There was the mment when my stepsn jined lcals as they washed their hands and faces at a well, t cleanse themselves befre burning incense (焚香) at a temple. Or the time when my stepdaughter chased deer in a park s she culd feed them. And the time when we walked thrugh a maze f (迷宫般的) market stalls (小摊) and laneways (巷道) t find what we thught was a simple ndle restaurant, nly t be greeted by a charming garden filled with lcals sharing a meal.Over ur dinner, we cnnected tgether ur experiences like ne big puzzle and we learned mre abut what it means t be in this family.As we walked away frm ur dinner, darkness fell. The stne lanterns (石灯笼) gradually came t life, and I whispered, fr the first time in a lng time, “Thank yu.”
