    Dear Tom,
While cleaning up my bookshelf this weekend,I found a stack of cards. When I read the words on each card,my eyes watered. It was these encouraging cards that helped me get through my frustration.
I felt pressured at the beginning of high school and I was afraid of falling behind every minute of the days.Mum was so considerate that she found my problems. From then on,I could find a special card on my desk every morning.Gradually,I became less anxious and began to find pleasure in my studies.Mum makes me understand that pressure can't be avoided. What counts is how to deal with it properly, and how to turn it into pleasure or challenges.
    Yours,

I think adults are affected by media, songs and the Internet, and that is hard enough. After reading all of the magazines and looking at the models,my friends and I agree that our least favourite day of the year is when we wear swimsuits! It affects your whole mood and self-image for the day.Think about how hard it is for young girls if they believe “how hot you look” is how valuable you are.
Here are some ways parents can be proactive in encouraging a healthy self-image in their children.
First, teach what real value is.I think kids sometimes are confused about value. How valuable you are is not measured by how pretty you are on the outside and success is not measured by how famous you are.We were watching the Oscars and my 6-year-old son said “She is so pretty,” and then quickly looked at me and said “You are prettier,Mum.” And I said,“It's okay. There are many people prettier than me on the outside.I know that's not why you love me.” It is important to teach children this from an early age.
Second, tell your kids about “the grass is always greener syndrome”. It is very easy for all of us to see the glamour (魅力),whether it is in a famous player or the most popular girl in the school.Do not dehumanise (使失去人性) and judge famous people.Talk about what problems they might have that are different from the problems your child has and maybe some of the same struggles, like maybe wanting acceptance from peers.
At last, use your mouth.Don't be afraid to have conversations with your child about how they're feeling about ads, songs, etc.Boys too! You are the parent! Kids of all ages want and need boundaries whether they admit it or not.Take a stand and have confidence enough not to be followers and not to purchase clothing, music,or magazines that you don't believe send the right message to your children!
1.What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
    A.Singing with friends.
    B.Learning swimming skills.
    C.Showing imperfect figures.
    D.Reading fashion magazines.
    2.The author's son said “You are prettier,Mum” probably .
    A.to praise his mother
    B.to comfort his mother
    C.because he didn't like stars
    D.because he really thought so
3.What syndrome is mentioned in Paragraph 4?
A.Lots of people like judging others.
B.Kids want to be popular in the school.
C.People tend to like famous players.
D.People always think others' life is better.
4.In the last paragraph, the author advises parents to .
    A.set limits for their kids
    B.make friends with their kids
C.teach their kids how to be confident
D.encourage their kids to be themselves
由画线词上文的“After reading all of the magazines and looking...when we wear swimsuits!”
由画线句上文的“We were watching the ... said ‘She is so pretty,' and then quickly looked at me and said”及下文作者的话“It's okay. There are ... the outside.”
由第四段中的“the grass is always greener syndrome”及“It is very easy for all of us to see the glamour(魅力)...”
由最后一段中的“You are the parent! Kids of all ages want and need boundaries whether they admit it or not.”

    (Text 5)
W:Where have you been?It is a long time since I saw you last month at the company's dinner party.Have you been away on business?

M:Oh,nothing much. What about you? What have you been doing?
W:Well,we've been practising for the school play at the end of the year.
M:That sounds fun.I haven't been doing much.I can't use my computer because my mum's been painting my room,so I've been using the living room as my bedroom.
    W:Lucky you!
M:What do you mean?I don't like sleeping on the sofa!
W:But you'll have a nice room when it's finished.I've been asking my mum to paint my room for ages, but she just says,“Yes,dear,”and never does anything.
M:Maybe my mum will come and do it for you.
    (Text 7)
W:Hey,Mark.Do you want to play a game with my friends and me?
    M:Sure,games are easy.I always win.
    W:Oh,really?Well,then.You can go first.
    M:Where's the ball?
W:It's not that type of game.
M:Oh,is this one of those table games with all the rules?
W:No,this is really easy.First, close your eyes and take a piece of paper from this bowl.OK,now read what it says.Your goal is to get the other players to guess it,but you can't say anything.
M:Oh,I get it.So I have to use my hands to make them guess it.
W:Correct. So do you still think you can win?
    M:Well,I...because you can't...I don't know if I...
    W:Just try!One,two,three,go!

M:Can you tell me what the visiting hours are?
W:Yes,of course. They're in the morning from 9:00 to 11:00 and in the afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00.
M:How many visitors can I have at the same time?
    W:Only two at a time.
    M:OK.What other rules are there?
W:Well, you can see the“No Smoking”sign. We don't allow smoking in the
patients' room and the same goes for alcohol. However,if you do need to smoke, there are special lounges.
    M:Oh,I don't smoke.
W:Good. If you need help, you can press the button on your bed.We have nurses on duty 24 hours a day.
    (Text 10)
W:When I was young,I dreamt of being a famous designer.I was so crazy about designing clothes that I painted many pictures everywhere. My mother was often mad at me when she saw my paintings everywhere on the walls in our house. She always hoped that I could be a teacher.I guess she wanted me to follow her footsteps. My father,
however, expected me to become a photographer. He even bought me a camera and all kinds of professional books and encouraged me to attend youth photo contests. However,as you can see,my friends,I finally became a TV host.Life is unpredictable.Sometimes you may not achieve the dreams you once had in your childhood. But it doesn't matter. And it doesn't mean you'll have to give up your dreams. You can always leave your dream in your heart and keep it as a lifetime hobby. As for me,I am still good at designing and choosing beautiful clothes. It's a great way to relax in my spare time.I also love photography and travelling. All my friends like the photos I take for them.

When I was a kid,my siblings (兄弟姐妹) and I used to have ice cream for dessert.Every day,we would choose which ice cream flavour to have, whether to eat it in a cone or a bowl. Then we would happily wolf down our treat (款待) as fast as we could.
Once, though, when I was probably about 10 or 11,our grandpa came to visit us.Grandpa always had a unique view on things. On this particular occasion,my sister and I were making bets as to who could finish our ice cream first. With a smile,Grandpa said,“Why would you want to finish first? If you eat slowly,it will last longer. You should have a competition to see who can finish last.” Even now,I always try to taste my ice cream, but of course this is about more than just dessert.
Too often, kids want to scramble (争夺) for more, whether it's more ice cream, more toys,or more friends. This habit persists into our adult years, and we end up constantly scrambling for more.We never develop the skill of appreciating what we have.If we learn to recognise this pattern and change it,we can raise our kids a little differently, giving them the tool of tasting their widely known dessert, which could lead to a happier life for them.
What my grandpa taught me that day was really that if you take the opportunity to enjoy what's in front of you,the pleasure will last longer and be more rewarding than if you rush through life always trying to get the next treat. It's a lesson that,I think, has made my adult life happier,as well. These days, when I want something,I wait as long as I can before I allow myself to have it.Then, when I finally get it,I make sure to treasure it as long as possible, because I know that,no matter what it is,it will be gone all too soon.

D.The author longs for the days when they ate ice cream.

Parents and kids today dress alike, listen to the same music, and are friends. Is this a good thing?Sometimes, when Mr Ballmer and his 16-year-old daughter,
Elizabeth, listen to rock music together and talk about interests they both enjoy, such as pop culture,he remembers his more distant relationship with his parents when he was a teenager.
“I would never have said to my mum,‘Hey,the new Weezer album is really great. How do you like it?'”says Ballmer.“There was just a complete gap(差距) in taste.”
Music was not the only gulf. From clothing and hairstyles to activities and expectations, earlier generations of parents and children often appeared to move in separate orbits.
Today, the generation gap has not disappeared, but it is getting narrow in many families. Some conversations would not have taken place a generation ago.Now they are comfortable and common. And parent-child activities, from shopping to sports,
involve a feeling of trust and friendship that can continue into adulthood.
No wonder greeting cards today carry the message,“To my mother,my best friend.”
But family experts warn that the new equality can also result in less respect for parents.“There's still a lot of strictness and authority on the part of parents out there, but there is a change happening,” says Kerrie,a psychology professor at Lebanon Valley College.“In the middle of that change, there is a lot of confusion among parents.”
Family researchers offer a variety of reasons for these evolving(逐渐演变的) roles and attitudes. They see the 1960s as a turning point.Great cultural changes led to more open communication and a more democratic(民主的) process that encourages everyone to have a say.
“My parents were on the ‘before’side of that change, but today's parents, the 40-year-olds,were on the ‘after’side,”explains Mr Ballmer.“It's not something easily accomplished by parents these days, because life is more difficult to understand or deal with, but sharing interests does make it more fun to be a parent now.”
28.The underlined word “gulf” in Paragraph 3 most probably means .
    A.interest B.change
    C.difference D.separation
    29.The change in today's parent-child relationship is .
    A.more confusion among parents
B.new equality between parents and children
C.less respect for parents from children
D.more strictness and authority on the part of parents
    30.By saying “today's parents,the 40-year-olds,were on the ‘after’side”,Mr Ballmer means that today's parents .
A.follow the trend of the change
B.can set a limit to the change
C.fail to take the change seriously
D.have difficulty adjusting to the change
31.The purpose of the passage is to .
A.describe the difficulties today's parents have met with
B.discuss the development of the parent-child relationship
C.suggest the ways to handle the parent-child relationship
D.compare today's parent-child relationship with that in the past
结合上下文可知“Music was not the only gulf.”
根据倒数第二段中“They see the 1960s...everyone to have a say.”

Teenagers who spend hours in front of the television may have a poor diet as young adults.
A study which involved (涉及) nearly 1,400 high school students, found those who watched TV for five hours or more every day had less healthy diets. Why does this happen? Should the parents take any measures?
On the one hand, people who spend a lot of time in front of the TV,especially teenagers may snack(吃零食) more, and that may affect their long-term diet quality. On the other hand,TV ads for fast foods, sweets and snacks cause teenagers to eat more of those foods. And TV time might also replace exercise time for some kids.
Lead researcher Dr Daheia J told Reuters Health a clear relation between TV time during high school and diet quality in young adulthood. While the heaviest TV viewers were eating the most junk food, those who had watched less than two hours per day had the highest intake(吸收) of fruit, vegetables and food high in calcium(钙).In her opinion, parents should limit and monitor TV viewing.
As far as I'm concerned, children should watch no more than two hours of TV per day.And parents should set a good example by eating right, being physically active and curbing their own TV time.
32.What's the best title for this passage?
    A.Keep parents away from TV
B.Teenagers' TV time may affect their diets later
    C.Why do teenagers like TV?
D.Parents' own habits may affect children's
33.According to the passage, heavy TV viewers are easy to .
    A.eat more fruit
    B.eat fewer vegetables
    C.eat less junk food
D.eat more food high in calcium
34.The underlined word “curbing” in the last paragraph can be replaced by .
    A.adding B.checking
    C.controlling D.stopping
35.What suggestion does the author give the parents?
A.They must watch TV with their children.
B.They should stop the children from watching TV.
C.They should pay attention to nutrition in diets.
D.They can't do what they don't want their children to do.

根据第四段中的“While the heaviest TV viewers ... limit and monitor TV viewing.”

Some shy people find that they can talk fine with their old friends, but struggle with strangers. They want to “fit-in” with new people, but it's really not easy for them.36.
      Work on raising self-confidence
Having high self-confidence helps you to be outgoing because you get recognition from yourself.37.
      Be in the present moment
Shy people spend too much time in their heads.38. Being mindful of the present moment increases social ability because you have “more to work with”.This improves your confidence, making you more likely to be outgoing.
      Say no to limiting beliefs
Some people are so careful in conversations. They don't want to say “wrong things”.They don't like themselves around new people and can't stand out because they're afraid even to try.39. So,plan to say something a little embarrassing about yourself in a conversation. The point is,you'll prove to yourself it's OK to be not always right. That way you'll feel free to be social with people.
Little by little you'll get better. As you succeed, you'll grow confident to be more outgoing, which will lead to more social success.40.
A.Then, you're in a positive state of finding more friends.
B.The real problem is that the feeling is based on completely false beliefs.
C.When you feel good about yourself, what others think of you doesn't matter so much.
D.Here are some tips on how to be more outgoing and be social with people.
E.They could improve their social skills through these ways.
F.Because of this, they don't catch helpful details of the moment.
G.You'll know you can fit in whenever and wherever you like.
C项中的“feel good about yourself”与小标题中的“Self-confidence”相一致,故选C项。
F项中的“the moment”与小标题中的“the present moment”相一致,故选F项。

动词短语decide to do sth.
    59.so/and 考查连词。

      One possible version:
    Dear Sir or Madam,
I'm writing to express my attitude towards the topic “Whether teenagers' secrets should be kept from their parents”.
As a teenager,I don't see anything wrong in keeping secrets to ourselves. We teenagers are going through a special period of development both physically and psychologically.Exposed to a world of adults,it is just too natural for us to begin imitating adults' behaviors in secret. That's just part of growth.Keeping our secrets from our parents can provide us with a chance to experience the world on our own, which will surely exert a positive effect on our future development.
As for me,I do have my little secrets and rarely share them with my family. My parents are very understanding. They say they are glad that I'm beginning to have my own world.Instead of building a generation gap, this makes us feel even closer to each other.
    Yours sincerely,
    Li Hua
It was Christmas Eve 1949.I was 15 and feeling sad because there was not enough money to buy the dress I wanted. After supper,I sat by the fireplace, waiting for Pa to read a story. But Pa didn't do;instead,he went outside.
Several minutes later,he shouted in the yard,“Come on,Elizabeth.Bundle up.It's cold out.” I was upset. Not only wasn't I getting the dress, but now Pa was dragging me out in the cold.As I opened the door,a big sled(雪橇) stood before me.I unwillingly climbed up.We loaded it with wood.We loaded the sled so high that I began to wonder whether the horses would be able to pull it.Before we set off,Pa hurried to the kitchen and returned with a sack of flour over his right shoulder and a smaller sack of something in his left hand.I felt puzzled and annoyed.
“What's in the little sack?” I asked.“Shoes.They're out of shoes.Little Jake had gunnysacks (黄麻袋) wrapped around his feet when I saw him digging for wood in the snow yesterday.I also brought some candy for the kids.”
We rode the two miles to the little Jake's place in silence.I tried to think through what Pa was doing.Widow(寡妇) Clark,Jake's mother, had closer neighbours than us.Why was it our concern?
We unloaded the wood and knocked on the door.Mrs Clark opened the door. She had a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. The three children were huddled(挤在一起) underneath another blanket, sitting in front of a small fire.
Pa set the sack of flour on the table and handed her the other sack. She opened it hesitantly and took out the shoes,a pair for her and one pair for each of the children. She bit her lower lip to keep it from trembling as tears ran down her cheeks. She looked at Pa as if she wanted to say something, but nothing came out.
Pa turned to me and said,“Elizabeth,go bring in enough wood to heat this place up.”
    Paragraph 1:
I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes.

    Paragraph 2:
Before we left,Pa took each of the kids in his big arms and gave them a hug.

      One possible version:
I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes.I wasn't the same person when I went to get the wood.Soon the fire was blazing. The room became warm and everyone's spirits were lifted. The kids giggled happily when Pa handed them each a piece of Christmas candy, and Widow Clark looked with a smile that probably hadn't crossed her face in a long time. With deep gratitude, she said many words of blessing.
Before we left,Pa took each of the kids in his big arms and gave them a hug. They clung to him and didn't want us to go.I could see that they missed their Pa,and I was glad that I still had mine.On the sled,Pa explained where the money he and Ma had tucked away here and there all year long to buy me a dress for Christmas had gone.It had been spent on the shoes and candy. He hoped that I could understand.Only then did I realise my father had given me a gift much greater than a dress—the best Christmas memory of my life.
