Step 1  Review

1. Homework check.

2. Review what the students learned in the last lesson. 

Step 2  Leading in

1. Show a map of China and get the students to ask and answer in pairs like this:

A: What’s this?

B: It’s a map of China.

A: What do you know about our country?

B: ...

2. Get the class to discuss the following questions:

What places of interest do you know in China?

Where are they?

Step 3  Presentation

1. Teach the new words language, else, flag, palace and lovely. Then get the students to repeat the words two or three times after the teacher. Make sure they can pronounce them correctly.

language /ˈlæŋɡwɪdʒ/      flag /flæɡ/      palace /ˈpæləs/

else /els/ adv. 除……以外；其他　　lovely /ˈlʌvlɪ/ adj. 可爱的；美丽的

2. Show three pictures to learn the phrases the Palace Museum, the Great Wall and Tian’anmen Square.

Step 4  Listening and matching

Get the students to read the sentences and match them with the correct pictures. (Let’s Do It! No. 1 )

It is a lovely animal. It lives in China.      

It is a wall. It is long and great.

It is east of China. Jenny and Danny                     

are from that country.                            

It is a museum. It has a long history.

It is famous around the world.

Step 5  Listening and answering

Get the students to listen to Part 1 of the lesson and then answer the question.

What country are they talking about?

Answer: China.

Step 6  Reading and answering

Get the students to read Part 1 of the lesson and answer the questions:

1. Where do Jenny’s friends Li Ming and Wang Mei live?

2. What language do people speak in China?

3. What is the capital city of China?

4. Where are Canada and the U.S.?

Answers: 1. They live in China.

2. They speak Chinese.

3. Beijing.

4. They are east of China.

Step 7  Reading and filling

Get the students to read Part 2 of the lesson and fill in the blanks.

Step 8  Reading , finding and translating

Get the class to read the lesson and find the following phrases, and then translate them.

Step 13  Language points

1. What do you know about China, Jenny? 詹妮，关于中国你了解什么？

  know about意为“了解；知道关于……的情况”。

  Do you know about the city? 你了解这座城市吗？

  What do you know about the Internet? 你对互联网了解多少？

2. They speak Chinese. 他们讲汉语。

  speak作及物动词，意为“讲（某种语言）”。

  I can speak Chinese and English. 我会讲中文和英文。

  His grandfather can speak English very well. 他爷爷英语说得非常好。

辨析：speak, say, tell与talk

3. What else do you know about China? 关于中国你还了解什么？

　else副词，意为“除……以外；其他”，常用于疑问词what, where或不定代词something, anything等之后。

    What else do you want? 你还想要点儿什么？

    Who else will go with you? 还有谁要和你一起去？

    I won’t tell anybody else. 我不会告诉其他人。

4. This is a lovely panda. 这是一只可爱的熊猫。

　lovely形容词，意为“可爱的；美丽的”。

  The little girl is very lovely. 这个小女孩非常可爱。

  The weather here is lovely. 这儿的天气很好。
