Want to stay away from coldsPut on a happy face.

Compared to unhappy peoplethose who are cheerful and relaxed are less likely to suffer from coldsaccording to a new study. It's possible that being happy helps the body fight illnesssaid the researchers from New York University.

It seems that positive(积极的)feelings may reduce the danger of illnesssaid the study's chief researcher Sheldon Cohen.

In an earlier studyCohen found that people who were cheerful and lively caught coughs and colds less often.People who showed feelings were also less likely to tell their doctors that they felt ill.

In this studyCohen's interviewed 193 adults every day for two weeks.During the interviewsthe people told researchers about the happy or sad feelings they had that day. After the two weeksthe people were given colds by doctors and had to stay alone in a room for six days.

The result showed that everyone in the study was equally(相等地)likely to get ill.But for people who said they felt happy during the research periodtheir illness was less serious and lasted for a shorter time.

Cohen believes that when people experience positive feelingstheir body may produce a chemical that helps fight illness and disease. So if you are worried about your healthlook on the bright side more often.

Carolyn Keating was excited to land a job interview. She knew that being  on time was essential to making a good impressionbut there was just one problem.I had written down the address wrong.I meant to check it the night  beforebut I didn't.When Keating finally arrived at the correct addressshe was 30 minutes late.I felt embarrassedshe said.I carried that insecureworried energy throughout the interview. She didn't get the job.

For some peoplebeing on time seems nearly impossible. They're always  running out of the door in_a_frenzyarriving everywhere at least 10 minutes late.If this sounds like youhave you ever wished you could break the patternAccording to Julie Morgensternauthor of Time Management From the Inside  Outthe first step is to realize the importance of promptness(准时)Once you feel motivated to make a changeMorgenstern says the next step is to figure  out why you're always late.

If you're always late by a different amount of timefive minutes  sometimes,15or even 40 minutes other timesit is likely that the cause is technical. That means you are not good at estimating(估算)how long things take.Morgenstern said.“And this is one of the common reasons for being late.”

The solutionMorgenstern saysis to“become a better time estimator”She  suggests keeping track of everything you do for a week or two.“Write down how long you think each thing will take and then how long it actually took”. This will help you find a patternso you can adjust(调整)your time estimates.

Keating says this method is helpful. You have to be realistic about how long certain things takeespecially things you do daily. If you know it takes 20 minutes to blowdry your hairallow yourself 20 minutes to do itshe said“and leave a little extra time for those days when your hair is uncooperative.”

    【语篇解读】 语篇类型是说明文,主题语境是生活。有些人总是迟到,那么如何改掉这个坏习惯呢?

AGoing out as early as possible.

    BRecording your daily activities.

CFiguring out how long each thing takes.

DGetting everything ready ahead of time.

    C [细节理解题。根据倒数第二段可知,解决一个人技术上迟到的方法是对每件事情花费的时间做出更准确的预判。]

    AThe importance of promptness.

    BThe consequences of being late.

CMethods for adjusting your time estimates.
