I discovered my love for writing while working on my undergraduate degree in English. I fell in love with children's literature and knew that was what I wanted to do with my life: write for children. So I wanted to learn how to write. But life kept me busy, and my dream stopped.
Two decades later, I wanted to sign up for a university's writing program for adults to accept the education of writing. 1 hoped to greatly improve my writing skills and then start my writing journey. So I applied to a university for such a writing program.
But after several days of taking the courses, I found the learning tasks were too heavy in light of my busy family life, so I dropped out of the program.
Over the next few years, I applied to several universities’ writing programs again. However, still due to the busy family life, I gave up after only a few days of taking the courses. And I knew I would never apply to a school again. I had closed that door.
Two years ago, my husband got a new job, requiring us to move from our home in Texas to Washington, D．C．it wasn't an easy move. The family part was the problem. No one would be moving with us. All our children had grown up. So when we sat down for dinner in our new home-the big, empty and quiet house, only my husband and me, I didn't know how to deal with the quiet life.
One morning, I woke up from a dream. In my dream, I had contacted the last university's writing department, asked to rejoin their writing program for adults, and was allowed. The dream had shaken me. So, before I got out of bed or changed my mind, I picked up my phone and sent an e-mail asking what I would need to do to reapply.

It didn't take long before the luck ice cream had lost its magic. Mike started to slip to second place and then third place in his races. His scores kept worsening and Mike felt really bad. He knew what was wrong. But he couldn't admit it to himself and especially to his parents. He did not want to disappoint them.
One day, his mother sat down at the table with him and said, “Mike, we know you love ice cream，but maybe it's not healthy for your body to eat so much of it. Your father and 1 think it is making you gain weight. Is it OK for us to quit the sweet treats for a while, especially before you go for the final competition? In order to strengthen your muscles, your father will go running with you three days a week. We think it will help you feel better.”

Jim left the boys and started going down the mountain with a flashlight. Though tired, hungry and cold, he still didn't give up because of worrying about his friend. But things got even worse when his flashlight suddenly stopped working,
Jim almost became desperate. Out of despair, he started calling his friend’s name. To his joy, finally, he got a weak response. Mike was just nearby.
Jim felt his way in the darkness and walked toward his friend. Luckily the moon got out of the cloud and Jim could finally see again. He found his friend who had been trapped in a hole for hours. Jim managed to pull Mike up from the hole, and Mike was finally safe. However, Jim was so tired that he fell and rolled down a slope and lost consciousness.

He informed us that at most audition all dancers under 5 feet 6 inches are automatically eliminated or simply overlooked. He said that most casting directors were looking for the stereotyped dancer with long legs, a long neck and a size one waist. Standing half a foot under this height, I felt my heart drop to the floor.
It is really hard to listen to someone basically telling you, “Sorry, but you’ve been working really hard for sixteen years for nothing, so find a new dream.” Unfortunately, it just doesn’t work that way. Dancing isn’t just a hobby for me; it’s more like an addiction. I exhibit every step heart and soul. Through dance I find a sense of pride and satisfaction that I don’t think anyone could understand or appreciate. To have all that I’ve ever wanted instantly shot down created a sick feeling in my stomach.

As a result, our weekends were filled with simple pleasures that we could do for free, like picnics, bike rides, and my favorite—trips to the library.
Thanks to the library’s children’s section, I fell in love with stories—silly ones, moving ones, and even educational ones. I would have my parents read the books that we borrowed over and over again until we needed to return them, or I would page through them myself, imagining the stories in my head, even though I was too young to read the words.
When I was about five years old and finally started to read on my own, I had a curious thought: I knew we could get books from the library or buy them in store s if we had the money, but where did books come from?
