    Unit 6  Birdwatching Task

    设计说明

    作为本单元的最后一个课时,学生已有较多的知识储备,可明确本课时任务。然后引导学生复习相关语句并考虑从哪些方面进行写作,帮助学生拓展思维,理清思路。从阅读文章、回答问题入手,引导学生总结出写文章的大体段落结构;再分段细读,帮助学生赏析写作范文的遣词造句和段落结构。最后通过修改例文,鼓励学生改善自己的写作方式。

    教学目标

    通过本课节的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握词汇:form, address, chairperson, introduce, natural

    2.能力目标

    (1)了解申请表的填写方法。

    (2) 学习申请信的写作。

    3.情感目标

    拓宽思路,勇于尝试,充分运用所学知识,不要拘泥于范文。

    重点难点

    重点:了解申请表的填写方法。

    难点:学习申请信的写作。

    教学过程

    Step1  Lead-in

    1. Show some pictures about birds and summary:They are beautiful and happy. But they are in danger.

    2. Ask the students one question:

    What can we do to protect these birds?

    Answers: (1)Plant more trees.

    (2)Make more reserves for the birds.

    (3)Never hunt birds for food or for fun.

    (4)Join the Birdwatching Society.

    Step 2  Warm-up

    Ask the students one question:

    How to join the Birdwatching Society?

    Answers: (1)Complete an application form.

             (2)Complete an application interview.

             (3)Complete an application letter.

    Step 3  Listening

    Listen, discuss then fill in Amy’s application form.

    Middle School. My favourite subject is Biology. I am very interested

    in learning about different kinds of plants, birds and animals. I enjoy the natural world.

    I would like to become a member of the Birdwatching Society and

    take part in activities. I want to know more about birds, and I think it is

    important for me to do something to protect them. I can

    take part in activities from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

    I will be very happy if I can become a member of the Birdwatching

    Step 5  Writing

    Ask the students to practise writing their own application letters.

    1. Ask the students to think what to write about our application letters to guess the structure of the article.

    Introduction The purpose of writing this letter.

    Structure:      Main body   School life and hobbies. ( Introduce oneself )

    The reasons to join the society.

    Conclusion  Her phone number and e-mail address.

    Contact ways.

    2. Ask the students to write the application letters with the following useful expressions.

    I am a student at ... and I am in Grade...

    My favourite subject(s) is/are...

    I am very interested in ...

    I would like to be a member of/join...

    I think it is important for me to...

    I can take part in activities from...to... on...

    I will be very happy if I can become a member of ...

    You can call me on... or email me at ...

    3. Ask the students to work in pairs— one reads the writing out aloud and the other team member listens carefully and tells what he/she has something wrong.

    4. Ask the students to make the sentences better.

    Two tips: use specific words; use sentences of different lengths.

    5. Invite the students to check the article for punctuation, capitalization, grammar errors and spellings.

    6. Ask the students to show the final copy.

    Two tips: use your best handwriting; indent the first line of each paragraph.

    Step 6  Language points

    1. be interested in 意为……感兴趣”,take an interest in 同义,其主语通常是人,后常接名词代词或动词-ing形式。

    I am very interested in drawing. 我对画画非常感兴

    2. introduce及物动词,意为介绍”, introduce sb. to sb.意为向某人介绍某人”, introduce oneself意为自我介绍

    【拓展】

    introduction 用作可数名词,意为介绍,引见

    Our speaker today needs no introduction.

    3. natural 形容词,意为自然的;天然的。其名词形式为nature,意为自然界;大自然
