    Unit3  The Internet课时

    教学目标

    Language abilities: Enable the students focus on listening and thinking.

    Cultural awareness: Help the students get insight into online habits.

    Learning competence: Improve students’ sense of talking about preference.

    Thinking capacity: Inspire the students to develop healthy online habits.

    教学重点

    1. Master the usage of key words and phrases.

    2.Improve the students’ listening and speaking ability.

    教学难点

    1. Let students pay attention to the definition in listening materials.

    2.Make the students know about content words and function words.

    教学准备

    1. familiarize current topic games to raise students interests;
    2. preparation of some selective answers in case of non response.

    教学过程

    Step 1 Warm up

    Teacher greets the whole class as usual.

     

    Step 2Preview check

    Teacher asks students the meaning of words, phrases and knowledge points learnt last lesson.

     

    Step 3Saying

    Teacher shows the pictures to lead the topic.

     

    1. What do you usually do online?
    2. How can you use the Internet to learn English?
    3. Have you ever helped others to use the Internet? How?

    I usually spend time online playing games with my friends, watching funny videos, and reading about interesting facts about the world.

     

    There are many good websites for learning English online. You can listen to music and you can look up the words for songs, which is a good way to practise.

     

    I have helped my grandparents use the Internet. At first they didn't know how to use the Internet, but I explained how web browsers and websites worked and helped them find useful and interesting things online.

     

    Step 4New words

    Teacher explains the meaning of the new words, and asks students to translate the meaning of the whole sentence.

    Step 5 Let’s play

    Teacher choses students to answer the questions.

    Step6 Pair work

    Discuss the questions in groups.

     

    Look at the online activities in the box and match them with the pictures. Then tick the pictures of the activities that you like to do when you are online.

    Step 7 Listening practice

    Teacher shows the questions. Then teacher plays the listening material and asks students to answer.

     

    Sam is doing a survey on online habits. He is now talking to his schoolmates Anna, Paul, and Joe. Listen to the conversation and complete the table.

    Step 8 Listen for definitions

    When you hear a word you don't know, pay attention to the next sentence or two to see if there is a definition. Definitions often begin with words like "it's like", "that is", or "for example".

     

    Step 9Discussion

    Teacher shows the topic and gives students examples to discuss.

     

    Take turns to ask each other about your online habits.
     

    EXAMPLE

    A: How much time do you spend online every day?

    B: Oh, it's hard to say. Sometimes I'm too busy to go online. Sometimes I spend more than four hours online. How about you?

    A: It depends. I'd say from half an hour to three hours.

    B: What do you usually do online?

    A: I listen to music, stream videos, or look up information. And you?

    B: Lots of things. I especially like to chat with my friends and family. By the way, what's your favourite app?

    A:  Well, …

     

    Step 10Pronunciation

    Most sentences have two basic types of words: content words and function words. Content words are usually stressed. Read the sentence and notice which words are stressed.

     

    EXAMPLE

    The Internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow.

     

    Read the poem about online safety and mark the words that should be stressed.

     

    Cyber Sense

    I always keep things secret when I go online.

    I never share the things that should be only mine.

    My email and my home address, my phone number and name—These are things only I should know on websites or in games.

    And so I use a nonsense name for my net identity. When folks online ask who I am, I say, "I'm Cyber Me." And if I ever think that someone online isn't all that bad, I never ever meet them without telling Mum or Dad.

     

    Listen to the poem and see if you got the stressed words right.

     

    Step 11Function & Content Words

    Content words are words with specific meanings, such as nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and main verbs (those without helping verbs.)

     

    Function words include determiners, conjunctions, prepositions, pronouns, auxiliary verbs, modals, qualifiers, and question words.
