As the world around them is changing, teenagers continue to need guidance and support from both parents. Studies show that teens who have an active relationship with their fathers are less likely to involve(牵涉) themselves in dangerous behavior and more likely to succeed in school and develop higher self-worth, because their fathers go beyond social expectations to devote attention to them.
Peer(同龄人) pressure has always been a big part of the teens’ experience. Even the best father can’t completely protect their kids from the growing influence of their peer group. However, studies show that teenagers whose fathers focus on their lives are more likely to resist(抵抗) the more bad effects of peer pressure, taking drugs, for example.
Teens may not like to admit it, but they are watching their parents closely and often follow their example. An interesting finding explains just how important parents are, especially Dad. Swiss researchers discovered that if Dad attends church, even though Mom doesn’t, 44 percent of the kids are still more likely to keep going to church as adults. But if Mom goes regularly and Dad never shows up, only 2 percent of the kids continue to attend.
Teenagers face a lot of difficult choices, especially in their late teens. Fathers don’t get to make those options for them, but they can be influenced. For example, teenagers can learn a lot from their parents’ concern on what to do when they finish high school. Should they go directly to college and, if so, where? Should they consider going to trade schools, joining the army or looking for a job? A father’s guidance brings a long-term perspective that teens often lack to these important decisions.
    24. Teenagers without fathers’ focus are more likely to ________.
    A. have higher self-worth B. experience some dangerous things
    C. become the best students in school D. resist all bad effects of peer pressure
    25. What does the third paragraph tell us?
    A. More teenagers pay no attention to their parents.
    B. Teenagers often treat their fathers as role models.
    C. Teenagers never attend church with their mothers.
    D. Fewer teenagers like to attend church with their fathers.
    26. Which can replace the underlined word “perspective” in the last paragraph?
    A. Point of view. B. Job.
    C. School. D. Lots of concern.
    27. What can we learn from the text?
    A. Fathers should make choices for teenagers directly.
    B. Teenagers care less about what their parents do.
    C. Mothers have no impact on their children’s life.
    D. Teenagers are greatly influenced by their fathers.
    C
I really did not know much about e-waste until this passing of Earth Day. I feel it a pity that I am actually skilled in the technology field. While I appreciate all the ways that technology has made our lives better, it comes at an environment cost.
Electronic waste, also known as “e-waste”, is the term used to describe the waste from useless electronics. These items include anything from computers, TVs and phones to washing machines and refrigerators. Most of these electronics are often not rubbish, but simply given up for the latest version(版本) on the market.
Findings show that we produced 41.8 million tons of e-waste all over the world in 2014. Even more surprisingly, it is believed that less than one-sixth is properly recycled or reused. While the bad influence of e-waste is big and growing, most people probably don’t realize its reach. The lack(缺乏) of proper recycling leads to harmful materials going into the environment. Harmful materials cause all sorts of health problems.
Maybe the worst part of this problem is that most ewaste from developed countries is exported(出口) to developing countries, which is picked over by locals who want to mine useful materials from it. The improper recovery methods are often performed by local women and children. Many survive on mining these products, but with poor practices and regulations, it comes at a much higher cost — the health of the planet and its people.
    28. What does the author probably do?
    A. A news reporter. B. A law student.
    C. A technical engineer. D. An environment professor.
    29. Most ewaste refers to electronic products that ________.
    A. are thrown away for being out-of-date B. are actually rubbish
    C. cannot be used again D. sell badly on the market
    30. According to the text, how does the public see e-waste?
    A. They try to avoid it. B. They think nothing of it.
    C. They try to make use of it. D. They make lots of research on it.
    31. Why do some developing countries bring in e-waste?
    A. To earn money. B. To study it carefully.
    C. To get it reused properly. D. To help take it apart.
    D
Ecofriendly Vauban, lied in the southwest part of Germany, has everything — tree-lined streets, perfect houses — but it’s missing one urban feature of the last 100 years or so: the car. And Vauban residents don’t mind one bit. Vauban doesn’t ban cars entirely. Rather, it just tries to reduce the use of cars by creating “parking-free” and “car-free” living. In Vauban, parking spots are a no-no private property. Cars can only be parked in public parking lots, so living without a car saves residents the cost of parking in the public lot. Cars also are prevented from using certain roads and must stick to strict speed limits. With these limitations, fewer than 20 percent of residents own cars. And now, with a population of 5,500, it’s attracting attention from around the world. Can an ecofriendly city like Vauban be a model for Americans to stop their overreliance on the cars?
Sometimes when I watch a news report what’s in the back of my mind is what isn’t being reported or stressed. While this ecofriendly city is inspiring in that it shows residents getting exercise and fresh air through the majority use of bicycles, as well as good old-fashioned walking, common sense would tell you that even for a place like Vauban, Germany, it owes its existence to the cars.
Do you think that bicycles were able to transport all the construction materials that were needed to build and maintain the ecofriendly homes and businesses in Vauban? It took cars to help build this city. It’s one of the paradoxes of life that sometimes in order to get away from relying on something like the car, you actually have to rely on that very thing at the beginning and into the foreseeable future to some degree.
I myself haven’t owned a car for more than 14 years, and mostly get around town running, walking, or using public transportation. There are times I wish I had one, since it would make many things easier, but overall I’m glad not to have to deal with the headaches of owning a car, which caused me to get rid of it in the first place. And all the walking and running has helped to keep me fit and healthy. To get even close to being like ecofriendly Vauban, Americans will need to absolutely change the way they live. Commuting(乘车上下班) patterns will have to change, public transportation will have to be invested in, and so on. And though ending our love affair with the car will be impossible during my lifetime, we may at least start to see more Vauban-like areas in the USA.
We can hope that Americans will consider using their feet more to get around, cutting down on pollution, and giving themselves some more exercise.
    32. Why don’t over 80% of the residents in Vauban own car?
    A. The streets there are very narrow.
    B. There are many limitations on the use of cars.
    C. The government limits the number of cars.
    D. Most cars belong to their public property.
    33. From Paragraph 3 we can know that getting away from cars in cities are ________.
    A. opposite things B. big shortcomings
    C. great strengths D. firm bases
    34. How does the writer feel of not owning a car?
    A. Curious. B. Proud.
    C. Grateful. D. Regretful.
    35. What is the attitude towards Americans about the lifestyle according to the writer?
    A. Not mentioned. B. They are not eco-friendly.
    C. They have too many cars. D. They work hard.

    阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
The best way to go on a holiday
Holidays with family can be hard and there can be many arguments. One friend told me that both she and her sister were in tears after arguing on holiday when their flight had even taken off. 36 In my own family, my dad always wants to go to a museum, my mom and my sister want to shop, and I want to go to a coffee shop. 37 Travelling with family can be very cheap or even free, though, if parents pay.
Holidays with friends are not usually as cheap and money always plays an important role. It’s normal for everyone to have different budgets and there needs to be a lot of compromises, from where you stay to what you eat. This surely causes problems.
38 When on holiday with friends, you do different things from what you do with family. It’s also good for learning more about your friends, and sharing experiences together. Even though we spend a lot of time with our friends, travelling with them is different and is a way to strengthen a friendship.
When choosing with whom to travel, there is another option: Alone. 39 For example, you don’t have to compromise on money issues. You can choose what you want to do and it can also be a good opportunity to meet new people, especially when staying in hotels.
Personally I prefer travelling alone because there are fewer arguments. Of course, sometimes I like holidays with other people. 40
    A. For the most part, we end up shopping.
    B. That way, there is always someone to talk to.
    C. Nonetheless, travelling with friends can be incredible fun.
    D. Not everybody in the family wants to do the same thing.
    E. Travelling alone has advantages over traveling with other people.
    F. Travelling with them is different and a way to strengthen a friendship.
    G. Almost everybody likes to relax, to visit new places and see new things.

    第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
    阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
It has been some time since Jack saw the old man. College, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit(追寻) of the dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.
Over the phone, his mother told him, “Mr.Belser died last night. The funeral(葬礼) is on Wednesday.” Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel(新闻短片) as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.
    “Jack, did you hear me?”
“Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It’s been so long since I thought of him. I’m sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago,” Jack said.
“Well, he didn’t forget you. Every time I saw him he’d ask how you were doing. He’d reminisce(回忆) about the many days you spent over ‘his side of the fence’ as he put it,” Mom told him.
“I loved that old house he lived in,” Jack said.
“You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr.Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man’s influence in your life,” she said.
“He’s the one who taught me carpentry. I wouldn’t be in this business if it weren’t for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things that he thought were important. Mom, I’ll be there for the funeral,” Jack said.
Busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr.Belser’s funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.
The night before he had to return home, Jack and his mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time, which was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories: every picture, every piece of furniture. Jack stopped suddenly.
“What’s wrong, Jack?” his mom asked.
“The box is gone,” he said.
    “What box?” Mom asked.
“There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he’d ever told me was ‘the thing I value most’,” Jack said.
It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.
“Now I’ll never know what was so valuable to him,” Jack said sadly.

    第一部分
    听力材料
    (Text 1)
M: Susan, do you want orange or some tea?
W: Sorry, Mike, but I like neither of them. Do you know how to make coffee?
    (Text 2)
M: It’s July 10 already. I thought Jim was supposed to come back today. Why isn’t he here yet?
W: Oh, he decided to put off his return date. He’ll be back the day after tomorrow.
    (Text 3)
M: Hi, Laura. Could you translate this report for me? The manager needs it by 4 p.m., but I have to attend a meeting now.
W: All right. I’ll do it right away.
    (Text 4)
W: I was supposed to hand in my paper today. My teacher gave us a task to research and write about unusual animals. I was supposed to write about the golden monkey and the panda.
M: So did you get it done?
W: Not really. I only wrote a little about the panda.
    (Text 5)
W: Come and look at my bedroom. I’ve just finished painting it.

    听第6段材料,回答第6、7题。
    (Text 6)
W: Sam, your English is very good. How long have you learned it?
M: I began to learn it when I was fifteen years old.
W: That’s hard to believe. You’ve learned it for only three years and you can speak it so well now. So how do you usually learn it?
M: I have an old video recorder and I used to record movies and other TV shows. Then I watched them later. But now I like reading Harry Potter books. It’s a very successful method for me.

W: No. Was it any good?
M: It was great. Frank Jones always makes me laugh.
W: I think he should be more serious. All the questions are really easy, and just about pop music or movie stars I’m not interested in.
M: Actually, they start off a bit easy but they get harder and harder as the show goes on.
W: Usually I’m not bad at general knowledge questions — especially ones about history or geography.
M: Yeah, you’re good at those subjects, but I’m better at math and science.
    听第8段材料,回答第10至12题。

    M: What’s the club about?
W: We want to help children get better at school, mainly in reading and writing.
M: What do you send to the members?
W: This month, it’s a magazine about films and videos. A month ago everyone got a red pen. It’s always something different.
M: How nice. Are there any competitions?
    W: Yes.
M: Are they every month too?
W: Just once a year, and this year’s competition is next week!
M: Great! And how much does it cost?
W: For twelve months it’s six pounds. So for six months it’s half-price.
    M: OK, thanks.

    (Text 9)
W: Hi! I know you were really worried about your first night. How did it go?
M: You weren’t there? I thought you were coming with Peter.
W: No. Thursdays after school is Arts Club, and it finished really late yesterday.
M: Actually, it’s probably a good thing you didn’t come last night — so many things went wrong!
W: First nights are always like that! I remember when I was in a play in my second year. We all forgot our lines and one student was so nervous she couldn’t continue with the play.
M: Surprisingly, I didn’t forget my words, but Harry did.
    W: So, what happened?
M: Well, luckily I knew his lines too, so I told him very quietly. But that wasn’t the only thing. Mark fell over a chair. It was supposed to be a sad bit! Oh, and you won’t believe this — the lights all went off at the end of the play. It was so funny — we had to act in darkness. In fact, Fred turned off the wrong lights. Our teacher Mr. Tim was very angry!
    W: I’m not surprised!

Hello, Kate. I decided to send you a speaking letter! Today it is very hot here. I hope tomorrow it will be cloudy and not so hot.
I am happy that you have decided to start learning French like me. When I come to visit you in London in the spring, we can talk together in French. Yesterday, I returned from my short holiday camping in Scotland. I went with my friend Melissa. She is from Paris. We camped near Edinburgh but the weather was terrible for the whole four days. Everything was so wet. But while we were there, we visited some village schools and an art museum.
On the last day we borrowed a boat and went out onto a lake. I am starting my new job tomorrow at the library near my house. How is your job at the supermarket? Please tell me what you are doing this month. I am going to work out at the gym now!

    第二节
    参考范文:
    Paragraph 1:
Returning to his office the next day, he found a package on his desk. The return address caught his attention. It read “Mr.Belser”. Jack tore the package open. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack’s hands shook as he read the note inside. “Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It’s the thing I valued most in my life.” A small key was taped to the note. His heart racing, and tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch. Running his fingers slowly over the fine cover, he opened it.
    Paragraph 2:
Inside he found these words carved: Jack, thanks for your time! Belser. “Oh, My God! This is the thing he valued most…” Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his assistant and cleared his appointments for the next two days. “Why?” his assistant asked. “I need some time to spend with my wife and son,” he said.
