    “Where” refers t “the places” in sentence(a), “when” refers t “a time” in sentence(b)And “why” refers t “the main reasn” in sentence(c).
    2 What’s the difference between the tw grups f sentences?
    Cmpare them with the fllwing sentences and answer the questins.
    Because there is a clser link and cnnectin between the item and the clause defining it in sentences(a), (b)and(c). It will als make the passage clearer,and create an emphatic effect n the lcatin,time and reasn being defined.
    3 Why des the authr chse t use sentences(a),(b) and (c) in the reading passage?
    Sentences(a),(b)and(c)cntain a clause defining a nun r prnun in the sentence. Sentences(d), (e)and(f)are cnstructed with a pair f simple sentences,with ne defining a nun r prnun in the ther sentence in each pair.

    定语从句(2) ——关系副词的用法当引导定语从句的关系词在定语从句中作时间、地点、原因状语时,应使用关系副词when,where,why。关系副词的作用如下: (1) 代替表示时间、地点、原因的先行词; (2) 在从句中充当句子成分——状语; (3) 起连接作用,把主句和定语从句连接起来。
    1 关系副词引导的定语从句 (1)when 引导定语从句 when 表示时间,代替先行词并在定语从句中作时间状语,其先行词往往是表示时间的名词,如 time,day,week,year 等。 We dn’t knw the exact time when the English Evening will be held. 我们不知道英语晚会举行的确切时间。I’ll never frget the day when I first met yu. 我永远不会忘记第一次见到你的那一天。There are times when I wnder why I d this jb. 有时候我也不明白自己为什么要做这份工作。

    2 关系代词与关系副词的选用关系词的句法功能(在定语从句中所作成分)决定着使用关系代词还是关系副词。关系词在从句中作主语、宾语、表语、定语,使用关系代词;关系词在从句中作状语则使用关系副词。看下面三组句子: This is the muntain village (that/which) I visited last year. 这是我去年参观过的那个山村。(that/which 在从句中作visit 的宾语) This is the muntain village where I was brn. 这是我出生的那个山村。(where 在从句中作状语,I was brn in the muntain village.)
