    In this semester, Prfessr Van Rijnsever f Utrecht University f the Netherlands is t teach “Dutch Culture in the Wrld”, in English.
    The language is the university's chice. Actually sixty percent f the master's prgrams at Utrecht University are in English. At higher degrees' level, n curses are taught in Dutch at all.

    If yu're like me and can speak nly English, travelling arund Eurpe makes yu feel pretty dumb. I find almst every persn there is fluent in at least tw languages. I suppse it's necessary when s many different cuntries, each with its wn language, have t interact s clsely with ne anther.
    But the level f the linguistic ability there still amazes me. A shpkeeper in Venice the ther day was talking t me in English, while at the same time in French and Italian with tw ther shppers. I was curius. “Hw many languages d yu speak?” I asked. She thught a bit, saying, “Italian, Japanese, French, Spanish and German. But I dn't speak English well.”
    That's why I feel stupid.
