    Successful peple in internatinal business understand the cultures f ther cuntries and learn t change their practices in different cultures. They understand the imprtance f aviding business decisins based n miscnceptins—mistaken ideas.
    One cause f miscnceptins is ethncentrism, the belief that ne's wn culture's way f ding things is better than the way f ther cultures. It's ethncentrism that leads t failure in internatinal business. T avid ethncentrism, it's necessary t study the different elements (组成部分) f culture:language, values and attitudes, and custms and manners.
    Language
    A knwledge f the lcal language can help internatinal business peple in fur ways. First, peple can cmmunicate directly.Secnd, peple are usually mre pen in their cmmunicatin with smene wh speaks their language. Third, an understanding f the language allws peple t infer meanings that are nt said directly.Finally, knwing the language helps peple t understand the culture better.
    Values and Attitudes
    Values are peple's basic beliefs abut the difference between right and wrng, gd and bad. An attitude is a way f thinking r acting. Values and attitudes influence internatinal business. Fr example,many peple in the United States believe that chclate frm Switzerland is better than chclate frm ther cuntries, and they buy a lt f it.
    Custms and Manners
    Custms are cmmn scial practices. Manners are ways f acting that the sciety believes are plite. Fr example, in the United States, it is the custm t have salad (色拉) befre the main curse at dinner, nt after. It's nt acceptable t talk with fd in muth at table. Failure t understand the custms and manners f ther cuntries will bring difficulty selling their prducts. Orange juice as a breakfast drink f an American cmpany in France desn't sell well because the French dn't usually drink juice with breakfast.
