Teaching Aims 1.Know about the train history. 2.What will the future train be like? Important Points The invention of the steam engine, the first train engine, railways and the first passenger. Difficult Points Who invented the inventions and when did they invent them. Teaching Preparation Pictures. Teaching Aids Multimedia, flashcards, pictures. Type of lesson New lesson. Teaching Procedure Ⅰ.Come to “THINK ABOUT IT.” Let the students talk in groups about the question: How do you usually travel to some other places? Talk about your first time taking a train. After discussing for a while, the students make a report to the class. Ⅱ.Let the students read the text then answer how is the text arranged. Ⅲ.Listen to the material. After repeating the text for several times, ask them to retell the story in their own words. Ⅳ.Let the students talk more about the trains. They may talk about their experience on trains. They also may talk about the structure of the trains, the use of the trains and the future of them. Ⅴ.Language points studying. Show the following points: 1.In the 1700s, many scientists worked on stream engines.在十八世纪初,许多科学家从事蒸汽机的研究. (1)年代表达法:in the + 数词的复数形式.如: in the 1970s或1970's表示20世纪70年代, in the 1860s 表示19世纪60年代. (2)work on sth.从事于…如: Doctor Wang works on a new English-Chinese dictionary.王博士从事一本新英汉词典的编写. 2.In the 1760s, a scientist in England found a way to put stream engines and wheels together. 在十八世纪六十年代,一位英国的科学家发现了一种把蒸汽机与轮子放在一起的方法. 动词不定式(to do)的用法:动词不定式作宾语补足语,常接带to的不定式作宾语补足语的动词有: want, ask, tell, teach, like, wish, allow, invite等,构成want/ask sb. to do sth.句型表示“想要/让某人作某事”如: Our teacher asks us to come to school on time.我们的老师让我们按时到校. 3.In 1804, the first train engine was born in England.在1804年,第一辆蒸汽火车诞生于英国. 4.be born意为“出生”,born是bear的过去分词.如: He was born in Shanghai.他出生在上海. 拓展: born还有“天生的”意思.born rich 天生富贵, a born poet天才诗人. 5.During the 1830s, countries all over the world started to build railways. 在十九世纪三十年代期间,世界各国开始建造铁路. all over the world = around the world世界各地. all over 意为“全身, 全部,遍及”如:He has a fever and aches all over.他发烧,浑身疼痛. 动词不定式(to do)的用法:动词不定式作宾语, 常接动词不定式作宾语的动词有: afford, agree, begin, decide, expect, fail, forget, happen, help, hope, learn, plan, prepare, pretend, want, start, wish, remember等. 如: I wanted to invite you to my party.我想要邀请你参加我的聚会. She forgot to close the windows when she went out.当她出去的时候,她忘了关窗户. 6.People built many train stations to help passengers get on and off the trains easily.为了帮助乘客们容易地上下火车,人们建造了许多火车站. 动词不定式(to do)的用法:动词不定式作状语,动词不定式在不及物动词后作为目的状语的情况最多,可位于句首或句尾. 如: To finish his work, he hasn't rested for a month.为了完成他的工作,他一个月都没休息了. They raised money and clothes to help the homeless people.为了帮助无家可归的人,他们捐了钱和衣服. Ⅵ.Have a Discussion. Make a table. Make a survey about the advantages and the disadvantages of the trains, the cars, the bus, the bicycles and the planes. Ⅶ.Homework. 1.Finish off the activity book. 2.Go on the next reading in the student book. Summary: The students know little about the train history. The teacher should arrange much information about it. Show them more pictures and let them know more. Encourage them to imagine the future transportation.
