    A

There is so much great food to enjoy on and off the Strip. Remember to follow all guidelines, wear a mask when appropriate, and if you haven’t done so already, get vaccinated before hitting the town.

    Peyote

    Downtown

Not to be confused with a Mexican restaurant with a similar name. The menu is a casual mix of regional American influences. Almost everything on the menu has a connection to the outdoor grill. Of course, meats are the highlight, grilled over red oak with an aroma that can be smelled at least a block away.

The cost: Dishes $13- 45, all glasses of wine $11.

How to order: Book a table online.

    Brezza

    Resorts World

The restaurant offers a modern interpretation of classic Italian cuisine via inventive recipes. Brezza is best enjoyed as a complete multi-course experience, beginning with farm-focused antipasti before continuing with vibrant pastas and meat or seafood dishes.

The cost: Dishes $17-165, glasses of wine $14-32.

How to order: Book a table online.

    Rebellion Pizza

    Anthem

Customize your own pizza with a choice of nearly 20 toppings or go with one of the specialty pies, including the Spicy Honey Pepperoni, tomato-free Spinach, or a focaccia-style Sicilian. The dough uses a polish starter, which produces a soft, chewy crust.

The cost: Pizzas are $10-25, beer $6-10.

How to order: Stop in and order at the counter.

    Saffron

    Chinatown

The menu is an Asian vegetarian tapas with no meat required for satisfying savory bites. There’s a nice selection of organic wines, including a few vegan options, but if you prefer cocktails, try the negroni, which skews a little sweeter than traditional recipes.

The cost: Dishes $12-18, glasses of wine $10-14.

How to order: Book a table via the restaurant’s webpage.

More than a third of small towns in Georgia lost population in the last year alone, highlighting the challenges of reviving rural areas. New census (人口普查) estimates show that Camilla fell below 5,000 residents. Sparks fell below 2,000, and Milan fell to 661 residents for a loss of 7% of its population. All three towns are in South Georgia.

Many of the young people in these communities graduate from high school and don’t come back. “They go to college, whatever, they don’t come back,” said David Bridges, head of its Center for Rural Prosperity and Innovation in Tifton.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s cities are growing, having no problem drawing people from small towns and other cities. Atlanta grew more than 1% in the past year and is now nearing the half-million-resident mark.

The trend of people moving from rural to urban areas is hardly a new one — it’s been going on worldwide for more than a century. But continued population losses have raised questions about whether rural areas can do anything to reverse the tide.

Rural residents can face a number of challenges including access to good jobs, transportation and health care. Manufacturing jobs have dried up in many places, while modernization and new technology means fewer people are needed for farming. And many people are deciding to have smaller families than was typical a century ago.

“The older generation is dying, the younger generation is moving away, and because there are perceived to be fewer business opportunities, financial opportunities, etc. It’s very challenging to get inbound population.” Bridges said.

Demographers (人口学家) expect the shift from rural to urban to continue. But there are some bright spots in rural America still. Jackson County near Athens was recently named one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation by the Census Bureau. Amazon opened a large fulfillment center there a couple of years ago. And Young Harris, near the Georgia-North Carolina border, has grown by more than 80% since 2010.

    4. What happened to the small towns mentioned in Paragraph 1?

    A. Their sizes grew rapidly. B. Their population declined.

    C. They drew more residents. D. They raised challenges to locals.

    5. Which of the following best explains “reverse the tide” underlined in Paragraph 4?

    A. People move from rural to urban areas.

    B. Small towns draw people from cities.

    C. Rural areas develop their economy quickly.

    D. Population continue to grow in urban areas.

    6. Why is David Bridges quoted?

    A. To offer more evidence. B. To draw a conclusion.

    C. To show his contribution. D. To give part of the reasons.

    7. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

    A. Jackson County is the best town in the US.

    B. Rural towns will keep growing to larger ones.

    C. Others will follow the lead of these bright spots.

    D. There can be measures to help rural towns grow.

    C

Early one morning in February, a team of specialists pulled up next to a building in Nottingham. They worked quickly but carefully, removing a small section of the wall on which "Hula-hoop Girl" had been painted by Banksy, an outstanding street artist. John Brandler, a collector, said that he had purchased the artwork from the building's landlord. Local residents were horrified, as the mural (壁画) had spread cheer during the lockdowns in Britain.

It was not the first time Banksy's artwork had been carried off. So many of Banksy's pieces, in particular, have been taken and sold into private collections that they have been brought together to form an exhibition. "The Art of Banksy", the world's largest display of his work, opened in London in May as a paid-for, ticketed exhibition. The show invites art lovers to take cash out to view privately held works intended to be publicly accessible and free. Banksy has criticised the practice, saying that he will not authenticate artworks removed from their original site.

Street art is an unusually risky art form. Painters rarely seek permission to turn a building into a canvas, and so while the artwork belongs to them, the backdrop does not. If they want to protect their pieces from unwanted buyers, artists should ask for permission from the building owner and sign a contract. Another different problem is posed by many street artists' decision to remain anonymous. Artists shield themselves from accusations of deliberately damaging public property by using secret identities, but potentially lose out on the chance to protect their works from copyright theft.

But the legal protections are improving as more people come to appreciate street art's value. Ina case last year, a judge found that famous graffiti (涂鸦) in New York was protected from removal because it had "significant artistic value and cultural importance". Copyright lawsuits are also increasingly common.

    8. What is the main idea of the first paragraph?

    A. Local residents are criticizing the removal.

    B. Banksy's artwork was taken off by a collector.

    C. Hula-hoop Girl has been saved by John Brandler.

    D. Banksy is an outstanding street artist around the world.

    9. What is Banksy's attitude to the exhibition "The Art of Banksy"?

    A. Neutral. B. Positive.

    C. Indifferent. D. Disapproving.

    10. The underlined-word "anonymous" in paragraph 3 means "          ".

    A. famous B. modest C. unidentified D. autonomous

    11. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?

    A. What is street art? B. Who owns street art?

    C. The art of Banksy D. Value of street art

    D

Despite their endless social activities, closely packed urban environments often come with the hidden phenomenon of increased loneliness. According to Dr. Vivek Murthy, United States Surgeon General, the global “loneliness epidemic” is an overlooked consequence of urban living that carries serious risks, associated with heart disease, depression, anxiety, and dementia.

While there are many ways to overcome loneliness, such as redesigning urban architecture to help facilitate social interactions or making it easier for people to own pets, a new study also recommends adding nature into the mix.

The findings, published in the journal Scientific Reports, follows a review of assessments provided by more than 750 U. K. residents who volunteered to use a custom — built smartphone app for two weeks. The participants were questioned randomly three times a day using a technique called an “ecological momentary assessment”. In addition to questions about overcrowding and social inclusion (融入), the volunteers were asked about their natural surroundings, such as “Can you see trees, plants and water right now?” Feelings of“momentary loneliness” were then ranked on a five-point scale.

According to the more than 16, 600 assessments received, overcrowded environments increased feelings of loneliness by a shocking 38%, regardless of age, gender, education level, or occupation. When people were able to interact with green spaces or hear birds or see the sky, however, loneliness dropped by 28%. Social inclusivity, defined by the research team as feeling welcomed by a group or sharing similar values, also dropped loneliness by 21%.

These findings appear to correlate (联系) with previous research into the mental benefits of walking through natural areas. Johanna Gibbons, leader of the research team, further indicates that high-quality green and blue spaces such as parks and rivers in dense urban areas, which is often viewed as a key weapon in the fight against climate change, can also be critical in improving our own well — being and reducing feelings of isolation. She said, “I believe deep in our souls, there are really deep connections with natural forces.”

    12. What problem is discussed in paragraph 1?

    A. Urban living lacks social connection.

    B. Loneliness is a growing threat in cities.

    C. Modern cities are getting overcrowded.

    D. Aging population are facing more risks.

    13. What did the social survey focus on?

    A. How loneliness affected people of all ages.

    B. What the root of the loneliness in cities was.

    C. How hi-technology improved people’s lives.

    D. What people’s favorite living surroundings were.

    14. What might help deal with urban loneliness according to the new survey?

    A. A life experience in nature. B. Low rates of social activities.

    C. An overcrowded environment. D. A design of urban architecture.

    15. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

    A. Playing hard is harmful to mental health.

    B. People in green spaces may be more cheerful.

    C. Global warming changes our characteristics.

    D. Everything is connected with natural forces.

When you think about art, you might think of it as permanent. After all, that picture you drew in kindergarten might still hang on your refrigerator years later. ___16___ Think about a Broadway performance. When it’s over, it’s over. Sure, it might live on in your memory or on film. But the live show was a special event. It was limited to one time and place.

Can you think of other forms of art that are temporary? ___17___ Have you ever spent hours building a beautiful sandcastle? If you have, you probably were sad when it was time to leave the beach. You knew your work of art would be gone as soon as the tide came in. The sandy beach is a canvas(油画布) that nature erases daily.

Most of the time, art made from sand can’t last long. Still, many people love using sand to create their own unique vision of beauty. ___18___ It is a type of live performance art. Artists who work in sand animation use sand to make a set of images that usually tell a story. They often start with a large amount of sand on a flat surface, such as a table. They then use their hands and fingers to draw in the sand.

___19___ However, the wide variety of beautiful and highly-detailed sand artworks might surprise you. Many of these works of art are temporary. That’s where the animation part comes in.

Sand animation artists create a series of images that move to tell a story. They might also use music and special lighting to complete the effect. Sometimes they take photographs of or video their creation throughout the process. ___20___

    A. Not all works of art are permanent, though.

    B. Sand animation is beautiful but lasts only at the moment.

    C. If you’re a fan of the beach, sandcastles might come to mind.

    D. One of the most attractive types of sand art is sand animation.

    E. Then, they turn it into a sand animation movie when it’s finished.

    第二节(满分25分)

        阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

“Wake up, Mom!” I felt a little hand on my face and reluctantly opened my eyes. There was my son, ready to start the day. I also heard my babies awake in the next room. Ready or not, the day had begun!

I loved being home with my little ones, but I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders. My husband and I had just bought a house, and some unexpected expenses made our budget tighter than it had ever been. I was weary of spending more pennies. We weren’t foolish with our money. We worked hard. We were doing all the right things, but we had had one financial disappointment after another.

I was going to pick up my kids’ photo portraits from the studio at the local mall. Despite our small budget, it was important to me to have pictures of my children as they were growing up. The previous week, I had found a coupon (优惠券) and used some change from the car to buy a $7.99 portrait package, and today was the day I was to pick up the portraits. Since we were going to the mall, I decided to make it an outing and packed some sandwiches for us to eat at the food court. What’s more, there are many ride-on toy cars in the mall’s food court for fun and for free.

After breakfast, we went off. After we parked, we walked into the portrait studio at the mall, and I approached the counter. The young woman smiled.

    “May I help you?”

“Yes, I’m here to pick up our photos.”

The woman asked my name and opened her drawer. “Ah, yes, here they are. Aren’t they just so adorable?” She took out the photos, and the smiling faces of my kids warmed my heart.

“Yes, they are great. Thank you,” I said.

She put the photos into an envelope. Then she spread out additional photos of my kids that I hadn’t ordered. I knew what that meant. The upsell pitch (推销) was coming.

“Would you like to purchase these extra portraits? They are only fifteen dollars apiece!” she smiled sweetly.

    注意:

    1. 续写词数应为150左右;

    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

My heart turned cold. “I don’t have fifteen dollars.”

    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

As we were having our lunch, the young woman came up and pressed something into my hand.
