    Unit 10 A birthday party (Stage 1)

    Reading: Preparing for Ben’s birthday party

    设计说明

    首先针对过生日提出几个问题,引起学生的兴趣,并由此导入新课。呈现生词、短语,减轻后面的学习负担。接着让学生带着问题听本课对话,让学生学会在听录音时抓关键信息。然后让学生听并跟读,进行口语训练。在问答环节,让学生自行补全对话,并选择接受邀请和拒绝邀请两种情景来组织对话,给学生充分操练对话的机会。同时给出在生日聚会上可以举行的活动的相关词汇,帮学生掌握本课重要句式和表达的用法。再给出一幅与本课内容相关的海报,让学生通过阅读海报内容,抓取关键信息,完成对应的习题,提升阅读理解能力。并让学生针对海报内容写出回信,增强语言实际运用能力。通过知识点的讲解,让学生扎实掌握英语知识。最后,通过当堂达标题来让学生巩固所学知识。

     

    教学目标

    通过本课节的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握本课节新词汇:sound, forward, look forward to, pity

    掌握be going to表示将来的用法。

    2.能力目标

    能够读懂有关邀约的对话,能谈论如何邀请他人并能就是否赴约写一封回信。

    3.情感目标

    增强与人沟通交流的能力。增强组织协调的能力。

    重点难点

    重点学习本课节新词汇及重要表达

    难点能读懂有关邀约的对话,学会邀请他人以及礼貌地接受或拒绝别人的邀请。

    教学过程

    Step 1 Warming up

    1. Ask the students the following questions:

    Do you usually have a birthday party?

    What do you usually do at the party?

    2. Let them list the things they do on the board.

     

    Step 2 Presentation

    Present new words and expressions: sound, look forward to, pity.

              

    sound n. 声音sound v. 听起来好像    look forward to期待着

         

    Its a pity.很遗憾。 pity n. 遗憾    karaoke n. 卡拉OK

    chess n. 国际象棋

     

    Step 3 Listen and read

    Activity 1

    1. Play the recording of the first dialogue on page 75 for the students to listen to and ask them to answer true/false.

    (1) Kitty made a phone call to Peter.

    (2) Kitty wanted to invite Peter to her birthday party.

    (3) Peter will be free on Sunday.

    (4) They are going to have the party at three oclock in the afternoon.

    (5) They are going to have a barbecue in the afternoon.

    (6) They will have the party at Kittys flat.

    2. Check the answers.

    3. Play the recording of the first dialogue for the students to listen to and repeat.

    4. Read the dialogue in pairs. Some pairs will read in front of the class.

    Activity 2

    1. Play the recording of the second dialogue on page 75 for the students to listen to and ask them to answer true/false.

    (1) Jill made a phone call to Kitty.

    (2) Jill will go to Bens birthday party.

    (3) Jill will arrive late at the party.

    (4) Jill wanted Kitty to say Happy Birthday to Ben for her.

    (5) Jill wish they have a great party.

    2. Check the answers.

    3. Play the recording of the second dialogue for the students to listen to and repeat.

    4. Read the dialogue in pairs. Some pairs will read in front of the class.

     

    Step 4 Ask and answer

    Use the phone to invite a classmate to your friend’s birthday party.

    1. Let the students read and complete the dialogue of Ask and answer. Show them some activities at the birthday party to help them.

    play computer games

    sing karaoke

    have a barbecue

    play chess

    watch cartoons

    Sample dialogue 1:

    S1: Hello. This is ______. May I speak to ______, please?

    S2: Hello, ______. This is ______ speaking.

    S1: It’s ______’s birthday on _______ (day). I’m planning a party. Are you free on _______ (day) at _______ (time) in the morning/afternoon/evening?

    S2: I’m sorry. I’ve got something to do on _______ (day).

    S1: Oh, what a pity!

    S2: Have a great party.

    S1: Thank you. Bye.

    S2: Bye.

    Sample dialogue 2:

    S1: Hello. This is ______. May I speak to ______, please?

    S2: Hello, ______. This is ______ speaking.

    S1: It’s ______’s birthday on _______ (day). I’m planning a party. Are you free on _______ (day) at _______ (time) in the morning/afternoon/evening?

    S2: Yes, I am. What are we going to do at the party?

    S1: We’re going to ...

    S2: It sounds great! I’m looking forward to it.

    2. Let the students make dialogue in pairs.

    3. Select pairs to say a dialogue accepting the invitation. Select pairs to say the dialogue declining the invitation.

     

    Step 5 Read and write

    1. Ask the students to look at the following poster and complete the sentences according to it.

    My name is Lucy.

    It is my birthday on Sunday, 5 May.

    I will be fourteen years old.

    I’m having a dress up party at my house at three p.m.

    Can you come?

    I will dress like a superman.

    (1) The party is for ___________________.

    (2) He is having a ___________________.

    (3) It will be on ___________________.

    (4) It will start at ___________________.

    2. Let the students give their answers.

    3. Check the answers.

    Answers: (1) Lucy (2) dress up party (3) Sunday, 5 May (4) three p.m.

    4. Let the students write back to Lucy and let her know that the invitation is accepted.

    5. Choose some students to show their writings and correct the mistakes.

     

    Step 6 Language points

    1. May I speak to Peter, please? 请让彼得听电话好吗?

    May/Can/Could I speak to...please? 请让……听电话好吗?

    打电话时要找某人接电话的常用语。回答时常用Certainly/Sure/Of course.,

    意为当然可以也常用 Hold on, please./A moment, please. /Wait a minute, please.表示请稍等

    May/Could I speak to Lingling, please?

    请让玲玲听电话好吗?

    Hold on, please.请稍等

    2. This is Peter speaking.我是彼得。

    This is...(speaking.)我是……

    打电话时介绍自己的用语注意不能用I am...

    Hello, this is Tom speaking. Can I speak to May?

    你好我是汤姆。我可以和通话吗?

    Yes, this is May speaking.可以我是

    【拓展】打电话询问对方是谁Who’s that?/Who’s speaking, please? (请问你是哪位?)Is that...(speaking)? (你是……?)

    3. It sounds great! 这听起来很棒!

    sound 连系动词听起来

    后面常跟形容词作表语。

    The idea sounds great.个主意听起来非常

    The story sounds interesting.这个故事听起来很有趣

    【拓展】类似用法的还有look, taste, smell

    He looked a bit naughty.看起来有点儿淘气

    名词声音响声

    Do you hear the sound of a plane?你听到飞机的声音?

    4. I’m looking forward to it.我很期待(这个聚会)

    look forward to 期待着盼望着

    其中to是介词后面跟名词或动词-ing形式作宾语不跟动词不定式。

    He is looking forward to your reply.盼望着你的回信。

    Tony was looking forward to working with you.

    托尼一直期盼能和一起工作

    5. How are you?你好吗?

    How are you? 你好吗?

    是熟人见面时的常用问候语。常用“I’m fine, thank you.”“Fine, thank you.”来回答。同时问候对方的状况则用“I’m fine, thank you. How are you?   “Fine, thank you. And you?”

    —How are you? 你好吗?

    —I’m fine, thank you. How are you? 我很好,谢谢。你好吗?

    6. Oh, what a pity! 真可惜!

    What a pity! 真可惜!真遗憾!

    My mother is calling me, so I’ve got to leave now.

    我妈妈正在给我打电话,所以现在我得走了。

    —What a pity! 真遗憾!

    —I’m afraid he can’t go with you.恐怕不能同你们一起去了。

    —What a pity! 那太遗憾了!

    辨析say, speak, tell talk

    say

    说;讲;告诉

    常用作及物动词,后面接所要说的内容;sayto sb. 对某人说……

    speak

    谈话;交谈

    用作不及物动词,不强调说话的内容;用作及物动词时,宾语一般是表示某种语言的名词

    tell

    告诉

    及物动词,后面接双宾语结构,tell sb. sth.告诉某人某事

    talk

    说话;讲话;谈话

    不及物动词,常与to, with等介词连用

    I can speak Chinese.我会说语。
