    ●从容说课
    This is the fifth perid f this unit. In this part,tw items will be dealt with,that is,the wrds left in the vcabulary,the reading in the wrkbk. The first item,learning new wrds left in the vcabulary is t remve the barrier in the fllwing study. And hw t let students learn the wrds with interest is a difficult issue. I think it is better t give students the chance t learn new wrds by themselves. Let students lk up wrds in the dictinary and then cmmunicate with thers in class,which can inspire students. And then let them make up sme sentences. The secnd item is anther passage n the subject “English”.It gives students much mre infrmatin n English. T deal with this passage,7 steps are designed:(1)predict what will be talked (2)listen t find ut answers (3)answer questins (4)scanning t fill in a table (5)summary (6)discussin (7)hmewrk

    Step 1 Greetings
    Greet the whle class as usual.
    Step 2 New wrds and vcabulary
    T:Yesterday,I asked yu t lk up the wrds left in the vcabulary in the dictinary. Have yu been prepared fr it?Nw,let’s have a game. Let’s divide the whle class int 2 grups. Either grup chses ne student as a representative. I’ll shw the representative a wrd r a phrase,she r he shuld explain it in English. If the grup’s members can guess it,yur grup will win 10 pints. Either grup has 5 chances. Let’s g!

    1.cmmand
    v.命令,指挥
    cmmand sb. t d;cmmand sth.;博得,应得
    cmmand that-clause
    cmmanded his man t retreat.

    The king cmmanded that she (shuld) be executed.(建议,命令,要求一类词后从句中用虚拟语气,此类动词有suggest,advise,rder,request,require,cmmand,demand...)

    S:I think a dictinary is a great help.
    T:Yeah. When we meet acrss new wrds we ften lk them up in a dictinary. What is the mst widely-used dictinary in Chinese?
    S:Xinhua Dictinary.
    T:Then which ne d yu think is used widely in English?
    S:I’m srry I have n idea.
    T:It’s Lngman Dictinary and the Oxfrd English Dictinary. Tday,we’ll read a passage n the Oxfrd English Dictinary. Nw accrding t the title,what d yu think will be mentined in the passage?
    S:I think the writer,the time when was it written,why it was written,hw it was written,the feature f the dictinary will be mentined.
    T:Nw,let’s listen t it t see whether yur answer is right.

    T:Yes. Nw let’s read the last paragraph. And then finish the table abut ntes n James Murray’s life with yur partners.

    T:After reading it,can yu say smething abut Murray?Let’s d a chain reactin. Each student just says ne sentence abut Murray.
    T:D yu think it wrth s these peple’s spending s much time n?Why?Nw discuss with yur partner and list sme reasns.(discuss fr abut 3 minutes) Nw,it’s shw time.
    S:We think that it wrth their jb. If there were n dictinaries,peple wuld have n rule t guide them while using the language,which will lead t a mess in English because different peple wuld use different laws t use it. Then there will be mre difficulty in understanding ne anther. With the dictinary,peple have a set rule t judge whether their way f using the language is right.
    Step 5 Summary and hmewrk
    Tday,we have learned the wrds left in the vcabulary and we’ve gt sme infrmatin n the large English dictinary. After class,please read the wrds again and again t recite them and try t use them t make up sentences.

    Abut the Oxfrd English Dictinary
    The Oxfrd English Dictinary is the accepted authrity n the evlutin f the English language ver the last millennium. It is an unsurpassed guide t the meaning,histry,and prnunciatin f ver half a millin wrds,bth present and past. It traces the usage f wrds thrugh 2.5 millin qutatins frm a wide range f internatinal English language surces,frm classic literature and specialist peridicals t film scripts and ckery bks.
    The OED cvers wrds frm acrss the English-speaking wrld,frm Nrth America t Suth Africa,frm Australia and New Zealand t the Caribbean. It als ffers the best in etymlgical analysis and in listing f variant spellings,and it shws prnunciatin using the Internatinal Phnetic Alphabet.
    As the OED is a histrical dictinary,its entry structure is very different frm that f a dictinary f current English,in which nly present-day senses are cvered,and in which the mst cmmn meanings r senses are described first. Fr each wrd in the OED,the varius grupings f senses are dealt with in chrnlgical rder accrding t the qutatin evidence,i.e. the senses with the earliest qutatins appear first,and the senses which have develped mre recently appear further dwn the entry. In a cmplex entry with many strands,the develpment ver time can be seen in a structure with several “branches”.
