    Unit 3  A day out Integrated skills & Study skills

    设计说明

    首先通过一些问题和与同学们的对话来导入有关篮球比赛的海报内容,在学习新单词后完成课本中的听力内容,在此过程中,对于听力训练给出指导意见,由此练习。通过Speak up的对话,学会向他人提出建议,并对答语给出一定的总结。通过对Reading部分的课文的复习来导入,名词构成形容词的后缀-ful-less,学会在语境中使用合适的形容词,用正确的后缀表明肯定或否定的意思。最后通过练习来巩固本课时的内容。

    教学目标

    通过本单元的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握词汇:final, supportcheerreach, cost, half-time, rest, free, take place, cheer for, get on, helpless, useful, useless, hope, meaning, taste, cheerful, colourful, ticket, keep

    2.能力目标

    (1)学会从海报中获取有用信息,通过听力训练获取阳光中学篮球决赛的具体信息,学会向他人提出建议。

    (2)了解名词构成形容词的后缀-ful-less,学会在语境中使用合适的形容词,用正确的后缀表明肯定或否定的意思。

    3.情感目标

    了解海报的制作包含的几大要素,通过活动培养学生的集体荣誉感。

    教学过程

    Step 1  Lead-in

    1. Show some questions :

    Do you like some outdoor activities?

    What outdoor activity do you like?

    Do you always watch some matches about it?

    When and where do you play it?

    Ask the students to answer the questions.

    2. Watch a video about a final of a basketball competition, ask students to know about the basketball final. 

    Step 2  Presentation

    1. Show them some pictures and present the new words.

    2. Ask them to read the words more than three times and try to remember the words.

    Step 3  Pre-listening

    1. Show them some listening tips

    做听力之前,快速浏览所给的听力材料并整理出要听的重点。

    What is the poster about?

    When will the match take place?

    Where will the match take place?

    2. Deal with Part A1. Ask students to understand they should pick up when andwhere from the listening materials.

    Step 4  While-listening

    1. Deal with Part A1. Listen to the chairperson of the Students Union and help Kitty complete the poster. Play it again and then check the answers.

    2. Deal with Part A2.

    (1) Show listening tip

    在做听力之前,我们可以尝试根据已有的信息和上下文语境来推测所缺内容。

    Predict(预测)

    At 9:00 a.m., we will meet at _____________.

    At 1:00 p.m., we will get on the bus _____________ the restaurant.

    当我们听较长的对话或短文时,可以尝试速记,如记录关键信息的单词首字母。

    当我们在听的过程中,注意听清重要信息,比如时间、地点所要做的事情。

    当我们听较长对话或短文时,务必记住:Past is past已经听过的不太确定的内容,千万不要留恋。否则会错过后面的信息。

    (2) Deal with Part A2. Play the tape and fill in the blanks in Part A2. Play the tape again, students write the answers. Then check the answers with students.

    (3) Listen to tape again, pay attention to the sentences underlined.  

    Now, listen carefully to the plan of the day.

    At 9:30 a. m., well meet at the school gate in Sunny Street. Dont be late! The bus leaves at 9:45 a.m.

    Well reach the Sports Centre at 10:15 a.m. Then go to your seats quickly.

    The match starts at 10:30 a.m. Half-time is at about 10:55 a.m. Its about 10 minutes. When the players rest, you can buy food and drinks in the coffee shop. The match finishes at about 11:30 a.m.

    The bus leaves from the centre at 11:50 a.m. And goes to Moonlight Restaurant in Moonlight Town. After lunch, you must get on the bus in front of Moonlight Restaurant. It leaves at 1:00 p.m. to bring you back to our school. The cost of the trip is only 20 yuan per student. Please come and cheer for our team. We need your support.

    Step 5  Post-listening

    1. Finish Part A3.

    (1) Read Kitty’s notes and check if there are any mistakes. Write a T if a sentence is true or an F if it is false. Ask them to correct the mistakes at the same time.

    (2) Give students two minutes to prepare to make a speech on the final according to Part A2.

    2. Group work.

    Give students three minutes to design their own poster in groups and report it to the whole class. Give a poster as a model.

    Step 6  Lead-in

    1. Show some pictures of the China Science and Technology Museum and teach the new words: science, technology, per, free.

    2. Give students some time to consolidate the new words.

    Step 7  Speak up

    1. Listen and answer.

    (1)Where will they go ?

    (2)Why won’t they go to the Summer Palace ?

    (3)Why won’t they go to the Great Wall?

    Check the answers with students.

    Answers: (1)The China Science and Technology Museum.  (2)Because Linda went there yesterday.  (3)Because it’s too far away.

    2. Find the sentences about requests in the part of Speak up.

    3. Sum up. Give a detail about how to make suggestions.

    A: Shall we …?         B: All right.   

         Let’s …                OK. Let’s go!

         Would you like to …?     I’d love to.

         Why don’t you/we …?    That’s a good idea.

         Why not …?            What a great idea!

         What about…?           I’d love to, but…

         How about …?           I’m afraid that’s not a good idea.

    4. Talk.

    Suppose one of our American teachers would like to visit somewhere in Nanjing, but he/she doesn’t know where to go. Can you give him/her some suggestions? Make a dialogue with your partner. Use Daniel and Kitty’s conversation as a model. Show some pictures of places of interest in Nanjing. Ask students to make a dialogue like Daniel and Kitty. Then choose some pairs to present their dialogues.

    Step 8  Language points

    take place 进行,发生,指事情的发生有一定原因或事先安排的。

    The school sports meeting will take place next week.

    学校运动会将在下周举行。

    【拓展】happen也意为“发生”,但常用于指偶然或突然发生。

    An accident happened on this road yesterday.

    昨天这条路上发生了一起事故。

    Come and cheer for our team! 来给我们队加油吧!

    cheer 动词,意为“欢呼,喝彩”。

    cheer for ……欢呼/喝彩    cheer up(使)振作起来,高兴起来

    Lets cheer for the winners!

    咱们为获胜者喝彩吧!

    Lucy is sad today. Lets cheer her up.

    露西今天很难过,咱们让她高兴起来吧。

    Reach the Sports Certre. 到达体育中心。

    reach意为“到达”,为及物动词,后面可直接跟地点名词。

    I reached Beijing at 7 a.m. yesterday.

    我昨天上午7点到达了北京。

    【拓展】

    arriveget也表示“到达”,但都是不及物动词。arrive后跟大的地点时要加介词in,后跟小的地点时要加介词atget后跟地点名词时要加介词to

    I reached Beijing at 7 a.m. yesterday.

    =I arrived in Beijing at 7 a.m. yesterday.

    =I got to Beijing at 7 a.m. yesterday.

    Get on the bus in front of the restaurant.

    get on 意为“上车”。

    Well get on the bus at six. 我们将在6点上公交车。

    【拓展】get off 下车

    We should get off at the next stop.我们应该在下一站下车。

    Step 9  Practice

    Do some exercises to consolidate the main points in this period.

    一、翻译词组:

    1.发生             take place

    2.在某人的支持下     with one’s support

    Step 10  Lead-in

    1. Revise Reading and give some sentences:

    Then tell students that words end with -ful are adjectives.

    2. Do more exercises

    (1) Sandy is so ______ (care) that she makes few mistakes in her homework.

    (2) Simon is ________ (care), so he always makes too many mistakes in her homework.

    (3) Jack often helps those poor children. He is ________ (help).

    The children in poor areas are _________ (help).

    (4) Dont argue(争论) with them. Its ________ (use).

    Let’s do something ________ (use) to change that.

    Check the answers with students.

    Tell students: 后缀-ful表示full of, -less表示without这两个后缀都是加在名词后面构成形容词。

    Step 11  Presentation

    1. Ask students to find the opposite words of some adjectives. Then tell them that not all the nouns can end with -ful or -less, such as friendly, windy, excited, interesting.

    2. Ask students to help some adjective words to find their friends.

    3. Tell students that some nouns can only end with -ful and some nouns can only end with -less, such as beautiful, beautiless×, endful×, endless.

    4. Work in pairs and complete the table at page 39 Part A. If students cannot add -ful or -less to a word, put a cross (×) in the box. They may use a dictionary.

    Step 12  Practice

    1. One student says one adjective, and the other students say its opposite as quickly as they can.

    2. Make up a story with five adjectives and their opposites on Page 39 in groups. Then choose some students to present their stories.

    3. Challenge (挑战): Each group can choose any level and get the points. There are only 5 chances for each group. Teacher tries to find which group is the best through these exercises.

     

     

    Step 13  Homework

    1. Revise the new words, phrases and sentences in Integrated skills & Study skills.

    2. Make some sentences or a passage with some adjectives ending “-ful” and “-less”.

    1.昨天,八年级八班的同学们乘公交车去上海进行了一日游。

    5.我们下午5点回到家。虽然很累,但我们玩得很高兴。我觉得这是一次有用、又有意义的经历experience

    要求:使用以-ful-less结尾的形容词。

    Yesterday, the students in Class 8, Grade 8 went on a trip to Shanghai by bus. We met at the school gate at 6:00 a.m. We were really cheerful on the bus, but the trip seemed endless. We arrived in Shanghai at 8:00 a.m. and visited many places of interest there. The flowers in the park were colourful and beautiful. We met a helpless boy who had lost his way. We helped him find his parents and Miss Zhang thought we were helpful. We had lunch in a tasteful restaurant and the food was tasty. We got home at 5:00 p.m. I thought it was a useful and meaningful experience.
