The theme f the sectin is “Describe festival activities”. All kinds f festival activities always give peple prfund impressin and varius feelings. S whether in ur ral cmmunicatin r writing, the descriptin is always cnnected with the emtins f the participants. And, ne f the ways expressing the emtins r feelings is the structure v-ing as the attribute r predicative, which is the cre grammar f this unit.
Cncretely, this unit mainly learns the usage f v-ing as the attribute r predicative, whse functins equals t the adjective. If the v-ing is used as the attribute and put in frnt f the nun, it is always called the pre-attribute; if put after the nun, it is always called the pst-attribute.

Step 3 The meaning f v-ing as the attribute
1. 如果是单个的动词-ing形式作定语, 常放在被修饰词前面作前置定语;
如果是动词-ing形式短语作定语, 常放在被修饰词后面作后置定语。
它通常用来修饰、限定、说明名词或代词的品质与特征

2.表示感情的动词-ing形式作定语时, 表示“令人……的”, 此类动词-ed形式作定语时, 表示“感到……的”。
3.动词-ing形式作定语如果与被修饰的词之间是被动关系, 且强调动作正在进行就用动词-ing形式的被动式, 即being dne的形式。

动词-ing形式作定语的两种作用
1. 用来说明被修饰的名词
a waiting rm = a rm fr waiting等候室
a walking stick = a stick fr walking拐杖
a sleeping car=a car fr sleeping卧铺
2. 指所修饰的名词正在进行的动作, 与被修饰词之间是主动关系, 可以换成定语从句的形式
a man waiting at the stp= a man wh is waiting at the stp在停车点等候的人
a sleeping child = a child wh is sleeping正在睡觉的孩子
