People choose to learn a foreign language because they want to communicate with the local people. However, some other people are just curious about foreign cultures and wish to learn the language so that they can learn more about the land, the culture and the people. Whatever your reason may be, the best foreign language software around will certainly help you pick up the language in a few weeks.
    Tell Me More
This software is used by the U. S. State Department, and it is believed to be the best foreign language learning software around the world. It offers instructions for learning Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. The software does not come cheap as it costs around $250, but it is definitely worth the price for someone who is serious about picking up a foreign language.
    Talk Now
If you are looking for a more economical language learning software, then this is just the tool for you. This software will cost you around $ 40, and even though it is not as effective as Tell Me More, it is still a very good software for the purpose. The disadvantages are that there is very little focus on grammar, and an obvious lack of effective interactive methods for learning, which do not result in fluency.
    Instant Immersion
This software provides learning materials for up to 33 different languages, and it is regarded as the best software for learning Spanish as well. It will cost you around $ 30, and this is a very reasonable price for such a highly-recommended and loved language learning software. The learning courses are highly interactive and stimulating.

A mother, Carrie Cort, 51, from Sussex, and her nine-year-old son have been named the UK’s most environmentally friendly family after winning an award for their environmental achievements.
Now every aspect of her life is environmentally friendly, from her son Adam’s birthday parties to her clothing, and she recycles everything from empty pens to milk bottle tops. “Changing our family lifestyle to green has saved us around £11, 000 every year, which has given us more financial stability, ” Carrie says. “Living green has made us healthier and I feel younger now. It is fun seeing what you can make with unwanted or broken things. Growing your own food is great exercise, good for wildlife, and the food is much more nutritious and tastier.”
“My concern for the way we humans are treating the planet was really awaken in 2008 when Adam was born. When he arrived, I suddenly had this huge, greater awareness of the kind of planet we're bringing our children into though I learnt something about it in university.” She began going to talks, reading books, watching documentaries and attending green meetings in order to educate herself in the details of green living.
Carrie set up the local campaign group Sussex Green Living six years after her son’s birth. Later, she gave up her high-powered job, to do her job full-time. Today, she organizes talks and workshops. She runs a repair cafe, where people can bring everything to be fixed. Her recycling program helps people reuse wastes. “My goal is to inspire more people to lead greener, more environmentally friendly lives, to enable us to live in greater harmony with nature, now and for future generations. Friends who seem to post a photo of every meal they eat on Instagram or Twitter may not just be annoying, but they may have a problem.
The trend of “foodstagramming” has bothered some restaurants to the point, so that they have prohibited diners from taking photos of their meals. But Dr. Valerie Taylor, an expert at Women’s College Hospital at the University of Toronto, argues that over-documenting one's meals could be a signal of a larger dieting problem.
Taylor spoke at the Canadian Obesity Summit in Vancouver last week about eating disorders and food’s role in our culture. While Taylor admitted that sharing photos of food on social media is relatively common, she said that in some cases it can come at the exclusion( 排斥 ) of everything else. “The concern grows when all they do is send pictures of food,” Taylor told HuffPost. “We take pictures of things that are important to us, but for some people, the food itself becomes the center and the rest-the venue, the company, etc.-is background.”
While Taylor argues that producing such images may signal an unhealthy addiction to food, others have linked the consumption of food photography to weight gain. Mehmet Oz, a television host, argued on his show that “food photo” was making society fatter. Oz was referring to people who posted tasty photographs, such as those in magazines and on blogs, but Food & Wine’s Gail Simmons said food photography is nothing new, since her employer’s been doing it for decades.
However, Taylor isn’t just focused on Instagram users. She noted in her speech that food tattoos(纹身) send a similar warning sign. “I think for some people it highlights how important food has become,” Taylor said. “Just like the tattoo of ‘I love McDonald’s’ replacing the ‘I love Mom’ tattoo, food is taking on a very important role. It has moved beyond simply fuel. ”
    28. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
    A. We can’t value food photos too much.
    B. Some people do nothing but share food photos
    C. There will be a problem when people make food their center.
    D. Sharing food photos on social media is a rare phenomenon.
    29. According to Mehmet Oz, sharing food photos frequently________.
    A. is nothing new
    B. is a healthy addiction
    C. will lead to life disorder
    D. will make people gain weight
    30. What’s Tayor’s attitude to food tattoos?
    A. Cautious. B. Disapproving. C. Favorable. D. Uncaring.
    31. What could be the best title of the passage?
    A. Sharing Food Photos on Media, a Signal of Bigger Problem
    B. Sharing Food Photos on Media, a New Trend
    C. Food , Focus of All Social Bad Effects
    D. Food, Important in Life
    D
The New England Journal of Medicine published outcomes from the NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study, which found drinking coffee was associated with living longer in both men and women. This is one of the largest prospective (forward-looking) studies ever performed on nutrition and disease, following more than a half million people for a dozen years.
This follows on the article published last month in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition entitled “Coffee Consumption and Risk of Chronic Diseases: Changing Our Views,” which reviewed the growing evidence that for most people, the benefits of drinking coffee likely outweigh the risks. Though the study published today found no significant relationship between coffee consumption and cancer, it suggests coffee consumption may lead to a small reduction in cancer incidence.
The reason why it’s so difficult to study the relationship between diet and disease is that many dietary behaviors are associated with non-dietary behaviors. For example, people who drink coffee may be more likely to have a cigarette in the other hand, which can lead to false conclusions. When these factors are considered, though, the best available evidence suggests that coffee drinking is generally health-promoting.
What about the caffeine, though? Up to a thousand milligrams of caffeine is considered safe for most people, which translates into about 10 cups of coffee a day. Pregnant women, however, should restrict their caffeine consumption.
There are a few other warnings about coffee. Some health conditions may be worsened by coffee, such as insomnia, anxiety and high blood pressure.
Despite the growing evidence of health benefits associated with coffee consumption, I still don’t recommend my patients drink it—not because it’s not healthy, but because there are even healthier choices. In this way, coffee is like a banana. Just as I encourage people to make healthier fruit choices.
    32. From the text, we can infer that _________.
    A. drinking coffee leads to some diseases
    B. pregnant women shouldn’t drink coffee
    C. drinking coffee can reduce the risk of anxiety
    D. not all people can benefit from drinking coffee
    33. Why is it hard to find the relationship between diet and disease?
    A. Because dietary and non-dietary behaviors are connected.
    B. Because few people do the research in this area.
C . Because the study involves too many people.
    D. Because the study may last for many years.
    34. What does the author think of drinking coffee?
    A. It is not healthy at all. B. It can keep one energetic.
    C. There are better choices than it. D. It has more risks than benefits.
    35. What is the passage mainly about?
    A. Drinking coffee brings health benefits.
    B. Drinking coffee causes bad habits.
    C. How to drink coffee healthily.
    D. Fruits are better than coffee.
    第二节(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)
    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
The first-ever photo of a black hole was introduced on April 10, marking a historic breakthrough in astrophysics research. The image was from data collected by a global program, the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). 36
A black hole is a region in space where the pulling force of gravity is so strong that even the light cannot escape.  37 There are three main types of black holes.  The smallest ones are known as primordial black holes. Scientists believe this type of black hole is as small as a single atom but with the mass of a large mountain. The most common type of medium-sized black holes is called “stellar”. Supermassive black holes are the largest ones, which can have a mass equivalent to billions of suns.
In 2017, scientists from the EHT team combined the power of eight radio observatories around the world to create a “virtual” radio telescope.  This large “virtual” radio telescope helps researchers make out the details of two nearby supermassive black holes. The first, called Sagittarius A*, is at the center of Milky Way galaxy. 38 The second supermassive black hole resides inside an extremely large galaxy called Messier 87, which is about 53.5 million light-years away from our planet.
39 A black hole is invisible as the strong gravity is pulling all of the light into its center. Scientists previously depended on exploring the black holes’ effects on other stars to speculate their existence. For example, when a star is orbiting a certain point in space, scientists can study the star’s motion to find out if it is orbiting a black hole. 40 It is produced when a black hole and a star are orbiting close together.

    A. That’s about the size of our earth.
    B. It’s about 26,000 light-years from the earth.
    C. Black holes can come in a range of sizes.
    D. How can we find black holes in the universe?
    E. Scientists spent a little over two years to build it.
    F. Instruments can also see the high-energy particle.
    G. The photos provide direct visual evidence of black holes.

    Text 1
    M: Lovely day, isn’t it?
W: Yes, isn’t it? In our city we haven’t such a day.
M: It’s a pity. By the way, what part of the world do you come from?
    W: France. What about you?
    Text 2
W: Anything I can do for you?
M: Could I change these pounds for dollars, please?
W: Do you want small bills or large ones?
    M: It doesn’t matter.
    Text 3
W: You must be thirsty. Would you like a bottle of Coca Cola?
M: I would rather have a bottle of beer than Coca Cola.
W: That’s OK. Here you are.
    M: Thank you.
    Text 4
    M: Miss Wang.
W: Yes, sir. Anything I can do for you?
M: Yes. Please make a call to IBM. Tell them that we will place an order for 50 personal computers.
W: All right. I’ll do it at once.
    Text 5
W: You look awful. Do you have a cold?
M: No, I’ve been up all night finishing a paper. All I’ve had to drink is coffee.
    Text 6
W: Now you say you’re not sure how the thieves got in. Before I look round, can I ask you a few questions about the house?
    M: Of course.
W: Do you always lock the front door when you go out?
M: Yes, and I’m sure I locked it yesterday.
    W: What about the windows?
M: Well, the downstairs ones are always locked. We even have a lock on the little one in the hall.
    W: And upstairs?
M: Well, I think most of the windows probably locked. They were all locked on Friday.
W: And you didn’t open any on Friday night?
    M: No. I’m sure I didn’t.
W: Well, I can’t understand it. Let’s go and look round. Perhaps I’ll notice something you have missed.
    Text 7
M: Can you tell me something about your education?
W: Yes. I’m a graduate of Zhengzhou University. I studied business.
M: Did you like your courses?
W: Very much, and I’ve done well in all of them. Here are the results of my examinations.
M: Hmm, you were indeed a good student. What about your spoken English?
W: I can talk with foreigners freely. When I was at college, I often went to the English Corner. We had English teachers from Australia.
M: Hmm. We can hire you. We give the employees a salary of 480 dollars a month at the beginning. If you do a good job, you will get a raise in three months’ time.
W: That’s great. How long should I work every day?
M: Four hours every day and two days off in a week.
W: Do you offer housing for employees?
M: Not now. My assistant will answer your questions.
W: OK. When shall I begin my work?
    M: Next week.
    Text 8
W: Did you see the late night film on television yesterday?
M: The one on channel 8?
W: No. On channel 5. It was about a couple who hiked across the Sahara Desert.
    M: No, I didn’t. Was it good?
W: Well, it was quite good, I suppose, but all those miles of sand did get a bit boring after a while. I think I prefer horror films to travel stories or love stories.
M: I went out for a meal with my friends. They took me to a Greek restaurant.
W: Sounds unusual! What was the food like?
M: Actually, I quite liked it.
W: I’m not keen on foreign food myself. I’d rather stick to roast beef or chips.
M: Yes, I notice you always eat chips! Don’t ever get sick of chips?
W: No, never. In fact, I’d rather eat chips than bread.
M: Well, I prefer trying new food to eating the same old things day after day.
W: I see. So you won’t be coming to the café at lunch time with me, then. You’d rather eat on your own, right?
    M: Well...
    Text 9
M: Hi, Rebecca, haven’t seen you for ages! You seem to have lost a lot of weight.
W: Yes, I have. I have been on a diet and exercising a lot.
M: There will be a baseball game in the stadium this afternoon. Would you like to watch it?
W: No, I think baseball games are boring.
    M: Do you like volleyball?
W: Yes, I do. But I prefer soccer to volleyball.
M: Did you ever play soccer in high school?
W: Yes, I was on the school team. We were required to practice four hours a day.
M: Did you often play other schools and play well?
W: Yes, we often did. We almost won the championship.
M: You must have had very good teamwork.
W: Yes, we did. Teamwork is the most important element in winning.
    Text 10
When you take a walk in any of the cities in the West, you often see a lot of people walking with dogs. It is still true that the dog is the most useful and faithful animal in the world. But the reason why people keep a dog has changed. In the old days people used to train dogs to protect themselves against attacks by other beasts. And later they came to realize that a dog was not only useful for protection but willing to obey his master. For example, when people used dogs for hunting, the dogs wouldn’t eat what was caught without permission. But now people in a city need not protect themselves against attacks from animals. Why do they keep dogs then? Some people keep dogs to protect themselves from thieves. But the most important reason is for companionship. For a child, a dog is his best friend when he has no friends to play with. For young couples, a dog is their child when they have no children. For old couples, a dog is also their child when their real children have grown up. So the main reason why people keep dogs has changed from protection to friendship.
