This morning, I felt anxious and frightened because I am not outgoing and I'm junior to my my new classmates from different nations. I look forward to making a good first impression on them, but what if some guys annoys me or make me awkward? What if they don’t enjoy my company and leave me alone at last? 

今早时，我觉得焦虑害怕，因为我不大外向， 又比来自不同国家的新同学们年龄小。我期待给他们留下良好的第一印象，但要是一些家伙惹恼了我或让我尴尬该怎么办？要是他们不愿和我作伴最终不理我怎么办？

At 10 a.m. , I found the registration office after exploring the newly-built campus designed by senior designers. I filled in a formal student profile table, including sex (male or female), nationality, personality and learning styles. Then I registered for the same courses as I did in China, like maths, physics and chemistry.

探索了新建的由高级设计师设计的校园后，我于上午10点找到了注册中心。我填写了一份正式的学生档案表，包含性别（男或女），国籍，性格和学习方式。然后我注册了跟在中国时一样的课程，比如数学，物理和化学。

At 3 p.m. , I attended a lecture organized by an organisation called “Improve Learning Strategies”. We’re advised to set learning goals, take notes while concentrating on listening, exchange thoughts with partners, be curious about all experiments, and revise through mind maps and flash cards.

What a day! I didn’t feel awkward or annoyed at all. Now I have much more confidence than I did this morning. I’m confident that I’ll do well and my dream will come true.

Unit1 新生挑战

As a freshman at senior high school, finding solutions to teenage problems and being responsible for myself isn’t a small plate of dish. The first week made me confused with confusing choices.

First, I had to register for suitable courses. After skimming the titles and topic sentences on posters, I predicted course content in advance but wondered which one I should choose: psychology, biology or advanced literature? My adviser recommended that I should sign up for photography and calligraphy because I aim to become an editor when I graduate and I’m already fluent in English.

I had to choose extra-curricular activities, too. I’m not sure if I prefer practicing dancing movements in a ballet club to learning survival skills from experts in the youth adventure camp, so I tried out for the debate team. At last, I quit making the team which is obviously unsuitable for me and joined a volunteer club instead. At the weekends, we help clean up a soup kitchen called  “Greenhouse”.

Actually, focusing on studies after being attracted to extra-curricular activities is also a challenge, and it is not unusual for teenagers of my generation to be addicted to the Internet, so I have to take responsibility for my own behaviour like adults and make a workable schedule.

说实话，在被课外活动吸引后，专注于学习也是一项挑战。并且我们这代青少年往往对因特网上瘾。因此我必须像成年人那样为自己的行为负责并制定可行的日程表。

Unit3 运动与健康

As a TV hostess facing millions of audiences, I used to keep slim and graceful by dieting even though/if it injures fitness. I got used to competing for honour and glory and cheating myself by pretending not to care errors and failures. It was not until I fell apart for stress that I realized this didn’t make any sense.

Then I could add low-fat foods to my meals rather than cutting out all foods with fat.

Once I began sweating my way to fitness, I stopped comparing myself with/to actresses and models. Instead, athletes called masters or legends in sports set better examples for me. For example, Michael Jordan, an injured captain who led his team to medals and champions at championships with determination, has been inspiring me not to lose heart or give up.

Unit4 自然灾害

In the context of global warming, natural disasters, such as typhoons, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, droughts, landslides and volcanic eruptions, often strike out of nowhere, causing deaths, injuries and damage. When a volcano erupted, it seemed as if the world were coming to an end. But in my opinion, earthquakes and tsunamis have the most destructive effect.

在全球变暖的背景下，台风，飓风，龙卷风，洪水，干旱，泥石流，火山喷发等自然灾害经常突然袭来，造成（人员）伤亡和（财产）损失。当火山喷发时，似乎就像到了世界末日。但在我看来，地震和海啸最具破坏性影响。

On May 12th, 2008, an 8.0-magnitude earthquake struck Wenchuan County and turned 90 percent of quake-stricken area into ruins. Many were buried under bricks. Those who survived the quake were in shock and suffered a lot. With roads covered by cracks, the rescue team used helicopters to evacuate survivors and deliver supplies.

在2008年5月12日，一场8级地震袭击了汶川县，把震区的百分之九十化为了废墟。很多人被埋在了砖块之下。那些幸存下来的人也惊魂未定，深受其害。由于道路布满裂缝，救援队只能用直升飞机来疏散幸存者，运送物资。

2004 saw the deadly Indonesia tsunami. Huge waves crashed into coastlines and swept away everything. All cities lay in ruins and victims had to put/set up shelters in the open air. Pipes and power lines were damaged or destroyed, affecting the supply of water, electricity and gas. At length, the number of deaths stood at 290,000.

In the event of a disaster, governments should supply emergency supplies like first aid kits, aiding the disaster-hit areas to breathe again and revive. In times of being trapped, the public should stay calm, tapping on a metal pipe on hand or whistling for help. In summary, we must unify efforts and wisdom to get survival and revival.  

万一发生灾害，政府应该提供像急救包这样的紧急物资，帮助灾区缓过气来并恢复生机。在被困时，公众应该保持冷静，（同时）拍打手边的金属管道，或吹哨子来求助。总之，我们必须统一我们的努力和智慧，以获得幸存和复苏。

Tears welling up in his eyes, an eyewitness of Wenchuan Earthquake said. “That day of terror often slid into my dreams. Never before in history has a city been so completely ruined. Everywhere you looked, there was nothing but ruins”. Referring to the rescue work, he cracked a smile. “Somehow this worst disaster brought out the best in the survivors. Out of gratitude, they volunteered to help carry out first aid in a wish to save more people who suffered from terrible injuries.”

Unit5 双语时代

As China plays an increasingly great role in global affairs, an increasing number of international students are changing attitudestowards learning Chinese. For me, majoring in Chinese is a strugglefull of ups and downs. However, the more I learn it, the more regardI have for its writing system.

随着中国在全球事务中扮演日益重要的角色，越来越多的留学生改变了对于学汉语的态度。对我来说，主修汉语是一场充满起起落落的挣扎。然而，我学的越多，我对其书写系统的敬意就越多。

Dating back to thousands of years ago, Chinese writing was based on carving symbols onto bonesand shells. During the Han Dynasty (202 BCE-220 CE), it developed into a form of art which is referred to as ChineseCalligraphy. Today, it’s believed that this classic art form which is related to describing specific meanings is a meansof showing writers’ character. I appreciate it and couldn’t help but beg someone senior to me for works.

追溯到数千年前，汉字书写以在动物骨头和壳上雕刻符号为基础。在汉代（公元前202年-公元220年），汉字书写发展成为了一种被称为中国书法的艺术形式。如今，这种与描述特定意义有关的经典艺术形式，被大家公认为一种体现书写者性格的方式。我非常欣赏这种艺术并忍不住跟比我年长的人讨要作品。

Despite varieties of dialects,billions of Chinese people can communicate in unified Chinesecharacters no matter where they live. In comparison, some vocabulary factors create gap between countries that regard English as nativelanguage. For example, the American English words “subway” “semester” “gas” “apartment” and “pants” are “underground” “term” “petrol” “flat” and “trousers” in British English.

尽管有各种方言，数十亿中国人不管住在哪里都能用统一的汉字来交流。与之相比，一些词汇要素却在把英语当作母语的国家之间创造了隔阂。例如，美式英语中“subway(地铁)” “semester(学期)” “gas(汽油)” “apartment(公寓)” and “pants(裤子)”这几个词，在英式英语中分别是“underground” “term” “petrol” “flat” 和“trousers”。

As UN’s major official languages, Chinese and English are equals. Whatever your mother tongue is, the modern era is a time when you’re demanded to master both. I beg your pardon for some unclear description in this forum post and my point of view is for reference only.
