I. Teaching aims and learning objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. learn more information about travelling;

2. know how to ask for help and offer help.

II. Teaching contents

1. New words and phrases: coast, sail, Australian, opposite, mind, print, pleasure, my pleasure

2. New structures: The website takes you to different places around the world.

             Sydney is on the south-east coast of Australia.

             The Sydney Opera House looks like a ship with many sails.

             It takes about three hours to climb the Harbour Bridge.

             Australian seasons are the opposite of ours.

             Would you mind showing me how to start this online tour?

             If you click on the “Camera” icon, you can see many pictures of the city.

Step 1 Lead-in

1. Watch and answer

T: Today, I will take you to visit a wonderful city. First, let’s enjoy some pictures about Sidney. There are many different places of interest in the city. What are they?

Step 2 Pre-listening

Brainstorming

1. We all know Sydney is in Australia, but who knows its exact location?

2. Is Sydney the capital of Australia?

3. In Australia, the seasons are different from those in China. Do you know why?

4. Look at this picture of the Sydney Opera House. What does it look like? And where is the Harbour Bridge?

5. Do you want to learn more about Sydney?

T: Listen to Daniel and Peter’s conversation and tell if the sentences in Part A2 are true or false.

T: We have learned a lot about online tour in Reading. Can you say something about it?

T: Peter wants to write about how to use the website. Listen to a conversation and help him complete the notes.

1. Listen and answer

T: Sandy is asking Millie how to start an online tour. Listen to their conversation and answer two questions.

(1) How do we start an online tour of a city?

(2) If I want to see some pictures of the city, what should I do?

2. Underline useful sentences

T: Read the conversation and underline useful sentences.

Step 2 Practice

1. Create new conversations

T: Now it’s your turn to talk about how to use the website. You can talk to your partner about the problems you may have. If you want to find more information from the website, you can design some new icons.

  2. Describe your own online tour

    T: Plan an online trip to your favourite place, and then introduce the trip to your partner. You can use the passage in Part A3 as a model.

1. Write a short passage about your own online tour.

2. Recite the conversation in Part B.
