Some students prefer to learn by themselves. They think they can learn better in this way because,they have more freedom, pressure and independence. There is some truth in their way.1.It is better to have a teacher, especially when they learn something more difficult.
First, a teacher can act as a guide to lead you to success. When you learn, you need help and advice. A teacher will give you a hand when you face difficulties. 2.

Last but not least, studying with a teacher will help you receive the benefit of the teacher’s knowledge4..They teach students how to learn and how to obtain information. They guide all
of you in class to discuss the material and provide extra material to broaden the scope of the topic.
5.I choose to learn in a big family---my school. Without a teacher, I would feel there would be no fun and no pressure. I could not learn well in such dull and depressing circumstances.
A.Besides, teachers are connected with our life.
B.Teachers can help you solve all of your problems.
C.In short, I prefer to go to class studying with a teacher.
D.Without a guide, you would be searching in darkness.
E.And you may become inactive for lack of a strong will.
F.But they fail to see the advantages of learning with a teacher.

    A
Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cochran, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School, did something unforgettable. On the first day of school, with permission of the school headmaster, she took all of the desks out of the classroom.
The kids came into the first period. They walked in, and there were no desks. They looked around and said, "Ms Cochran, where are our desks?" And she said, “You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn them.”
They thought, "Well, maybe it's our grades.”
    "No," she said.
    "Maybe it's our behavior."
And she told them, "No, it's not even your behavior."
Second period, the same thing. Third period... By early afternoon television news reporters had gathered in Ms. Cochran’s class to find out about this crazy teacher.
The last period of the day, Martha Cochran gathered her class. They were at this time sitting on the ground floor around the sides of the room. "Throughout the day no one has really understood how you earn the ordinary desks in this classroom." she said, "Now I'm going to tell you."
Martha Cochran went to the door of the classroom and opened it, and as she did, twenty-seven adults, who were fathers or mothers of the kids, walked into that classroom, each one having a school desk. And they placed those school desks in rows. And when they finished placing those desks, those kids for the first time in their lives understood how they earned those desks.
Martha said, "You don't have to earn those desks. They did it for you. They put them out there for you, but it's up to you to sit here responsibly to learn, to be good students and good citizens, because they paid a price for you to have that desk, and don't ever forget it!"
26.Why did Cochran take all the desks out of the classroom?
A.Because she wanted to punish the kids. B.Because she wanted to let kids know how they earned the desks.
C.Because kids didn't need any desks at her classes. D.Because the desks were all broken.
27.Who get kids to have a chance to get education?
    A.Teachers. B.The headmaster. C.Kids themselves. D.Kids’ parents.

A.Kids finally understood what their teacher meant by themselves. B.The headmaster supported Ms. Cochran’s idea.
C.Kids studied without desks on the first day. D.Kids' parents earned the desks for them.

Katie was in big trouble. She was such a sweet kid; a third-grade teacher always dreamed of having a classroom filled with Katies; she was never ever a discipline(纪律) problem. I just couldn’t imagine why she had made her parents so angry.
It seemed that Katie had been running up sizable charges in the lunchroom. Her parents explained that Katie brought a great homemade lunch each day, and there was no reason for her to buy school lunch. They assumed a sit-down with Katie would solve the problem, but failed. So they asked me to help them get to the bottom of this situation.
So the next day, I asked Katie to my office. "Why are you charging lunches, Katie? What happened to your homemade lunch?" I asked. "I lose it," she responded. I leaned back in my chair and said, "I don't believe you, Katie. " She didn't care. "Is someone stealing your lunch, Katie?" I took a new track. "No. I just lose it," she said. Well, there was nothing else I could do.
The problem was still unsolved the next week when I noticed a boy who was new to the school sitting alone at a lunch table. He always looked sad. I thought I would go and sit with him for a while. As I walked towards him, I noticed the lunch bag on the table. The name on the bag said "Katie".
Now I understood and I talked to Katie. It seemed that the new boy never brought a lunch, and he wouldn't go to the lunch line for a free lunch. He had told Katie his secret and asked her not to tell anyone that his parents wanted him to get a free lunch at school. Katie asked me not to tell her parents, but I drove to her house that evening after I was sure that she was in bed. I had never seen parents so proud of their child. Katie didn't care that her parents and teacher were disappointed in her. But she cared about a little boy who was hungry and scared.
Katie still buys lunch every day at school. And every day, as she heads out of the door, her mom hands her a delicious homemade lunch.
29.What did the author think of Katie?

A.She lost her homemade lunch. B.She had her homemade lunch stolen.
C.She didn't like the taste of her homemade lunch. D.She gave her homemade lunch to a hungry boy.
31.What was Katie's parents' reaction to the truth about the lunch?
A.They were very angry. B.They were proud of Katie.
C.They were disappointed. D.They were rather upset.
32.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Katie was informed that her parents had known her secret.
B.Katie told the author the truth of her lunch during their first talk.
C.Katie's secret of lunch was discovered by the author by accident.
D.Katie stopped buying lunch at school after her secret was discovered.

Have you ever received a gift that was so clearly not your taste that you wondered if perhaps it had been handed to you by mistake? Worse, have you ever given a present and watched your friend look as though she had opened the wrong box? Maybe she responded with a polite "Why, thank you," but you knew you had missed the mark. Why do presents sometimes go wrong? And what do your choices (good and bad) reflect about your personal qualities?
Choosing the right gift is an art, I believe. It calls for empathy — the ability to put yourself into someone else's head and heart .We're all able to do this; in fact, we're born with a kind of natural empathy. After the earliest period of childhood, however, it needs to be reinforced (加强)—by our parents, teachers, friends. When it isn't, we're not able to understand other people's feelings as sharply. This can show in the gifts we select, and so can many other emotional (情感的) qualities.
Think back to the presents you’ve given over the past year, the time and effort you put into your selection, how much you spent, your thoughts while you were shopping, and your feelings when the receiver opened the package. Keep in mind that what you choose displays your inner world. Of course, you may express yourself differently with different friends, relatives, and other people you know.
We live in a society where exchanging presents is an important part of communication. Ignoring the tradition won't make it go away. If you really dislike such a tradition, tell your friends ahead of time.
33.The underlined expression "you had missed the mark" means "you had failed to _____'.
A.get the expected effect B.keep your friendship C.receive a present in return D.make her feel better
34.Which of the following is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A.Natural empathy needs to be reinforced. B.Choosing gifts requires one to understand the receivers.
C.Selecting the right gift is an ability people are born with. D.Emotional changes influence one's choice of gifts.
35.In the third paragraph, the author tells us that________.
A.attention should be paid to the receivers' responses B.one learns from what he did in the past
C.the choice of gifts reflects one's emotional qualities D.one should spend more time choosing gifts
36.The best possible title for this passage is “_______”.
A.Ways of Choosing Gifts B.An Important Tradition C.Exchanging Presents D.Message in a Gift

Typing your password or credit card number into a computer is a moment’s work. But if you think your personal details disappear as soon as you hit the Return key, think again: they can sit on the computer’s hard disk for years waiting for a hacker to rip them off.
As people spend more time on the web and hackers become more sophisticated, the dangers of storing personal information on computers are growing by the day, security experts say. There are some safeguards, such as never allowing your computer to store your passwords. But even that is no guarantee of security.
When you type in a password, it is stored in random access memory (RAM), where it is held temporarily until other data overwrites it or the computer is switched off.
But every so often, the computer copies the contents of its RAM onto hard disk, where it is easy prey for a hacker, who can read it directly or design a worm to e-mail it back. The longer sensitive data stays in RAM, the more likely it is to be copied onto the disk, where it stays until it is overwritten—which might not happen for years.
Tal Garfinkel and colleagues from Stanford University have created a software tool which simulates the workings of a complete computer system. Within the simulation, sensitive data can be tagged and then tracked as it passes through the system. Next, Garfinkel and his team simulated computers running common software that regularly handles passwords or confidential personal information, such as Internet Explorer, the Windows login script and Apache server software.
In a paper to be presented, they conclude that the programs took virtually no measures to limit the length of time the information is retained. Some of the tested software even copied the sensitive information, apparently without restraint.
This is the first time anyone has tried to measure the extent of this problem, says Rebecca Wright, a security expert at Stevens Institute of Technology. Garfinkel hopes the results will arouse software developers to take action.
37.Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?
A.It is secure to use your password as long as you hit the Return key.
B.Your personal details is likely to be in danger if you spend more time on the web.
C.Your password will be safe if you have some safeguards.
D.Never allowing your computer to store your passwords will be safe.
38.Which of the following is NOT the reason for the unsafety of a password?
A.It will be stored in RAM. B.It will be copied onto hard disk.
C.It might not be overwritten. D.It will disappear as soon as you hit the return key.
39.Tal Garfinkel and his team measured the extent of security of .
A.simulating the working of a complete computer system B.tagging sensitive data
C.passing through the system D.running common software
40.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.The length of the time the information is stored is not limited. B.The programs can not retain the information.
C.The security problem should be paid more attention to. D.Some sensitive information has been copied.

It was time to go home. “Remember to work on your class speeches for homework,” Miss Walker called as everyone started talking and packing their school bags. Jenny felt sick. She hated having to read aloud in class. She was sure everyone got really bored listening to her. Once, when Jenny was reading out her holiday diary, Lee was even looking at his watch, a silver and blue one which seemed just magical.
Jenny watched Lee walk ahead of her as they left school. He seemed so clever, and he had a certain sort of shining confidence. He was just one of those people who were good at everything. Jenny sighed. As she turned the comer, she saw Lee’s watch lying right in the middle of the path.
Jenny knew she should just pick it up and return it to him, but she didn’t want 10 nm after him. Jenny bent down quickly, picked up the watch and ran home. On arriving home, Jenny put it on almost without thinking. She was surprised it fitted so well. She walked to the mirror and started practicing her speech. Words just flooded out of her. “I’m going to talk about swimming. I have been lucky. I’ve won lots of competitions. But when I’m in a race, I’m not really thinking about winning. I’m just loving the feeling of being in the water…” Jenny laughed with excitement. She walked across the room. She suddenly seemed to have a certain sort of confidence. Turning back to the mirror, Jenny saw a flash of light from the watch in the glass. The flashes of silver seemed almost magical. So maybe Lee’s watch really DID have something magic about it.
The next day, as the lesson began, Miss Walker asked who was going to be brave and go first. Nobody moved. Jenny slowly raised her arm. Before Miss Walker could say anything, there was a shout from behind. “She’s stolen my watch!” Lee said angrily, “It went missing at school yesterday.”

根据第二段““You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn them.””
根据倒数第二段“who were fathers or mothers of the kids...each one having a school desk”和最后一段“They did it for you. They put them out there for you...because they paid a price for you to have that desk”可知,是孩子们的父母为孩子们提供了学习的机会,让孩子们得到了学习用的课桌,故选D。
根据倒数第三段“"Throughout the day no one has really understood how you earn the ordinary desks in this classroom." she said, "Now I'm going to tell you."”

由第一段“a third-grade teacher always dreamed of having a classroom filled with Katies; she was never ever a discipline(纪律) problem.” 故选A项。
由第四段,第五段“As I walked towards him, I noticed the lunch bag on the table. The name on the bag said " Katie " 。It seemed that the new boy never brought a lunch, and he wouldn't go to the lunch line for a free lunch.可知,当作者向小男孩走去的时候,作者发现Katie的饭盒在男孩的桌子上。所以Katie将自己母亲给做的午餐让给了这个男孩。因为这个男孩不带饭,也不去领取免费的午餐。故为什么Katie每天吃学校的午餐而不是她自己的午餐是因为她把自己家里做的午饭送给了一个饥饿的男孩。故选D项。
31.细节理解题。由倒数第二段的“I had never seen parents so proud of their child”可知,作者从未见过父母如此为他们的孩子感到骄傲。
由第四段“The problem was still unsolved the next week when I noticed a boy who was new to the school sitting alone at a lunch table. He always looked sad. I thought I would go and sit with him for a while. As I walked towards him, I noticed the lunch bag on the table. The name on the bag said "Katie".”

由第一段“ Maybe she responded with a polite "Why, thank you," 可知,送错了礼物,她不高兴。you had missed the mark”着重点是分析“mark”表示的含义。
由第二段“Choosing the right gift is an art, I believe. It calls for empathy — the ability to put yourself into someone else's head and heart .给别人挑选礼物是一门艺术,它叫做感情移入。”以及When it isn't, we're not able to understand other people's feelings as sharply当这种能力不能得到加强时,我们就不能了解别人的感受。
由第三段“Keep in mind that what you choose displays your inner world ”可知,紧记你挑选的礼物反映你的内心世界。

故填was impressed。

    72.Possible version 1:
Everybody was fixing their eyes on Jenny, waiting for an explanation. Jenny didn’t answer. How could she explain about the watch and its magic? No one could understand. No one could believe. “But I saw you wearing it yesterday,” Miss Walker gently reminded him. For a moment Lee remained silent and then he apologized he had just remembered that. Jenny was relieved saying she had found it on the way home and decided to return it after the speech. Everybody was puzzled and asked why. Jenny again was speechless.
At that, Miss Walker smiled and asked the class to listen to Jenny’s speech first. Jenny walked slowly to the front. She couldn’t think properly. All round her, a sea of faces was watching. She felt so frightened and the watch didn’t seem magical at all. Suddenly she saw Miss Walker’s encouraging eyes. Jenny took a deep breath. “I’m going to talk about swimming…” Ten minutes later the whole class stood up applauding Jenny’s wonderful speech. Jenny smiled as she eventually realized the real source of confidence.
    Possible version 2:
Everybody was fixing their eyes on Jenny, waiting for an explanation. Embarrassed, Jenny didn’t say anything. Dead silence suddenly fell. Then came Miss Walker’s voice. “Why is Lee’s watch on your wrist?” Jenny hesitated for a while and decided to tell everybody about the truth. However, thinking of the well-prepared speech, the magic of the watch, she changed her mind. “But Miss Walker, could I give the speech first and then explain?” She made a request in a tone of begging.
At that, Miss Walker smiled and asked the class to listen to Jenny’s speech first. Jenny made her way to the platform with every confidence. Words began to flood out of her. “How could she make it? We’ve never seen Jenny give so terrific a speech.” Whispers went around the classroom, and even Miss Walker nodded with approval. Immediately Jenny finished her speech, a storm of applause erupted from the class. Relieved, Jenny told everyone the truth, and especially the magic of the watch. “But it’s just an ordinary watch with no magic”, Lee announced.
