    教学目标:

    At the end of the class, the students will be able to:

    1. remember the new words: custom, bow, kiss, greet, be supposed to...

    2. learn about Western countries customs.

    3. learn to talk about what you are supposed to do.

    custom, bow, kiss, greet...

    be supposed to, to ones surprise, shake hands,be expected to...

    2. Key sentences:

    a. What are people in Korea supposed to do when they meet for the first time?

    b. As soon as I held out my hand, he bowed.

    c. Thats how people in Japan are expected to greet each other.     

    3. Structure:

    be supposed to/be expected to do...

    Use the structure “be supposed to do sth./be expected to do sth.” to make suggestions.

    Work on 1a.

    What do people do when they meet for the first time? Match the countries with the customs.

    1.Look at the picture in 1a and talk with Ss about the background knowledge.

    A: Where is he/she from?

    B: He/She is from(Brazil/the United States/Japan...)

    A:What are people supposed to do when they meet for the first time?

    B: They’re supposed to bow/shake hands...

    2. Read the words and the sentences in the picture and then match the countries and the customs in 1a.

    3. Call some Ss to read their answers.

    通过观察图片谈论不同国家不同的打招呼方式,引导学生运用目标语言be supposed to/be expected to对不同国家的习俗进行问答。

    Work on 1b.

    1. Play the tape of 1b for Ss to listen and check the answer in 1a.

    2. Listen again and fill in the blanks.

    3. Ask Ss to read the sentences.

    B: Theyre supposed to bow. How about in the United States?

    3. Ask several pairs to present in class.

    Play the tape for the first time for Ss to listen and check Maria's mistakes.Check answers in class.

    2. Work on 2b.

    Play the tape again for Ss to listen and fill in the blanks in 2b.Focus on more details.

    Check the answers with the whole class.Read the full sentences.

    3. Work on 2c.

    Ask Ss to work in pairs and role-play a conversation between Maria and Dan. Use the information in 2a and 2b.

    A: How was the dinner at Pauls house last night?

    B: Well, it was OK, but I made some mistakes. I was supposed to arrive at 7:00, but...

    Ask several pairs to present in class.
