    Why go to Madrid
There may be a slight chill (寒冷) in the air, with temperatures staying around 15℃ in March, but Spain’s handsome capital is slowly starting to warm up. Even more attractive are the cultural events.
A new exhibition on the living and working spaces of Spain’s greatest artist, Picasso, has just opened in the studio at the Fundacion Mapfre at Paseo de Recoletos 23. It runs until 11 May with rarely seen pieces borrowed from his family.
Later this summer, the 400th anniversary of the death of the Renaissance(文艺复兴) painter El Greco will be marked with an exciting exhibition at the Museo del Prado at Paseo del Prado from 24 June to 5 October.
    How to go?
The widest range of flights is offered by EasyJet—from Bristol, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Liverpool and Luton. British Airways and its sister airline Iberia combine forces from Heathrow and London City. Ryanair flies from Manchester and Stansted. Air Europa flies from Gatwick.
Barajas airport is 13km north-east of the city centre and is served by frequent trains on Metro line 8, but the shortest underground journey is a bit complex with at least one change at Nuevos Ministerios station and takes about 30 minutes. The fare to any station in the city centre is £4.50. The airport express bus runs every 15 to 35 minutes around the clock: £5 one way. It takes 40 minutes to reach the city centre. A taxi takes half the time. A flat rate of£30 covers most of central Madrid.
( )1.When will the exhibition about Picasso close?
    A.On 23 March. B.On 11 May.
    C.On 24 June. D.On 5 October.

Benjamin West, the father of American painting, showed his talent for art when he was only six years of age. But he did not know about brushes before a visitor told him he needed one. In those days, a brush was made from the camel’s hair. There were no camels nearby. Benjamin decided that cat hair would work instead. He cut some fur from the family cat to make a brush.
The brush did not last long. Soon Benjamin needed more fur. Before long, the cat began to look ragged(蓬乱). His father said that the cat must be sick. Benjamin was forced to admit what he had been doing.
The cat’s lot was about to improve. That year, one of Benjamin’s cousins, Mr Pennington, came to visit. He was impressed with Benjamin’s drawings. When he went home, he sent Benjamin a box of paints and some brushes. He also sent six engravings(版画) by an artist. These were the first pictures and first real paints and brushes Benjamin had ever seen. In 1747, when Benjamin was nine years old, Mr Pennington returned for another visit. He was amazed at what Benjamin had done with his gift. He asked Benjamin’s parents if he might take the boy to Philadelphia for a visit.
In the city, Mr Pennington gave Benjamin materials for creating oil paintings. The boy began a landscape(风景) painting. William Williams, a well-known painter, came to see him work. Williams was impressed with Benjamin and gave him two classic books on painting to take home. The books were long and dull. Benjamin could read only a little, having been a poor student. But he later said, “Those two books were my companions by day, and under my pillow at night.” While it is likely that he understood very little of the books, they were his introduction to classical paintings. The nine-year-old boy decided then that he would be an artist.
( )4. What is the text mainly about?
    A. Benjamin’s visit to Philadelphia.

( )6. What did Mr Pennington do to help Benjamin develop his talent?

There was great excitement on the planet of Venus this week. For the first time Venusian scientists managed to land a satellite on the planet Earth, and it has been sending back signals as well as photographs. The satellite was directed into an area known as Manhattan. Because of excellent weather conditions and extremely strong signals, Venusian scientists were able to get valuable information about the feasibility of a manned flying saucer landing on Earth. A press conference was held at the Venus Institute of Technology. “We have come to the conclusion, based on last weeks’ satellite landing,”Prof. Zog said, “that there is no life on Earth.”
“How do you know this?”the science reporter of the Venus Evening News asked. “For one thing, Earth’s surface in the area of Manhattan is composed of solid concrete and nothing can grow there. For another, the atmosphere is filled with carbon monoxide(一氧化碳) and other deadly gases and nobody could possibly breathe this air and survive.” “Are there any other sources of danger that you have discovered in your studies?”
“Take a look at this photo. You see this dark black cloud staying over the surface of Earth? We don’t know what it is made of, but it could give us a lot of trouble and we shall have to make further tests before we send a Venus being there.”
“Over here you will notice what seems to be a river, but the satellite findings indicate it is polluted and the water is unfit to drink.”
“Sir, what are all those tiny black spots on the photographs?”
“We’re not certain. They seem to be metal particles that move along certain paths. They give out gases, make noise and keep crashing into each other.”
“Prof. Zog, why are we spending billions and billions of zilches to land a flying saucer on Earth when there is no life there?”
“Because if we Venusians can learn to breathe in the Earth atmosphere, then we can live anywhere.”
( )8.What does the underlined word “feasibility” in Paragraph 1 mean?
    A.Possibility. B.Flexibility.
    C.Simplicity. D.Responsibility.
( )9.What tone did the author use when writing the text?

D.To remind people on the Earth of some crises.

Walmart will soon use 360 robot cleaners across a few hundred of its stores. Using maps input by human employees, the AI-powered cleaners will travel in the store with no difficulty, sweeping the floor—just as human employees used to do.
Perhaps the most striking thing about these robot workers is how not-striking they are. Sci-fi movies suggest a future full of human-like robots who appear with their horrible qualities. Now the future is coming into view, and it looks like a giant lie. It’s easy to imagine walking past an Auto-C on a shopping trip without even noticing its presence.
AI has already started to become a part of our everyday life. In New Jersey this week, dozens of workers were hospitalized after a robot at an Amazon fulfilment centre accidentally broke a can and enveloped workers in eye- and lung-damaging gas. Days earlier in California, an auto-piloted Tesla drove a drunk, sleeping driver down a highway, which no doubt did some potential risk to the other drivers on the road. Highway patrol officers figured out on the spot how to stop the AI car.
Of course, industrial accidents and drunk drivers existed well before AI. Tools with the power to release the burden of physical labour—horses, steam machines, self-driving cars—also come with the power to injure. And the presence of AI-powered machines just steps away from us is, for now, still a rare thing for most people.
But the nature of robots’ coming into our daily lives will make it harder to recognize—or object to—the bigger changes they bring later. Walmart insists that the robot cleaners give employees more time for customer service and other tasks. Critics point out that they could just as easily become an excuse to reduce staff and wages.
( )12.What is the difference between sci-fi movies and the reality?
A.Now the human-like robots are easy to recognize.
B.Now people don’t go to see the sci-fi movies.
C.Now the human-like robots can tell lies.
D.Now it is easy to ignore the robots.

( )13.Why were some workers in hospital in New Jersey?
    A.They damaged the robot first.
B.The robot caused an accident on purpose.
C.The robot made a mistake by chance.
D.The robot driving them on the highway had an accident.
( )14.What is the attitude of the author to AI?
    A.Supportive. B.Objective.
    C.Doubtful. D.Indifferent.
( )15.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Artificial intelligence is bringing great effect to our daily life.
B.Walmart will soon use 360 robot cleaners across its stores.
C.We should say no to artificial intelligence.
D.Artificial intelligence is dangerous to our life.

I woke up earlier than my brother as every other day of the week. I jumped out of the bed, got dressed, brushed my teeth, and had breakfast. Saying goodbye to my mother, I got in the car no later than 7:05. I got to school on time, even though my brother came out of the house late as he used to.
It was a Thursday. I was walking to the chemistry rooms when my phone in my left pocket vibrated(震动). I took it out and looked at the shiny screen. As soon as I saw my father’s name on that screen I realized something was not right.
He would not call me in the middle of a school day just to talk. He would want me to focus in school and do well. I answered the phone, and my father sounded worried. He told me to find my brother as soon as possible, walk with him to the school picking-up zone and get in the car with my brother. Our driver would take us back home where my father was.
When I was in the car with my brother, my dad called the driver and told him to take us to the hospital. We were going to meet him and my mum there. As soon as my brother and I found about the change in plans, we looked at each other in the eyes. I immediately noticed the fear in my brother’s eyes.
To be honest, I was really scared too, probably more than he was. But I did not say anything. We arrived at the hospital. I saw my dad on the phone waiting for us at the entrance. He was smoking. Seeing my dad smoking made me more worried. I had never seen him smoke before. He hated it. As soon as he recognized the white car, he threw the cigarette away. I looked at my brother; he was looking out of the other window. I did not tell him what I just saw. I did not want him to worry.
    Paragraph 1:
The car stopped right in front of my dad.

    Paragraph 2:
We walked down the hall with our eyes closed.

by boat乘船。故填by。
    42.that 考查连词。此处为强调句,其结构为it is+被强调部分+that…。故填that。
    One possible version:
    Dear Jeff,
How time flies! I’ve already returned to China safe and sound. Looking back to the wonderful time I spent in America, I just can’t help thinking of you. I’m writing to express my sincere gratitude to you. It was so kind of you to have provided everything to make my stay such a happy and wonderful experience.
I will cherish the merry memories for the rest of my life and I do hope you and your family will accept my invitation to visit my motherland, whose spectacular scenery and vigorous culture will surely keep you spellbound.
Thanks again and looking forward to your reply.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
    第二节
    One possible version:
The car stopped right in front of my dad. He opened the door and I jumped out of the car and hugged him. He noticed that I was worried right away. With a smile on his face, he told us he had a surprise for us. What good things happened in hospital? When we approached the ward, my dad told my brother and me to close our eyes and hold his hands. So we did. His warm hands made us feel more secure.
We walked down the hall with our eyes closed. Suddenly we stopped. When we walked into the room, Dad told us to open our eyes. We saw our mother lying on the bed. Tears welled up in my eyes, but I was not in pain. Right next to my mother was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. It was a girl. She was sleeping. She was my sister. I still remember that day as one of the happiest days of my life.
