On a Sunday afternn, Kiana French was having fun fishing with her father and yunger sister, nt knwing the next minute, they wuld struggle nt t sink in the freezing water. Their 12-ft bat was taking in water little by little, and the wind was picking up. Kiana asked Cierrah t take ff ne f her cwby bts, with which she gt sme f the water ut. Hard as she tried, that little effrt wuld nt help stp the bat sinking. Mments later, the unthinkable happened. The bat was full f water and then it flipped ver. Kiana and her sister were dumped in the water. Their father, wh had had a surgery six mnths ag,managed nt t be thrwn int the water but seemed t have great pain in the chest due t the sudden change. Kiana quickly put n her life jacket and saw Cierrah's and her father's life jackets flating away. She reacted quickly t get them back and held her sister nt the bat. They were s far ut in the middle f the lake that they culd nt see the shre clearly. What's wrse,it was getting harder t stay abve the waves. Their father swam ver and hugged his tw girls, Cierrah crying silently.Kiana heard her belved sister murmured,"I can't feel my feet." Kiana knew the nly thing t d was t get t shre herself and find help. She lked up at her father, exchanging a cncerned glance, turned rund and swam as hard as she culd twards the shre. Fighting against the strng currents and cld wind, she screamed fr help at the tp f her lungs every three minutes r s. A strng wind blew, and she lked back nly t see her sister's and father's heads bbbing(浮动)in the water. She burst int tears, thinking her sister and dad were dead, because she was taking t lng.

Gifts fr Jace I’ll never frget the day that ne f my students shyly raised his hand and said that he had never received a gift. My shcked fifth-graders were discussing a reading stry abut a by wh was nt ging t be getting anything fr his birthday because mney was tight that year. Even thugh this class was very pen during reading discussins, Jace’s hnesty surprised even me. What was even mre eye-pening was the fact that this sweet, fifth-grade by had gne ten years and never experienced the jy and surprise f receiving a present. I searched my mind fr a reasn that he might be saying this. Did he want attentin frm his peers? N, that was definitely nt his style. Was he exaggerating(夸大)? Again, he was nt the type. Then I remembered his stry. His mther was ut f the picture and he lived alne with his dad. His father had a hard time hlding dwn a jb, and cming t think f it, I didn’t see his father at registratin r parent-teacher cnferences. Even thugh n the utside Jace was a bit untidy, he always came t schl with a smile and sincere enthusiasm fr learning. A cuple f weeks after Jace’s cmment, he was absent frm schl due t the fact that he had mved away. This happened t be the day I was sending hme the annual nte abut the classrm Christmas gifts exchange. Traditinally, each by was t bring a gift fr a by in the three-dllar range and the same was true fr each girl. As we were discussing the specifics, a girl raised her hand and sincerely suggested that we d away with ur traditinal plicy, and each buy a gift fr Jace instead. The enthusiasm grew as the students discussed the kinds f things they knew Jace wuld like. We tk a quick vte and cnsistently agreed t g ahead with this wnderful idea.Paragraph 1: Days befre ur Christmas vacatin, the gifts began t pur in. ____________Paragraph 2: As I drve dwn his rad, I saw a light flashing, signaling which hme was his._____________
下水文: Days befre ur Christmas vacatin, the gifts began t pur in. There were s many f them that I had t g back and frth several times t lad my car. My eyes fell n the gifts with ribbns tied in bws. Frtunately, he answered the phne and tld me his new address and hw t find his hme quickly. As I drve dwn his rad, I saw a light flashing, signaling which hme was his. I kncked n the dr and ut came the thin by wearing a big smile as he always did. I led him t my car, pened the trunk and said: “Surprise!” He was ttally rted t the spt, staring at the gifts and chcking ut in a trembling vice: “Are they all fr me?” “Yes! They are frm yur classmates.” I said firmly. He twisted his head t smile at me. At that time, I culd feel his jy thrugh his eyes shining like diamnds, which I wuld never frget in my life.
