    定语从句的恰当使用可将两个或多个意义松散的句子变为一个整体,使文章显得紧凑而富有美感。本节内容的目标是帮助同学们学会在写作中正确地运用定语从句。
    一、定语从句需注意的问题
    1.关系词的选用由先行词在从句中所作的成分决定:
    We can never frget the time that/which we spent tgether
    during the middle schl time.
    我们永远不会忘记在中学期间一起度过的时光。(作宾语)
    He came at a time when we needed him mst.
    他在我们最需要他的时候来了。(作状语)
    2.关系词所替代的成分在从句中不能重复出现:汤姆买的那本小说很有趣。
    The nvel which/that Tm bught it is interesting.(×)The nvel which/that Tm bught is interesting.(√)3.定语从句中的谓语与先行词要保持一致:
    I, wh am yur teacher, will try my best t help yu with yur
    我,作为你的老师,将会尽力帮助你学习英语。
    4.定语从句引导词 that, wh, which 等选用的特殊情况(详
    见 Unit 4“语法聚焦”)
    5.要弄清楚句子是并列句还是定语从句:他有两个孩子,他们都是当老师的。

    二、如何将简单句合并为定语从句
    将简单句合并为定语从句有三个步骤:第一,找出先行词;第二,确定主句、从句;第三,分析先行词在定语从句中的成分(作主语、宾语或状语),选择合适的关系词。如:
    The by was at Center Schl last year.He helped us a lt.
    步骤一:读两个句子,找出先行词。(先行词为 the by)步骤二:确定主句、从句。(前句为主句,后句为定语从句)步骤三:分析先行词在定语从句中作何成分,选用合适的关系词,然后将两个句子合并。(先行词 the by 在定语从句中作主语,指代人,则应用关系代词 wh/that)
    将两个句子合并为:The by wh/that helped us a lt was at
    Center Schl last year.
    三、Units 1-5 出现的定语从句句型
