    Elizabeth Macarthur was brn in Devn, England n 14 August 1766.She came t Australia with her husband,Jhn Macarthur,an army fficer,in June 1790.She is best­knwn fr her rle in starting the wl industry in Australia.
    Shrtly after arriving in New Suth Wales,Jhn was given 100 acres f land in Parramatta,where he held a high psitin.He named the land Elizabeth Farm.In letters t her family in England,Elizabeth described her huse as “a very excellent brick building”.In 1805 Jhn was given anther large piece f land,which he named Camden Park.
    In 1796 Jhn bught his first merin sheep,a breed (品种) that prduces very gd wl.Other farmers in the area als bught merin sheep,but they crss­bred them with ther breeds,which affected the quality f wl.Jhn and Elizabeth wrked hard t build up their number f sheep,and by 1803 they had 4,000 almst­pure merins.They sent their wl t England fr the first time in 1807.
    Jhn Macarthur was an argumentative man wh ften argued with peple in authrity (权威).In 1808 he had an angry argument with the gvernr f New Suth Wales, and was frced t leave Australia fr nine years.During that time Elizabeth nt nly tk care f their seven surviving children,but she als lked after the sheep at bth Elizabeth Farm and Camden Park with great success.She wrte lng letters t her husband in England,giving him detailed reprts,and fllwed the instructins in his letters fr further develping their business.

    Rsalind Franklin was a British chemist,wh was brn t a Jewish family in Lndn in 1920.Frm an early age,Franklin shwed a great interest in mathematics and science.Althugh her father dubted abut her path,he sent her t St Paul's Girls' Schl,ne f the very few schls which taught science t girls.She passed her final exams and in 1938,went t Newnham Cllege,Cambridge,where she studied chemistry.After three years,she graduated thugh it wasn't until 1947 that Cambridge frmally awarded B.A.degrees t wmen.
    After graduating,Franklin wrked first in Cambridge and later in the British Cal Utilisatin Research Assciatin.During the war,she als served fr a perid as an Air Raid Warden.After the war,Franklin travelled t Paris t wrk where she learnt X­ray diffractin techniques (衍射技术).In 1951,Franklin returned t England.She used her knwledge f X­rays t imprve equipment at King's Cllege.This actually enabled her team t prduce very meaningful phts f DNA.When James Watsn,a scientist wrking n his wn DNA structure in Cambridge,saw these phts,he said,“My jaw (下巴) fell pen,and my heartbeat began t race.”
    In a 1953 editin f Nature,James Watsn and Francis Crick published a paper n the structure f DNA,which had been infrmed by Franklin's phts.In the same editin,Franklin published her data n DNA.Franklin was mre careful abut publishing a mre accurate (精确的) thery f DNA structure.She wished t see mre experimental evidence.Hwever,Watsn and Crick were mre cnfident and they annunced in Feb.1953 that they had fund the secret f life.Franklin's data and phts were very imprtant in their DNA thery.
    In 1953,Franklin left fr Birkbeck Cllege,where she fund a greater freedm.Hwever,increasing ill health caused her t retire frm wrk.Franklin died f cancer in 1958.
