意的是一件15世纪的清华瓷碗,它在一场激动人心的中国瓷器展览中展出。

              2. Then I tried some some paper-cutting, that is, making images out of paper.

    [句式分析]  “that is” 位于句中,前后用逗号隔开, 该表达意为即;就是说;换言之, 其后面部分 making images out of paper” 充当 “paper-cutting”的同位语

              [尝试翻译] 然后我尝试了一些剪纸,也就是用纸做成各种图样

    Step 7: Homework

       1.  Review key words and expressions learned in this period.

       2.  Consolidate the usages of the present continuous passive.
