2、 What makes a person a scientist?Does he have ways or tools of learning that are different from those of others?

The answer is"no".It isn't the tools a scientist uses but how he uses these tools that makes him a scientist. You will probably agree that knowing how to use a power is important to a carpenter(木匠). You will probably agree, too, that knowing how to investigate(调查),how to discover information,is important to everyone. The scientist, however, goes one step further;he must be sure that he has a reasonable answer to his questions and that his answer he gets to many questions is into a large set of ideas about how the world works.

The scientist's knowledge must be exact. There's no room for half right or right just half the time.He must be as nearly right as the conditions permit. What works under one set of conditions at one time must work under the same conditions at other times. If the conditions are different, any changes the scientist observes in a demonstration(实证)must be explained by the changes in the conditions. This is one reason why investigations are important in science.Albert Einstein, who developed the Theory of Relativity, amved at this theory through mathematics. The accuracy(正确性)of his mathematics was later tested through investigation.Einstein's ideas were proved to be correct.A scientist uses many tools for measurements. Then the measurements are used to make mathematical calculations(计算)that may test

    his investigations.

1.What makes a scientist according to the passage?

    A.The tools he uses.

    B.His ways of learning.

C.The way he uses his tools.

    "The writer says this toshow

B.the difference between scientists and ordinary people

    C.the importance of thinking

D.the difference between carpenters and ordinary people

3.A sound scientific.theory should be one that _________.

A.works under one set of conditions at one time and also works under the same conditions at other times

B.doesn't allow any change even under different conditions

C.can only work under one condition

D.can be used for many purposes

4.What is the main idea of the passage?

A.Scientists are different from ordinary people.

    B.The Theory of Relativity.

    C.Exactness is the core(核心)of science.

D.Exactness and way of using tools are the keys to making of a scientist.

    3、 【2019 • 浙江衢州】

Texting while driving is against the law in 47 states. But what about        texting while walking? A 2018 study reported that more than 2, 500 people in the US ended up in hospitals resulting from using a mobile device(设备) while walking.

Hawaii passed a law making it illegal(违法) to text or look down at a mobile device while crossing the street. It is the first state with a law like this. Do people think more places should accept such a law? The LA Times did a survey. Here are some replies they received.

    Rena Jose, 2, New York

Which is more important, texting or safety? If you are looking at your phone while walking, you might not see a car come or traffic lights turn red. It can be very dangerous. For example, in Japan, one person fell into a lake and another got her leg stuck in a hole, because both had their mind on their phone. We should make texting while crossing the street illegal in more cities.

    Andy Selvam, 55, California

People do many things that cause injury to themselves but are not illegal, such as climbing mountains, driving cars, swimming and so on. People might get hurt from texting and walking if they're not paying attention. But I still think they should have a choice.

    Bob Madigan, 45, Oregon

As humans, we can make our own decisions. I’m not saying it's safe, but we don't need the government to babysit us. If we want to learn to make smart decisions, the government needs to stop telling us what to do. After all, this is a free country.

    Andrew Black, 34, Alaska

This law is a good idea—compare this protection with seat belts. If this law is passed all over US, people will be worried. But is there really a way to please everyone? This would not be for fun. It would be safe and good for all Americans.

12 According to the passage, in _______, it is against the law if people text while crossing the street.

    A. AlaskaB. California            C. Hawaii           D. New York

    13. The LA Times did the survey most probably to _______.

    A. win the hearts of more readers

    B. encourage more states to pass the law

    C. ask readers if they agree with texting while driving

    D. learn about people's opinions on texting while walking

    14. In Rena's reply, she showed the danger of texting while walking by _______.

    A. using numbers          B. giving examples

    C. asking questions       D. telling stories

    15. Which of the following is Andrew Black's opinion?

    A. Texting is more important than safety.

    B. The law would help to keep Americans safe.

    C. It's easy to please everyone when passing a law.

    D. Whether to text or not while walking is people's own choice.

4、 Curiosity(好奇心) is part of human nature, Children are famous for wanting answers to thousands of questions. Books and TV shows often depend on curiosity. People keep reading or watching because they want to find out what happens. But curiosity also provides many advantages.

Learning is the easiest if you have a desire (愿望)for knowledge. Curiosity can create that desire when you have a question you want an answer to. Many of history‘s greatest discoveries were made by curious people. Thanks to their curiosity, people now know far more about the world and have useful technology to help them.

Even if you don' t plan to be an inventor or researcher, curiosity can still help you in the classroom. If you develop the joy of learning, classes will become more fun. And you' ll be better because you will fully take part in the process of learning. Even if you're no longer a student, curiosity will make you get more information and then a better worker.

What do you do if you're not already curious? Luckily, curiosity is a skill that can be improved. If you act like you're curious, you' ll quickly start to actually feel curious.Often, the more you learn about a topic, the more interesting it becomes.

As you learn about a topic, collect information from as many sources(来源) as possible.Read different kinds of books, listen to talks and ask questions. Don't always get your information from the same source. Instead, learn to appreciate (欣赏)facts that different people know and the different opinions that they express. Ask a lot of questions. Remember, everyone knows something that you don't. Find out what that is, and ask about it. This lets you learn something and makes the other person happy by letting them show off their knowledge.

In the classroom or out of it, developing curiosity is sure to be valuable.
