    Unit 7  Seasons Integrated skills & Study skills

    设计说明

    首先通过一组图片来呈现本课时的生词,使学生了解不同季节的表示天气的词汇,在听力环节给出一些听力技巧的指导。Speak up以听力训练形式呈现,进而了解南京和北京的天气情况。通过一些图片呈现名词变形容词,使学生学习名词加-y构成形容词的方法,并通过一些词汇的练习来巩固所学知识。

    教学目标

    通过本课节的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标:

    掌握词汇:snowstorm, wind, around, rest, degree, bit, blow, loud, ring, sleepy, shine, sudden, cause, snowball, fight, turn more cloudy, in the thirties, the rest of, a bit, cover... with, make them look funny, make people sleepy, the sudden heavy rain, snowball fights

    2.能力目标:

    (1) 听录音,获取具体信息,并完成信息记录;

    (2) 学会谈论不同地方的天气;

    (3) 学习一些名词加上-y后缀来转换成形容词的方法;

    (4) 运用适当的形容词来描述天气或事物的特征。

    3.情感目标:

    了解中国和世界不同区域的天气情况的相关知识,并会用所学的知识来播报天气情况,培养学生的语言表达能力和对自然的热爱。

    重点难点

    重点:听录音,获取具体信息,并完成信息记录;学会谈论不同地方的天气。

    难点:学习一些名词加上-y后缀来转换成形容词的方法;运用适当的形容词来描述天气或事物的特征。

    教学过程

    Step 1  Lead-in

    Show some pictures and teach some new words.

    snowstormshower, blow, shine

    Step 2  Presentation  

    1. Ask students to look through the passage in Part A1 and write the possible season under each report.

    2. Check answers together.

    3. Ask students to find some key words about the weather. (adj. and n.).

    4. Brainstorm.

    It is / will be+ dry/sunny/warm/cloudy...

    Can you give us some more adjectives?

    There is/ will be + a few showers.

    Can you give us some more nouns?

    5. Find some phrases(短语) about the temperature.

    drop below zero, to -10, be around 9, during the day and 4 at night,

    temperatures in the thirties, around 18 or 19 degrees.

    6. Teach some expressions about temperature.

    Step 3  Speak up

    1. Listen to the tape and find the answer to the question.

    How is the weather in Nanjing? It’s a bit cold and dry.

    2. Read and fill in the form.

    Step 4  Listening

    1. Read the Part A2.

    Show a map of the world and circle four cities, Beijing, New York, London, and Sydney.

    2. Listen and complete the table. 

    Before listening, we can predict (预测) from the temperature. Focus on (注意) the weather and degrees while listening. Play the tape for students to write the answers. Then play it again and check the answers.

    3. Practice.

    B: It’s _________ (adj.) / There is _________ (n.).

    A:What’s the highest/lowest temperature in __________? / What’s the temperature in _________?

    Practice the dialogue in pairs using the information in Part A2.

    4. Listen and complete Part A3.

    Play the tape for students to write the answers. Then play it again and check the answers.

    Step 5  Production

    1. Show a video about the weather report and give some key words.

    Hello, everyone.   Here is the weather report for...

    There will be...     Don’t forget...

    That’s the weather report. Thank you for listening.

    2. To be a weather girl/boy.

    (1) Show four cities: Beijing, New York, London and Sydney and ask students to try to give a weather report. Give some tips if necessary.

    It’s sunny/ cloudy/ foggy/ rainy/ snowy/ windy...

    It’s (a bit/ mainly) cold/ hot/ cool/ warm/ dry/ wet...

    There will be a strong wind/ snowstorm/ a few showers/ heavy fog/ rain/ snow...

    with temperatures in the thirties

    with daytime temperatures around... degrees

    drop to, drop below, stay above    

    (2)Try to make a weather report. Give a map of China and circle Harbin, Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Hongkong. Ask students to give weather reports about the cities above. Four students of a group. Everyone takes turn (轮流) to speak. Choose the best group.

    Step 6  Lead-in

    1. Show some pictures and teach some words about weather.

    The _______ of the morning sun is bright. It’s a __________ morning.

    But the boy feels ___________. (shine, shiny, sleepy )

    2. Learn some new words.

    Show the new words on the screen. Read after the teacher. Give them some time to remember them as soon as possible.

    Step 7  Presentation

    1. Talk about the pictures in groups.

    A: What is the weather like today?
    B: It’s... today but it will be... later.

    2. Test your memories. Change these nouns into adjectives.

    3. Rules.

    We can add the suffix -y to some nouns to form adjectives. The suffix -y means “having the quality of ”.

    Step 8  Practice

    1. Fill in the blanks with proper words.

    It’s a _______ day. Look, the _______ is shining brightly. I feel a bit hot. (sun)

    The radio says it is going to  _______ later in the afternoon. I hate  _______ days.It’s wet everywhere, and I will have to take my umbrella. (rain)

    What’s the weather like tomorrow? It’s _______. Can’t you see the _______ in the sky? They look like sheep and cotton. (cloud)

    4. Have a talk.

    S1: What’s the weather like in spring?

    S2: It’s so windy. Many people have to cover their faces with scarves. It makes them look funny.

    S1: What’s the weather like in summer?

    S2: It’s usually very hot. People feel sleepy in the afternoon. Sometimes       it’s rainy. The sudden heavy rain causes many problems.

    S1: How’s the weather in autumn?

    S2: People are lucky to enjoy many sunny days. They like to travel around the city in such weather.

    S1: How’s the weather in winter?

    S2: It’s snowy. Most children like winter. They’re happy and noisy                   to have snowball fights. But sometimes it’s foggy. Heavy fog isn’t                   healthy for people.

    5. Talk about your favourite season in groups.

    A: What’s your favourite season?

    B: I like...

    A: Why?

    B: Because it’s... I can... How about you?

    A: I like... because...

    Step 9  Production

    1. Show a picture and say: Heavy fog can make people feel uncomfortable. If a person often stays in the fog, it’s easier for him or her to get sick.

    2. Discuss in groups.

    Please give people some advice on how to keep healthy and safe on foggy days.

    3. Give some advice.

    (1) Wear a mask to protect your nose and mouth.

    (2) If possible, don’t go out on foggy days, especially in the morning.

    (3) Have more fruit and water to keep healthy.

    (4) Take a bus, ride a bike or walk instead of driving a car.

    (5) Drive, walk and ride slowly on foggy days.

    (6) Reduce (减少) the smoke from some factories.

    Step 10  Homework

    1. Read the passage of Part A3 on page 88.

    2. Finish the weather report.

    3. Try to find more words which have the same suffix -y as we learn in this class.
