    Every Saturday, Jnathan and hundreds f ther children frm New Yrk City public schls take classes at Natinal Dance Institute (NDI).     Each year in Trnt thusands f schl children make the best use f their imaginatins and their creative abilities in wrkshps prvided by an rganizatin called the Inner City Angels. These children wrk directly with prfessinal artists n different art prgrams.
    Natalie McHaffie is ne f the many prfessinal artists wh wrk with the Inner City Angels. “My purpse is t teach the children abut design,” she says. “Once they learn hw t put things tgether, they can use that knwledge fr ther things they may want t d, such as making a kite r designing a huse.”
    Recently Ms. McHaffie wrked with 16 children at St. Bernard Schl t create a wall painting in the hallway leading t the kindergarten classrm. Tgether they designed and did the wall painting during ne schl week.
    When Ms. McHaffie first met the student artists, she tld them, “We must d a painting that will nt nly please the kindergarten kids but will als ffer them infrmatin.”
