    Ⅰ. 阅读理解
One f the prblems damaging ur planet is the number f things we thrw away. Rubbish f all kinds is piling up in landfill and plluting ur rivers and ceans. A mre recent additin t the list f things we chuck away is e-waste—electrnic items that are brken and nt recycled. Nw slutins are being fund t give this stuff a new life.
Many millins f tnnes f televisins, phnes, and ther electrnic equipment are discarded each year, partly because it’s cheaper t replace them than fix them, but als because we lack the skills t repair them. A UN reprt claims the 50 millin tnnes f e-waste generated every year will mre than duble t 110 millin tnnes by 2050, making it the fastest grwing waste stream in the wrld.
Hwever, there’s a grwing trend fr repair events and clubs which culd be part f a slutin t the grwing amunt f electrical and electrnic junk. The BBC visited a Restart Prject in Lndn, which is ne f many funded arund the wrld. One f its vlunteers, Francesc Cal, said that “this prject allws yu t reduce waste, extend the life f bjects, and it helps peple wh cannt affrd t get rid f items that have develped a fault. ”
As many electrical items cntain valuable metals, anther idea is e-waste mining. An experiment at the University f New Suth Wales invlves extracting (提取) these materials frm electrnic gadgets. It’s thught that ding this culd be mre prfitable than traditinal mining. With phnes typically cntaining as many as 60 elements, this culd be part f the slutin t ur appetite fr new technlgy.
These prjects make ttal sense — cllectins f e-waste fr recycling are “stagnating (停滞不前) r even decreasing” accrding t Ruediger Kuehr, f the United Natins University. And in cuntries where there is n legislatin, much f it just gets dumped. Hwever, the Eurpean Unin, fr example, is trying t tackle the prblem by insisting manufacturers have t make appliances lnger-lasting and will have t supply spare parts fr machines fr up t 10 years.
( )1. Accrding t the passage, electrnic items are thrwn away because ________.
    A.they are ttally useless
    B.we have t recycle them
C.they will pllute ur rivers and ceans
D.it’s cheaper t replace them than fix them
( )2. What is leading t the rise in e-waste?
    A.Grwing trend fr repair events.
    B.E-waste generating cleaner energy.
C.Our being hungry fr new technlgy.
D.Mining valuable metals in electrical items.
    ( )3. What d we knw abut e-waste?
A.E-waste used t be the fastest grwing waste stream in the wrld.
B.Tremendus amunts f e-waste are thrwn away each year.
    C.We can’t find the slutin t the prblem f e-waste.
    D.Land-filling allws us t reduce e-waste.
( )4. Which is the best title fr the passage?
    A.Slving the Prblem f E-waste
B.Hw t Stp Damaging Our Planet
    C.Saying N t Thrwing Away Things
    D.Hw t Cllect E-waste fr Recycling
    【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了现在人们正在寻找办法解决日益严重的电子垃圾问题。
1.D 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“Many millins f tnnes f televisins, phnes, and ther electrnic equipment are discarded each year, partly because it’s cheaper t replace them than fix them. ”可知,每年有数百万吨电视、电话和其他电子设备被丢弃,部分原因是更换它们比修理它们便宜,还因为我们缺乏修理它们的技能。故选D项。
2.C 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“With phnes typically cntaining as many as 60 elements, this culd be part f the slutin t ur appetite fr new technlgy(手机通常含有多达60种金属元素,这可能是满足我们对新技术需求的解决方案的一部分).”可知,我们对新技术的渴求导致了电子垃圾的增加。故选C项。
3.B 细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“cllectins f e-waste fr recycling are ’stagnating (停滞不前) r even decreasing’ accrding t Ruediger Kuehr, f the United Natins University. And in cuntries where there is n legislatin, much f it just gets dumped(联合国大学的Ruediger Kuehr说,回收电子垃圾的工作停滞不前,甚至在倒退。在没有立法的国家,大部分电子垃圾都被丢弃了).”可知,每年都有大量的电子垃圾被扔掉了。故选B项。
4.A 主旨大意题。通读全文,特别是根据第一段中的“A mre recent additin t the list f things we chuck away is e-waste—electrnic items that are brken and nt recycled. Nw slutins are being fund t give this stuff a new life(最近,在我们扔掉的物品清单上又增加了一项,那就是电子垃圾,也就是那些坏了不能回收的电子产品,现在,人们正在寻找让这些东西重获新生的解决办法).”可知,短文的最佳标题为“解决电子垃圾问题”。故选A项。
    Ⅱ. 读后续写

    Rescue in a Bttle
Curtis Whitsn had rafted (乘筏) dwn the Arry Sec, a river in central Califrnia, several times befre.
This year, Curtis Whitsn knew the water-fall was cming. He figured he wuld get ut f his raft int the shallw water, get dwn the rcks alng rpes n either side f the falls, and cntinue n his way, as he had n a previus trip.
But this year was different. Heavy snw and spring rains had turned the usually manageable falls int smething fierce. And this year, instead f his friends, Whitsn’s cmpanins were his girlfriend, Krystal Ramirez, and his 13-year-ld sn, Hunter. As the three f them apprached the falls late in the afternn f the third day f their camping trip, Whitsn culd tell frm the increasing rar f water in the narrwing canyn(峡谷) that they were in serius truble. There was n way they’d be able t get dwn the rcks as planned.
“The water was just raring thrugh there with tremendus frce,” recalls Whitsn, 45.
They had n smart phne service, and they hadn’t seen a single persn in the past three days. And Whitsn knew that they’d be sharing the grund there with rattlesnakes and muntain lins.
As he was thinking what t d, Whitsn hit n a bit f luck—he heard vices cming frm the ther side f the falls. He yelled, but the sund f the rushing water drwned him ut.
“We have t get these peple a message,” Whitsn thught.
He grabbed a stick and pulled ut his pcketknife t carve “Help” in it. Then he tied a rpe t it s the peple wuld knw it wasn’t just any stick. He tried thrwing it ver the falls, but it flated away in the wrng directin.
“We’ve gt t d smething!” Whitsn yelled t his sn. “Have we gt anything else?”
Then he sptted his water bttle. Whitsn grabbed it and carved “Help!” n it. Ramirez als reminded him that he had a pen and paper in his backpack.
Whitsn knew it was a slim hpe. But he wrte “6-15 19:00 We are stuck here—the waterfall. Get help please” and pushed the nte int the bttle. This time, his thrw ver the waterfall was perfect.
“All right, that’s all we can d,” Whitsn tld Hunter.

As the evening wre n, they decided they prbably weren’t ging t get rescued that night, s they pulled ut their sleeping bags. Befre turning in, Ramirez added wd t the fire t keep the muntain lins away. Hwever, just after midnight, they heard a helicpter hvering abve them. Wild with jy, they waved and yelled like crazy. Unfrtunately, the darkness drwned everything. The helicpter circled and gt back. The first rescue was in vain.
The next mrning, the helicpter returned. _____________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    One pssible versin:
The next mrning, the helicpter returned. After the three were sptted, the helicpter lwered a crew member n a cable. The rescuers lifted them ut f the muntain. It was nt lng befre they were taken t safety. That was a mment f pure happiness as the three chatted with the rescue wrkers. Just at that time Whitsn learned that a hiker sptted the bttle with the message asking fr help. And it was exactly that bttle that saved them all! Tgether, they were amazed at the unlikelihd f it all.
