An 11yearold boy has become a hero since his quick thinking saved two lives. Davyon Johnson helped save a choking classmate and a woman attempting to escape a fire. On Dec. 8, 2021 the Muskogee County Sheriff's Department honored Johnson for his heroics at a meeting. At the event, Undersheriff Greg Martin gave the sixthgrader a certificate naming him an honorary deputy for the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office. “We are all so proud of you, Johnson!” wrote the sheriff's office in a post on Facebook on Dec. 14,2021.
The Muskogee Public Schools recognized Davyon Johnson during the meeting on Tuesday. Principal Latricia Dawkins considered Johnson a hero in an interview. “He always says that he wants to be an emergency medical technician. So he put that desire into action and immediately saved that young man,” Dawkins said, adding that Johnson “is just a kind soul and liked by students and teachers”.
The first incident happened during the school day. Johnson jumped into action after one of his classmates accidentally swallowed a water bottle cap and was choked (窒息) by it after attempting to unscrew (拧开) it with his mouth. Johnson immediately ran to the child and performed the Heimlich maneuver. Dawkins said, “From the account of the witnesses, when he did it, the bottle cap came out.” Johnson said he learned how to do the Heimlich maneuver on YouTube, and suggested others do the same.
Johnson's heroism didn't end there. After school, during the day after he saved his classmate, Johnson spotted a woman attempting to escape from a burning home. He quickly realized the worried woman was moving slowly and ran across the street to help her. “She was a disabled lady and being a good citizen, I should help her leave,” Johnson said.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has become especially important as our daily life and business have become more complex, from bill payment to healthcare issues, where we have gradually explored deeper into finding solutions to improving the effectiveness of processes.
According to a report by GlobalData, the global IoT market will reach up to 1.1 trillion dollars by 2024, with an annual growth rate of 13% during that period. Therefore, this area will play an important role in maintaining competition among companies.
The IoT is a digital interconnection of everyday objects with the Internet. The IoT allows systems to be remotely sensed and controlled through the existing network. This enables greater integration (融合) between the physical world and computerbased systems, which represents greater efficiency and costeffectiveness.
Among the main applications of the technology are cost optimization (最优化) for industrial and transportation companies through remote monitoring of devices and vehicles, data collection for realtime production analysis, and tracking of final cargo (货物) delivery.
Other IoT applications are wearables, which are a set of electronic devices that are incorporated (合并) into some part of our body interacting continuously between us and other devices. Wearables represent the boom of the last few years, as they register what we eat, our heart rate, warn us if we are sick or stressed. They come in the form of smartwatches and GPSenabled running shoes, to name a few.
On the other hand, the healthcare sector is also undergoing changes brought about by the IoT. The medical sensors market is expected to reach a turnover of $ 27.7 billion in 2026 with a growth over the next few years of 9.9% according to Transparency Market Research.
In this sense, IoT has come with a promise for people in their daily lives but also for investors, who consider it an excellent opportunity to invest. IoT will increase the productivity of companies, in addition to progressing towards the growth of telecommunications, data analysis and the arrival of intelligent machines.
28.What do we know about the IoT?
A.It has limited applications. B.It is a highly promising industry.
C.It makes daily life more complex. D.It makes companies less competitive.
29.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.The definition of IoT. B.The development of IoT.
C.The origin of IoT. D.The inventors of IoT.
    30.What can wearables do?
A.They can relieve stress. B.They can treat the disease.
C.They can instruct what to eat. D.They can closely monitor health.
31.Why is the IoT popular to companies?
    A.It controls cargo delivery remotely.
B.It brings a rapid growth for companies.
C.It improves the efficiency of companies.
    D.It encourages interaction among companies.

“Rick, I'm sorry to say that your mom's health is failing,” Doctor Carter said over the phone.
“What?” Rick panicked. “But my mom was okay until last week. How could it happen?”
“We had also thought she was improving, but her body is no longer responding to the treatment. In fact, I don't think she has much time, so I have to inform you,” Mr. Carter said before hanging up.
Rick's heart dropped to the ground. His mom was dying, and he had to get to her. Rick dropped everything and got into his car immediately.
To see his mom as soon as possible, Rick chose a shorter path through the freeway that would help him get there faster. Unfortunately, he completely ignored the fuel indicator—which implied that his car was about to run out of gas—until he was already on the highway with no one in sight. He managed to park the car by the side of the road.
Rick checked his phone for the nearest fuel station, and it was miles away. However, he noticed a convenience store nearby. It wasn't a long walk, so he decided to ask for help there.
When he arrived there 15 minutes later, he saw two men exiting the store. He quickly went up to them. “Hey, man,” he said. “Could you spare me some of your gas? I'm on my way to see my mother. She's sick, but my car ran out of gas.”
The two men exchanged a quick glance and said, “Sorry. We're in a hurry and we can't help your mom.”
Rick was at a loss. He entered the convenience store and asked several people for help, but it didn't take them long to turn him down. He was anxious at this point, terrified that he would never see his mom again. He walked out of the store, feeling helpless.

W:Teddy, you play the lead role on InnerCity Doctors, the popular new TV show. How do you like it?
M:Well, it's great, Barbara, just great. When I first read the story, I knew I couldn't miss out on this special show.
W:And now TV audiences are popular with these doctors' stories.
M:Right. And the show deals with some big topics. Well, I'll tell you what. We'll have a sad event soon. My character is told that he gets a cancer.
W:Oh, no. And just after he gets engaged?
M:Yes. My character learns that life and something people take for granted is very precious.
W:A good lesson for a doctor! Well, we're out of time. Thanks!
    M:Bye!
    Text 9
W:Professor Jones, you're wellknown in town as a professor of mathematics at the City College. We're writing about what professional people do in their spare time for our paper. May I ask you a few questions about your favorite hobby?
M:Sure, I love discussing my hobby with people. I'm a coin collector.
W:How long have you been collecting coins?
M:Since I was 12 years old. My uncle gave me a book with spaces to put coins into.
    W:How did your interest grow?
M:I filled that book and continued to look at the coins that passed through my hands, searching for rare and old ones.
W:Where do you find the coins for your collection?
M:Sometimes in my pocket change, but usually I buy them from other collectors or trade for others.
W:What does your collection consist of now?
M:I have over 5,000 valuable coins which have doubled in value.
W:You seem very businesslike in your hobby.
M:Well, do you think so? But my hobby is mainly based on interest.
W:Thank you for the answers, Professor Jones. I think people will like to read about your hobby.
    Text 10
In many countries now the drivers and front passenger are told to wear seat belts. Most doctors believe that seat belts save people from being seriously hurt in an accident. But there are some people who still think that it is more dangerous to wear a seat belt than not to wear one. They say that a seat belt may trap one in a car that is burning, or that has fallen into a river or the sea and is sinking.
But less than half of car accidents lead to fire or sinking, and in any case, a seat belt may easily save a person from being killed. He or she is able to undo the seat belt immediately and get out of the car that is on fire or sinking.
Some people who are against seat belts also sometimes say that without one, one may be thrown right out of a car if an accident happens. But doctors will tell you that is the last thing one wants to happen: if one is thrown out of a car, one hits something, usually the road, and usually hard and at a high speed. So it is better to remain inside in the case of an accident.
Now, I hope you can see why it is necessary to wear a seat belt.

    Deareveryone,
Congratulations on the tenth anniversary of English club. I feel honoured to have the chance to witness this great moment with all of you.
I joined the club last year as a freshman, from which I benefited a lot both academically and interpersonally. It was here that I met many likeminded friends. Of all the activities, I like English debate best. Not only does it challenge me intellectually, but it also sharpens my debating skills.
I hope more speech contests will be held in order that we can improve our English. May more students join our club.
    That'sall. Thankyou!
