    Welcome to Biscayne National Park
Biscayne is not very far from the lights and excitement of downtown Miami. But it has a very different atmosphere from the big city. Established as a national monument in 1968, Biscayne National Park includes the northern part of the world-famous Florida Keys which are low-lying islands or reefs.
    Biscayne National Park
If you enjoy water, Biscayne is the park for you. You will find the threatened huge, gentle West Indian manatee, the less gentle American crocodile, several kinds of sea turtles and over 500 species of fish. Four ecosystems come together here, which is what makes the park so diverse. The blending ecosystems create "edge communities."
    Human history
Human history at Biscayne begins more than 10, 000 years ago. Scientists say evidence of the area's earliest people is mostly underwater now and learn about these people by examining the hills of shells they left behind. As the population grew, it divided into separate cultures. The groups began making pottery and created trade networks. These Native Americans are called the Tequesta. The Tequesta depended on the rich food source of the sea to survive. They were not centered on farming and had more time than other natives for art and religion. The reefs and rough waters made it difficult for early explorers resulting in more than 50 shipwrecks. Scuba divers today can explore six of them.
    Exploring the park
Many visitors to Biscayne National Park choose to explore underwater. Guides lead snorkeling and scuba diving trips. At Boca Chita Key, visitors can explore a lighthouse, a symbol of Biscayne National Park built in the 1930s. But visitors to Biscayne National Park probably are not there to see skyscrapers and city lights. The beauty in Biscayne is quiet waters, rustling mangroves.
21、What is the feature of the ecosystem in the Biscayne National Park?
    A. The different species of the animals. B. The mixed biological communities.
    C. The low-lying islands or reefs. D. The clear and warm waters.
22、What can we know from the last two paragraphs?
    A. Human history dates back to more than 50, 000 years ago.
    B. The Native Americans prefer farming to fishing.
    C. Biscayne is a paradise for the water sports enthusiasts.
    D. Scuba divers today are to see skyscrapers and city lights.
23、Where is the text most probably taken from?
    A. A personal diary. B. geography textbook.
    C. A A travel magazine. D. A book review.
    B
A one-room studio atop a wooded hill on the southwest coast of Vancouver Island is where the magic happens for master luthier(拨弦乐器制作者) Reuben Forsland. He's a storyteller, only the stories he tells aren't made of words; they' re fashioned of wood and metal. Forsland spends his time building custom guitars-and the stories behind the instruments are just as important to him as the superb quality and sound of his creations.
Born and raised in central Alberta, Forsland has spent most of his life building things, ranging from custom furniture and houses to skateboards and surfboards. He became a professional luthier in 2014. The quality of Forsland's JOI Guitars has attracted interest from professional musicians, like Guns N'Roses guitarist Slash, who hired him to make a guitar.
Every custom guitar Reuben Forsland makes begins with conversations and connections. “The focus is to create a guitar that inspires the player to make an emotional and spiritual connection," said Forsland. For Slash's guitar,Forsland went to great lengths to find a source of inspiration. Once he found out Jimi Hendrix was one of Slash's heroes, Forsland spent six months tracking down Pete Sikov, the owner of the Seattle house Hendrix grew up in.“I asked Pete if he was open to the concept of using some of the wood from the house for Slash's guitar, and he was good with that,” said Forsland, who has since completed four guitars using some of that wood.
Forsland's focus these days is on making the world's first traditionally built guitar from hemp.wood(麻木),a wood material made from hemp fibres.“It absorbs four times more CO2 in its lifetime than the same area as a forest,”
Forsland said. He supports environmental sustainability with the same passion he brings to making guitars. That's why he chose Earth Day as the perfect time to launch his hemp wood guitar officially. “Although this guitar can't save the environment, it's a piece of the conversation about what can be created with a sustainable product in today's marketplace.”
24.Which word can best describe Forsland according to paragraph 2?
    A. Ambitious. B. Handy. C. Optimistic. D. Sporty.
25.What did Forsland build Slash' s guitar out of?
    A. Wood provided by Guns N' Roses.
    B. Wood from Jimi Hendrix's childhood home.
    C. Wood from Slash's Seattle house.
    D. Hemp wood donated by Pete Sikov.
    26. What do we know about Forsland's most recent creation?
    A. It is made from a sustainable material.
    B. It is an instant hit in the marketplace.
    C. It is used to celebrate Earth Day.
D.It is the first-ever traditionally built guitar.
27.What can be the best title for the text?
    A. Pay a visit to JOI Guitars
    B. Meet the world's best luthier
    C. Custom guitarsset the trends for musicians
    D. Each guitar the luthier makes tells a story
    C
Could a new treatment developed by the US company Lilly mean "the beginning of the end" of Alzheimer's(阿尔兹海默症)? Could we even cure it some day? These are headlines and questions swirling (流传) around after news of a new drug, called donanemab, showed promising results in phase -3 trials.
The brain science behind Alzheimer's is complex, but CT and MRI scans suggest that poisonous changes occur in the brain, including the abnormal buildup of proteins called amyloid plaques and tau tangles. The damage starts in the parts of the brain essential for forming memories but then spreads throughout the organ, with brain tissue shrinking significantly.
Developing treatments for Alzheimer's has been a challenge, with almost 20 years passing with no new drugs. But in the last year, two new ones have emerged: donanemab and lecanemab. Neither are cures or magic bullets for the disease, but they do address key symptoms. They target the amyloid proteins that can accumulate in the brain and damage neurons, slowing down its progression.
While this news is exciting, there are major caveats. One is whether it will ever become available on the NHS. The cost is estimated to be about £20, 000 per person per year of treatment.
Another is the serious side-effects: in the study, brain swelling occurred in 24% of participants and brain bleeding occurred in 31. 4% on the drug compared with 13. 6% in the placebo(安慰剂) group. There were also three deaths during the trial.
Part of the problem for me, as an academic, in assessing the drug is that the full results of the trial haven't yet been shared publicly or published in a peer-review journal. We cannot access the full data or examine the trial yet, and there is always a motivation for private companies to overstate the effectiveness of new drugs. Trial results need to be assessed by an independent body of experts.
While it is unlikely to change clinical practice until at least 2025, the news of donanemab is again an indication that science is continuing to make progress when it comes to treating the major causes of illness and death, even one related to the highly complex inner workings of the brain. So, there are caveats and the need for caution, but these new drugs are indeed the grounds for that rare thing these days: hope.
28、What can we learn about Alzheimer from the passage?
    A. It is caused by the accumulation of some proteins in the brain.
    B. Most people will develop Alzheimer when they are old.
    C. There exists a new drug to cure it completely.
    D. It results from the loss of memories as people get older.
29、What does the underlined word "caveats" mean in paragraph 4?
    A. Weaknesses. B. Discussions. C. Debates. D. Warnings.
30、What is the problem of the new drug according to the author as an academic?
    A. The effectiveness may be blown up without fair assessment.
    B. It has the serious side-effects such as brain bleeding and deaths.
    C. The cost of the new drug is out of reach for ordinary people.
    D. There is no possibility for new drugs to be admitted into the NHS.
31、What is the author's attitude towards the new drug?
    A. Approving. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear. D. Indifferent.
    D
Nuclear bombs. That’s the go-to answer for incoming space objects like asteroids (小行星) and comets as far as Hollywood is concerned. Movies like Deep Impact and Armageddon rely on nuclear weapons, delivered by stars like Bruce Willis, to save the world and deliver the drama.
But planetary defense experts say in reality, if astronomers spotted a dangerous in-coming space rock, the safest and best answer might be something more subtle, like simply pushing it off course by crashing it with a small spacecraft.
That’s just what NASA did on Monday evening, when a spacecraft headed straight into anasteroid called Dimorphos, which is around 7 million miles away and poses no threat to Earth. It’s about 525 feet across and orbits another larger asteroid.
In images streamed (传输) as the crash neared, the egg-shaped asteroid grew in size from a little spot on screen to have its full rocky surface come quickly into focus before the signal went dead as the craft hit right on target.
Events happened exactly as engineers had planned, they said, with nothing going wrong. “As far as we can tell, our first planetary defense test was a success,” said Elena Adams, the mission systems engineer, who added that scientists looked on with “both terror and joy” as the spacecraft neared its final destination.
The crash was the peak of NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART), a 7-yearand more than $300 million effort which launched a space vehicle in November of 2021 to perform humanity’s first-ever test of planetary defense technology. It will be about two months, scientists said, before they will be able to determine if the crash was enough to drive the asteroid slightly off course, probably shortening its original orbit.
NASA plans to launch an asteroid-hunting space telescope named NEO Surveyor in 2026. “We’ve tracked lots of space rocks, especially the larger ones that could cause extinction-level events. Thankfully, none currently threaten Earth. But many asteroids the size of Dimorphos haven’t yet been discovered, and those could potentially take out a city if they came crashing down,” explains Lindley Johnson, NASA’s Planetary Defense Officer.
32、Why does the author mention the movies?
    A. To make a prediction. B. To provide a possibility.
    C. To introduce the topic. D. To make a comparison.
33、What can we infer from the passage?
A.. Dimorphos could cause extinction-level events.
    B. The 7-year program has drawn a conclusion.
    C. NEO Surveyor has tracked lots of space rocks.
    D. NASA pushed Dimorphos by crashing .
34、Which statement does Lindley Johnson most possibly agree with?
    A. Larger asteroids will not be a threat to Earth.
    B. NASA should shoulder the responsibility for the crash.
    C. NEO Surveyor is expected to discover asteroids the size of Dimorphos.
    D. Asteroids like Dimorphos are more destructive than other larger ones.
35、What is the best title of the passage?
    A. An intentional crash in space
    B. A threat to Earth from asteroids
    C. The contribution to space safety
    D. The impact of planetary defense technology

Sandro was born and grew up in Milan. Until he was 13 years old, he never wanted to leave his hometown. But last year, Sandro's father's investment went bad, wiping out the family and sending his parents to prison. As a teenager under 16 years old, Sandro was forced to go to Newcastle in the northeast of England to stay with his uncle Lawrence.
Sandro had a lot of difficulties in the new environment. He didn't like the food in England. Nobody could forecast the weather in Newcastle. He had to start learning the second foreign language in his new school. Pocket money was not enough as usual. Almost every subject was a challenge for him. Most importantly, he had no friends. It seemed nobody knew him and he knew nobody in the school.
On an early summer evening, when Sandro was going home alone from school as usual, a man called him from behind. Sandro turned around and saw Eddie, his PE teacher, standing in front of him.
"You know, the school will have a swimming competition next month. There will be all kinds of races. Will you participate?" Eddie asked.
Sandro took a look at Eddie with doubt and answered, "You sure? Me? No. I won't. I can swim, but I'm slower than a snail. "
Eddie smiled and then said, "Yes. Indeed. You are, in breaststroke(蛙泳), in backstroke, and in butterfly, but not in freestyle. So join the freestyle race! 200-meter freestyle is the game suitable for you. ”
Sandro was speechless at that moment. He had never known someone in the school was observing him and caring for him.
"I don't think I can win anything. ” Sandro was still a little puzzled.
"But you may get more recognition and consequently you can make some friends. That is more important than prizes. ” Eddie responded immediately.
Having hesitated for a while, Sandro agreed to have a try.

    作文二
    Paragraph 1
Every afternoon for the next month. Sandro trained really hard. Starting position, starting dive, turning, pushing off, touching the timing pad, all details, he practiced them over and over. Whenever he was exhausted. Eddie's words echoed in his mind and supplied extra energy to him. "Maybe I can't be the champion of the game, but I can be the champion for myself." He spoke in a low mumble to himself after he finished the last training. Finally, the day of competition arrived. With the sound of the starting gun piercing through the air, the race began as expected.
    Paragraph 2
Sandro dived into the pool confidently like other competitors. He swam as freely as a fish. 150 meters covered, he was left behind by 2 competitors. In the last 50 meters, Sandro swam magnificently, with his arms pushing forward fast, his legs hitting the water hard. Finally, the championship was still out of his reach. When the result was announced that Sandro won third place. However, other players congratulated him, the audience in the stadium bursting into thunderous applause. As teacher Eddie said, he won the recognition and respect from others, with his effort.
    解析:
    33、答案:D
解析:推理判断题。文章第二段讲到“But planetary defense experts say in reality, if astronomers spotted a dangerous in- coming space rock, the safest and best answer might be something more subtle, like simply pushing it off course by crashing it with a small spacecraft. (但行星防御专家表示,事实上,如果天文学家发现了一块即将到来的危险太空陨石,最安全、最好的答案可能是更微妙的事情,比如用一艘小型航天器将其撞击,使其偏离轨道。)”可知,我们能从文章中推断出美国国家航空航天局通过撞击推动了Dimorphos。故选D。
    34、答案:C
解析:推理判断题。文章最后一段讲到“We’ve tracked lots of space rocks, especially the larger ones that could cause ex- tinction-level events. Thankfully, none currently threaten Earth. But many asteroids the size of Dimorphos haven’t yet been discovered, and those could potentially take out a city if they came crashing down. (我们已经追踪到了许多太空陨石,尤其是那些可能引发爆炸级事件的较大陨石。幸运的是,目前没有一颗威胁地球。但许多Dimorphos大小的小行星尚未被发现,如果它们坠落,可能会摧毁一座城市。)”可知,根据最后一段Lindley Johnson的观点最有可能是近地天体勘测者可能会发现Dimorphos大小的小行星。
    35、答案:A
解析:主旨大意题。文章主要介绍了美国国家航空和宇宙航行局(NASA)的行星防御专家实施的行星防御测试,利用小型航天器与一块即将到来的危险太空陨石撞击,使太空陨石偏离轨道。文章第二段讲到“But planetary defense experts say in reality, if astronomers spotted a dangerous in- coming space rock, the safest and best answer might be something more subtle, like simply pushing it off course by crashing it with a small spacecraft.
