Vincent van Ggh was brn near Brabant, the sn f a minister.
He was largely self-taught as an artist, althugh he received help frm his cusin, Mauve. His first wrks, influenced by ne f his artistic heres, Millet,were heavily painted, mud-clred and clumsy attempts t represent the life f the pr (e.g. Ptat-Eaters, 1885, Amsterdam),
He mved t Paris in 1886, living with his devted brther, The, frm whm he met with many artists. In Paris, he discvered clr as well as the divisinist(新印象画派的) ideas which helped t create the distinctive dashed brushstrkes (虚线技巧) f his later wrk (e.g. Pere Tanguy, 1887, Paris).
He mved t Arles, in the suth f France, in 1888, hping t establish an artists' clny there, and was immediately struck by the ht reds and yellws f the Mediterranean, which he increasingly used symblically t represent his wn mds (e.g. Sunflwers, 1888, Lndn, Natinal Gallery).
He mved t Auvers, t be clser t The in 1890 - his last 70 days spent in a hectic(狂热的) prgram f painting. He died, having sld nly ne wrk, fllwing a btched suicide attempt.
Vincent van Ggh is well-regarded as ne f the greatest and mst famus artists, ever. His life and wrk has inspired and influenced much f art histry since his tragic(悲剧的) death in 1890.
