A farmer grew some vegetables in his garden. One day his wife was ill and he had no money. He had to sell some cabbages and carrots in the market. The next morning he took two baskets of vegetables to town. But it was raining hard that afternoon and there were few people in the street. When his vegetables were sold out, it was dark. He bought some medicine and hurried to his village.
On his way home he saw a person lying on the snow. He placed his baskets on the ground and was going to help the person to get up. At that time he found it was a dead man and there was much blood on his body. He was so afraid that he ran away quickly, without taking the baskets with him.
The next afternoon the farmer was sent to the police station. Having shown the baskets, an officer asked, "Are these yours" "Yes, sir." the farmer answered timidly(胆怯地). "Have you killed the man" "No, no, sir." the farmer said in a hurry. "When did you see the dead man" "About seven last evening." "Did you see who killed the man" "No, sir." The officer brought out a knife and asked, "Have you seen it yet" "No, sir." The officer became angry and told the policemen to beat him up and sent him into prison. the officer wanted to trap the farmer into the confession(供认), but the farmer didn't admit he was the murderer.

Boys like to be considered to be brave, but what kind of things can be considered to be brave? It is not a question that can be answered by words, but by the actual deed. A boy with the name Henry gave us a good example. Ronny and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day as Ronny and Henry were going home after school, they saw some people fighting in the street corner. Ronny said excitedly, “Some people are fighting! Let's go and have a look!” But Henry refused, “It's none of our business. We'd better go home and don't get close to them. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don't want them to worry about me.”
“You are a coward, and afraid to go,” said Ronny, and off he ran to the spot with some other boys. Henry had to go home alone and didn't think about it anymore.
But Ronny thought Henry was a coward and told all the boys that. They laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn't want to play with him.
Henry was sad but he wasn't angry with Ronny for his rude behavior, because he had learned that true courage was shown most in bearing misunderstanding when it was not deserved, and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys' laughter and continued to stick to his thought and go to school and study as well. However, Ronny didn't invite Henry to go home with him anymore. Instead, he had his new friends who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn't go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had lots of fun.

    Paragraph 1:
A few days later, something terrible happened to Ronny.

    Paragraph 2:
At that moment, Henry happened to pass by.

    Paragraph 1
A few days later, something terrible happened to Ronny. That afternoon after school, Ronny was bathing with some of his new friends in the river happily. Suddenly, he was stuck in the mud and couldn't get out. He struggled hard but he was still trapped. He screamed for help, but all in vain. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could. They were so scared and did not even try to help him.
    Paragraph 2:
At that moment, Henry happened to pass by. He heard the screams and ran to the river as soon as possible. Seeing Ronny was almost drowned, Henry took off his clothes immediately and jumped into the water without any hesitation. He reached Ronny just as he was sinking the last time. With great effort, and with much danger to himself, he brought Ronny to the shore in time. Henry was happy to help his friend, though he was extremely tired.

Brady was a recently retired search and rescue dog. He was not happy and missed his owner Al because Al had gone out on a rescue mission without him. Al’s nephew Steve took Brady along when he and his friend Zach went on a overnight hike. But suddenly Steve and Zach smelled something burning and they realized that lightning had set the woods on fire.Wind-blown flame had leaped from the top of one tree to another. The long dry summer had turned the forest into a tinderbox(火绒箱) and the thunderstorm wasn’t helping much. It had more wind and lightning than rain. Zach pulled Steve’ s arm. “Let’s go! We can make it back to the river we crossed today.” Steve pulled Brady’s leash(皮带) and their heads down against the strong fire-wind, they hurried down the path they had followed earlier. The air was full of smoke, and pine branches broke from burning trees with a crisp sound. Steve kept his eyes on the route. All they had to do was to make it down to the river…
Brady barked a sharp warning. Ahead of them lay a dense curtain of smoke across the path. They’d never make it through that. They would have to find another escape route. The dog was pulling at his leash trying to draw them away from the smoke. This was what Brady was trained to do, and yet Steve was uneasy. It seemed to him they were moving away from the river.
Brady lifted his head and smelled the smoky wind. Suddenly, the dog ran away and disappeared. The boys yelled and shouted for him,but he didn’t come back.
They had no choice but to leave him behind. Heartsick, Steve and Zach went up a slope(斜坡). He couldn’t blame Brady for panicking and escaping. He himself wanted to run even though he didn’t have a clue which way. They hadn’t gone far when there was a familiar bark, and Brady came running toward him.

    Paragraph1:
    “Where’ve you been?” Steve cried.

    Paragraph 2:
Brady led them back down the slope and into the trees.

    Paragraph 1
“Where've you been?"Steve cried Brady stopped directly in front of him and started pushing him back toward the slope they’d just climbed. When Steve still didn’t get it, Brady grabbed the boy's jeans and pulled harder. The message was clear, but Steve hesitated. Of course he remembered what his uncle had said about Brady saving his life, but that had been a long time ago. Was he still sharp enough to get them through this? Brady pulled again, urgently, “0K,big guy,” Steve decided...
    Paragraph 2
Brady led them back down the slope and into the trees. Several times the big dog stopped to get his escape route. Often he changed direction. How long they’d walked Steve had no idea. He just held onto Brady’s leash with one hand and kept putting one foot in front of the other. He was almost numb when he heard the wonderful sound of rushing water. The river! With a yell the boys ran unsteadily forward until they jumped in cool, running water. “Brady, you did it!”

Grady and his family go camping every summer. As it was becoming hotter, here came the camping time.
Having planned the camp long, the family finally decided the destination --- the Great National Forest. With food, necessity and cookers loaded onto the car, the family squeezed into the car. The car door closed, heat was shut outside.
In the car, Jared, Grady's younger brother was playing with a toy dinosaur, making great noise. Grady's mother talked excitedly with his father. On settling in the car, Grady put on the earphone and turned on the music. He neither wanted to join his brother nor joined any talk. After what seemed to be hours, the car stopped where they headed. Grady threw down his backpack and slammed the car door.
“This will be a lengthy week,“ he said unhappily to no one in particular. He looked around the campground. Hundreds of tall and green fir trees, some as tall as church towers, covered the mountainside like a green carpet. The sun would be setting soon. Grady thought maybe the heat wouldn't be unbearable. But actually now in the mountain, the hot stickiness of July was closely attached to him.
Grady hated camping, but it was something his family stuck to every summer. His father liked cooking over an open air, telling stories about how to survive things like bear attacks and bites of bees. His mother and Jared liked to hike and take pictures of animals. Jared had a collection of bug pictures that he had pinned to the walls in his half of their room. Grady thought they were just scary and proof that Jared was a strange kid.
They set up camp - two tents, one for his parents and one for himself and Jared. While everyone else started preparing dinner, Grady, looking for some place to cool down, set off for the nearby stream, which was deep enough to swim in.
    注意:
    1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
As Grady got close to the stream, an adorable bear cub (幼崽)caught his eye.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Turning around, he saw an angry bear moving swiftly towards him.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As Grady got close to the stream, an adorable bear cub caught his eye. Though Grady didn’t like animals, he couldn’t resist such a lovely bear cub measuring no more than two feet tall with a cute face. It was playing pretty joyfully at the edge of the stream. So absorbed was the bear cub in playing that it wasn’t aware that someone was approaching. Driven by curiosity, Grady walked on tiptoe, moving closer to have a look at it. Suddenly he heard a sound behind him.
Turning around, he saw an angry bear moving swiftly towards him. Shocked and dumb, Grady was rooted onto the ground for seconds, and then dashed to their camp desperately, shouting for help in the meantime. Fortunately, Grady’s father heard the shout in time to come to his assistance. To their surprise, realizing the danger was away, the furry giant stopped chasing and returned to the stream, picking up her baby, and holding it in arms tightly. In the distance, attracted by the noise, Jared and his mother were trying to take a photo of the bear cub and its mother.

A funny thing happened to Arthur when he was on the way to work one day. As he walked along Park Avenue near the First National Bank,he heard the sound of someone trying to start a car. He tried again and again but couldn’t get the car moving. Arthur turned and looked inside at the face of a young man who looked worried. Arthur stopped and asked,“It looks like you’ve got a problem,” Arthur said.
“I’m afraid so. I’m in a big hurry and I can’t start my car.”
“Is there something I can do to help?” Arthur asked. The young man looked at the two suitcases in the back seat and then said,“Thanks. If you’re sure it wouldn’t be too much trouble, you could help me get these suitcases into a taxi.”
“No trouble at all. I’d be glad to help.”
The young man got out and took one of the suitcases from the back seat. After placing it on the ground,he turned to get the other one. Just as Arthur picked up the first suitcase and started walking,he heard the long loud noise of an alarm.
It was from the bank. There had been a robbery(抢劫)!
Park Avenue had been quiet a moment before. Now the air was filled with the sound of the alarm and the shouts of people running from all directions. Cars stopped and the passengers joined the crowd in front of the bank. People asked each other,“What happened?” But everyone had a different answer.
Arthur, still carrying the suitcase, turned to look at the bank and walked right into the young woman in front of him.
She looked at the suitcase and then at him. Arthur was surprised. “Why is she looking at me like that?” He thought. “The suitcase! She thinks I’m the bank thief!”
Arthur looked around at the crowd of people. He became frightened, and without another thought,he started to run.

    Paragraph 1:

I have a case to report to the police;the man shouting behind is the bank thief!” The taxi raced away to the Police Station like an arrow.
The taxi stopped in front of the Police Station and Arthur said to the police who had been waiting and who had already received the robbery report,“This suitcase is that of the bank robber. It may be filled with the money stolen from the bank. I hand it to you. Please get ready to arrest the man.”

    An Unusual Day
“Usual boring day!” This would be the answer from Roman if somebody asks him how his day was. These days he found everything boring and nothing excited him.
When he went into the living room,it was dark. His young brother was playing with his friend. They were rolling on the floor. He was looking for a TV remote, but couldn’t find it.He looked at his brother who was still lying on the floor playing.
He asked him,“Where is the remote?”
“Under the sofa,” his brother yelled.
He tried to look through, but it was dark as well as narrow. He put his hand under the sofa,he touched something, and grabbed it and took his hand out.OMG!It was a snake in his hand!
After seeing that his brother started to yell,“Snake, snake!”His friend also accompanied him on shouting.Mom came as_soon_as she heard their shouting. She was too horrified to see a snake. She was so scared that she even couldn’t speak a word.
She was trying to say something, but was only able to make a sigh. Two kids were trying to hide into each other’s back.“What an old trick!” Roman thought and grabbed the snake and threw it over the kids.
As the snake landed on the floor near the kids, they yelled even more. Now the snake started moving from left side to the right.Only then did Roman realize that the snake was real, not a fake one.He threw the snake over the kids because he thought it was a fake snake and the kids were playing some tricks.
This time mom almost got heart attack. Then he realized what a big mistake he had committed. Now he was scared too.The kids were about to faint with fear, while mom was paralyzed with horror. The snake was only 10 meters away from the kids and it was gazing at them. They even couldn’t call a rescue_team.There was not much time to think.

    Paragraph 1:
As Roman was in farther from the snake,he jumped to the window.
    ________________________________________________________________________
    ________________________________________________________________________
    Paragraph 2:
Later,he called the rescue team from his cell phone.

As Roman was in farther from the snake,he jumped to the window. At the same time Roman grabbed the curtain and so hard did he pull it that the curtain ended up landing in his hand. Then without waiting a second,he threw the curtain over the snake. When the snake came under the curtain,he grabbed the two kids by their hand sand brought them out of the room. The kids ran for their life and reached at the front yard within a second. He again went inside taking his mom to the front yard.Mom was shaking like a leaf and the kids were sweating hard.
Later,he called the rescue team from his cell phone.As_soon_as the rescue_team arrived, they caught the snake and took it along with them,so they could handover the snake to the concerned organization.Mom got to normal once the snake was caught, but the kids were still scared.Roman was feeling bad and was angry with himself. His heart beat fast at the thought what worse would have happened if he couldn’t do anything. “Fortunately, everything goes well,” he said to himself,“What an unusual day!”

On July 8,2017,eight members of a family in total, were enjoying an evening together at the beach in Panhandle,Florida. As the sun sank lower on the horizon, the two boys Noah,11,and Stephen,8—swam into the waves without the grown-ups noticing.Soon they realized that the ocean had pulled them into the sea. After trying and failing to swim back, they started waving and screaming for help. But the lifeguards had been off duty for the evening.
The boys had been struggling for several minutes when Jacky and Tabatha,a couple from Georgia, heard them. They dived into the water and soon reached the two brothers. But after a few minutes, they were all trapped in a rip current(离岸流)—a powerful one that could sweep even the strongest swimmer out to sea! By then, some teenagers had heard the cry.One of the teens rushed into the water, grabbed Jacky, and pulled him back to shore.Meanwhile,Tabatha could feel herself being pulled farther out.She was already exhausted and beginning to feel desperate as she was trying to save both boys alone.
Onshore,Jacky was terrified.A man stopped.“What’s wrong?”asked Shaun, who was heading back to his car.“My wife is drowning!”Brittany said.Shaun immediately strode(大步跨)into the water. But several minutes later,a gaping 15 feet still lay between him and Tabatha and the boys.He knew that if he continued,he’d become another victim. He turned around to seek help.
It was about that time that Roberta, the boys’mother, returned from the bathroom and looked around for her children. She was shocked to spot them floating much farther out than they were allowed to go.She fought the waves to get to her screaming sons and the stranger who was trying to save them, but she quickly discovered it was nearly impossible to make headway in any direction.Looking around,Roberta sighed with relief to see some more people coming to help.

    Paragraph 1

    Paragraph 2
By then, more swimmers had also noticed the group in trouble and rushed to join the human chain. _________
    _______________________________________________________________________________

    Paragraph 1
When they tried in vain to rescue the brothers and Tabatha,a risky idea came to them.To keep themselves from losing their footing in the rip current, they began holding on to one another to form a human chain extending from the beach all the way out to the struggling and Tabatha. They stayed linked tightly and managed to ensure they were safe by making their feet firmly planted in the sand. However, that required more links—probably dozens of them.Shaun spotted other swimmers on the beach and shouted,“Don’t just stand there! Come and help.”
    Paragraph 2
By then, more swimmers had also noticed the group in trouble and rushed to join the human chain. One by one, link by link, total strangers walked into the waves and grasped one another by the wrists, determined that no one would die on that beach. At last, they made it and Tabatha and the two brothers were saved! “Those people on the beach are angels on earth,”said Roberta.“Whether it is the first person or the last person in the chain, they are all our heroes, who helped get our family out of trouble.

One Sunday last year, eight of us hiked for a couple of hours through the desert near San Diego to reach Thunder_Canyou_Cave. We had to go through a waterfall to get inside, so we put on our wetsuits and lowered ourselves 30ft down. By 11:00 am we were inside. After we climbed further, we reached a nineinch crack (裂缝). Having moved for four hours, I was tired and wet.
The group leader, Luca,_was guiding three cavers. One of them, Steve, in his 50s, got stuck in the crack. There was 10 minutes of pulling and pushing until Steve was free. He was tired and needed to leave. Luca, assuming I'd been through the crack before, guided Steve through the cave for another 15 minutes to an exit. I was second from last to go through. I didn't realize that Luca wasn't there—if I'd known, I wouldn't have attempted the crack, as I needed an experienced guide.
The challenge is to put your feet first down the length of the crack, and then move your body sideways to swing along, before dropping five feet to the floor of the next space. On my first attempt, I knew I wouldn't make_it through, but the group encouraged me to try again. I didn't want to inconvenience anyone by having to make the long trip back through the cave, so I backed out and took off my wetsuit. In just my Tshirt, I tried to slide through again but my hips (屁股)were trapped. My feet were hanging on the other side and my left arm supported my body. My hand rested on a wooden board that had been left covering rocks to protect cavers from slipping. Luca returned and the team tried everything to help me as I mentally focused on escape.
After two hours my arm weakened, so I slid further into the crack, where the gap was only eight and a half inches wide. My body weight was on my left elbow (肘), my back and chest touching the cold stone walls. The guy behind me, Jim,_tried unsuccessfully to pull me back. Of course, I was blocking his escape, too.

With the risk of the low body temperature, the group supplied me with jackets and bags.I was told to keep moving but I could only raise my right arm slightly and look up or down. But I wasn't prepared to give up either.

    Paragraph 2:
After eight hours, Luca found the rescue team. Thirty minutes later, the rescue team arrived. They lifted the board near my head to move me so I could leave the crack. As they began to pull my feet,_the walls painfully squeezed. But I asked them to continue. They finally helped me get out of the gap. When I was released I was truly pleased with freedom. After resting for a while, I climbed out of the cave. Afterwards, I was sent to a nearby hospital.

The rain came down steady and hard. Jason Storie heard it but was not worried as he prepared for a day of caving with five friends in a remote spot 80 miles northwest of his home in Duncan, on Canada’s Vancouver Island.
It was 6 a.m. on December 5, 2015. As a newcomer to the sport, Jason had gone caving only four times. This would be his toughest outing yet: a cave called Cascade. It was dangerous enough that the entrance was blocked by a locked metal door to keep the casual cavers out. About a mile long and 338 feet deep,Cascade was full of tums and barely passable tight squeezes.
Jason was new among the group, with the least experience and, at 43, older by a decade or more. It was his friend Andrew Munoz, 33, who introduced him to the sport. Unlike Jason,Andrew was an expert caver-a former caving guide, actually.
They hiked a bit before coming to the door, which sat in the ground—you’d miss it if you weren’t looking for it. It was 10 a.m. With their way lighted by headlamps, they walked down a narrow passage studded with sharp rocks. The silence was broken by a drip-drip-drip from above. Soon the drip turned into a light but steady flow, and they were wading in water up to their ankles, then to their shins.
Two hours later, they approached one of the features that made the cave unique: a narrow passage not big enough to stand up in that led into a short, tight downhill. This had a name: Bastard’s Crawl. Four streams met here, and indeed, the water was flowing more quickly. The sound of the water had turned into a roar. When they finally neared the top of the Crawl, there were barely four inches of air left between the water and the ceiling. not enough for them to keep their heads up to breathe. They came to terrifying realization that they were in danger!

    Paragraph 2:
Slowly but steadily, the group made their way forward. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The water kept rising, and there was no hope of rescue. The hours passed. Jason and Andrew didn’t dare to move for fear of slipping. They dozed off and then jerked themselves awake. Every once in a while, one of them turned on his headlamp to check the water level. An hour later, the water level went down enough that they could try an escape. Stiff from keeping in one position for 12 hours, they slowly unfolded their bodies. Jason screamed in pain, but he was determined not to let it stop him.
Slowly but steadily, the group made their way forward. Still, each time Jason moved a leg, he cried out. Over the next 90 minutes, they made their way toward the entrance, at times in chest-high water. Now, in a passage that was high enough for them to walk upright, Jason saw something flicker in the distance. “Lights! I see lights!” Jason shouted out. For the first time since entering the cave, over 20 hours earlier, Jason’s emotions got the best of him and tears trickled down his cheeks.
It was 7 a.m. on 12 May 1998.Mohr had already scanned several packages listing dangerous materials aboard the train. The presence of gas would mean taking extra precaution when braking the 6,200-ton train. With explosive gas on board, it would be disastrous if the train came off the track. After a final inspection, Mohr jumped aboard. He was heading east, into a sun that promised a beautiful day for their 276-km run to Peru, Indiana.
At around noon that day, Marshall prepared to tackle some yardwork. It was a beautiful day for it, she thought, gazing past the houses across the street. Some 45 meters away, railroad tracks shone in the sun.
Marshall began working in a patch (地块) of soil. Sitting next to her, cheerfully running her hands through dirt, was her 19-month-old daughter, Emily. For a while, she kept turning to check on Emily, who played close at hand. Eventually, though, Marshall's absorption in her work became total.
Mohr approached the town where Marshall lived at about 1:45 p.m. and slowed the train to the 40-kmph speed limit. He activated the flashing lights and warning bell. Mohr had been through the town hundreds of times, but he grew extra cautious rounding the first curve.
As the train came out of the curve, Mohr noticed a small dot on the track about 200 meters ahead. He thought it might be a dog. Although it was against the rules to do so in the town, he began lightly tapping his horn. "Come on, puppy, move," he urged.
The toots (嘟嘟响) of a train whistle startled (使受惊吓) Marshall from her yardwork. That's odd, she thought. They don't usually blow the whistle through town. She glanced over to check her daughter, and her heart skipped. Emily was nowhere in sight.
Now, as the train approached within 100 meters of the object on the rail, Mohr narrowed his eyes, trying to make out what exactly was lying ahead. Then shock ran through him like electric current.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Para 1
"My God!" he yelled as a tiny face turned towards him. “It's a baby!" Mohr had an instant decision to make, applying full emergency brakes with half the train still wrapped around a curve. He had to risk an emergency stop. Hard as he try, the train kept moving just as a cat saw a fish, whose enticing smell attracted the cat to approach the baby.Meanwhile, Marshall rushed towards her daughter, nervous but desperate, fearing the train would run into her beloved.
    “我的上帝啊!”他像一张小脸转向他时大声喊道。“这是个婴儿!”莫尔立即做出了决定,实施了紧急刹车,一半的火车仍然绕在弯道上。他不得不冒着紧急停车的危险。在他的努力中,火车继续移动,就像一只猫看到了一条鱼,它诱人的气味吸引了猫接近婴儿。与此同时,马歇尔冲向紧张但绝望的女儿,担心火车会撞到她的爱人。
    Para 2
The child was now just 36 meters ahead. Mohr pulled the brake with his whole efforts. The sound of wheels grinding against the rails rang through the sky. The situation was quite dangerous. As the train was almost stopped, he immediately opened the left door of the engine cab quickly and swiftly jumped from the moving train and ran back to the child. She lay crying by the tracks.A great relief sweeping over Mohr, he lifted her from the dirt hurriedly. It was only then that Mohr noticed the train had stopped and Marshall was just coming to her baby. With the baby in his arms,Mohr began to walk towards the mother.

60-year-old Richard Olsen had retired from his work. He was very interested in adventure and hunting. This time he hunted on a land near Watford City, N.D., in the underpopulated western part of the state. In the cold winter, he tried a new spot and forgot to bring his cell phone. He hiked more than half a mile with two dogs to a harvested wheat field.
Eyes fixed in the horizon in expectation of another pheasant(野鸡)taking flight, Richard stepped on a thin crust(层)of snow on a canal. It collapsed and dropped him.
Realizing that he was in trouble and was going to hurt himself Richard was suddenly picking up a lot of speed. His left leg hit first, and he lay on his side to reach for his shotgun, unloaded it and used it as a walking stick. When he was party up, he slipped and slid back down, because one of his feet got stuck between two rocks. Richard told himself that if he didn't get himself out of the canal, he wasn't going to have a very good night.
Richard walked his foot free and climbed more slowly and cautiously out of the canal. Richard immediately realized the difficulty of the task before him. The accident occurred at about 2 p.m., and it was nearly 5 p.m. with the road far away and the sun setting.
Richard focused on crawling(爬)to safety. Even with his gun's support, hopping(单脚跳)was impractical. Instead, he sat down and pushed himself backward less than 40 inches at a time with his good leg. He was stubborn and sure that he must hold on. Temperatures dropped below zero overnight, and his gloves and boots got wet. His hands and feet soon were completely numb.
    Paragraph 1:
Richard's dogs had been playing in the field and eventually came up to him.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Paragraph 2:
When the sixth car passed without stopping, his heart sank in despair.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Paragraph1:
Richard's dogs had been playing in the field and eventually came up to him. The two dogs surrounded his body to warm him while barking in anxiety. Richard finally struggled to one side of the road with the help of his dogs. Although he was exhausted and painful, he still tried to wave down a driver for fear that he might lose consciousness at any time. He waved wildly and shouted loudly but with no reply from any car.
    Paragraph 2:
When the sixth car passed without stopping, his heart sank in despair. However, gleams of daylight remained—Richard saw the seventh car. Gathering all his strength, he waved his hands again. Fortunately, this time the car stopped and the driver rolled down the window to ask him what was wrong. After realizing Richard's situation, the driver got off, and assisted Richard onto the back seat with Richard's dogs. Richard, whose tears welled up in his eyes, extended his heartfelt gratitude in a weak voice. Finally, Richard got rescued and cured. Kindness will be late sometimes, but never miss.
根据三处关键信息,即①所给材料最后三句的信息“With his strength almost giving out,…”(由于体力几乎耗尽…)及“Temperatures dropped below zero overnight,...His hands and feet soon were completely numb.”(在夜间温度降到零度以下……他的手脚很快失去知觉)②第一段首句“Richard's dogs had been playing in the field and eventually came up to him.”(Richard的狗一直在田野里疯闹,最后来到他身边)③第二段首句“When the sixth car passed without stopping, his heart sank in despair.”(随着第六辆车绝尘而去,他的心陷入绝望),可以大致确定续写的基本思路:
    续写第一段:主要围绕“Richard如何向路人求助无果”来构思。
    续写第二段:主要围绕“Richard如何获救”来展开构思。
    2.续写线索:狗狗围着他——挥手求救——没有回应——害怕——再次挥手——了解情况——帮助上车——感谢
    3.词汇激活
    行为类
    ①狗狗围着他:surround him/ accompany him
    ②挥手求救:wave down/ wave one's hand
    ③没有回应:no reply/ no response
    ④了解情况:realize one's situation/learn about one's situation
    ⑤帮助:assist/help/aid
    ①害怕:fear/ afraid /scare
    ②感谢:tears welling up/heartfelt gratitude/
[高分句型1] Although he was exhausted and painful, he still tried to wave down a driver for fear that he might lose consciousness at any time.(由Although引导让步状语从句,表达高级。)
[高分句型2] Richard, whose tears welled up in his eyes, extended his heartfelt gratitude in a weak voice.(由关系代词whose引导非限制性定语从句,指代Richard,表示热泪盈眶的Richard,表达高级)
    The Chase Is On
It was dark outside, just after the dinner hour, when Correa and Disley and their three kids climbed into their black Cadillac(a car). As they prepared to leave the parking lot of the restaurant where they'd just eaten, a dark blue Honda with heavily coloured windows crossed their path.
Yo, babe,” Correa yelled, "that's that car. That's that car!”
Earlier in the day, Disley had mentioned a report on Amber Alert issued for a missing 8-year-old girl in Brimfield, Massachusetts, less than 30 miles from the family's home in Springfield. The car that passed them was the same make and model as the one that had been referred to in the news.
Correa took a hard right out of the parking lot and closely followed the Honda in an effort to see the car number. The driver immediately sped up and blew through a stop sign. Correa shocked his family by following suit(doing the same as the Honda). He wasn't about to lose the Honda. "Being a father, I had to do what I had to do," he later told ABC News.
The Honda pulled around the back of a store." They're trying to get rid of me!" Correa yelled. When the Honda came around to the front, Correa caught up and pulled ahead, trying to cut it off. The Honda hit the brakes and sped away. The Cadillac's lights flashed on the driver- a young man with black hair, pulling a sweat-shirt up over his face. They could see him forcing a girl's head down in the back, as if trying to hide her.
Disley, who by then had called 911, was reporting their situation to the police. “It's him!” she yelled into the phone. “The kidnapper (绑匪)!”
Confused, the police asked, “The blue Honda?”
    “Yes, it's him!”
Correa stayed close behind the Honda, cutting off cars to do so. They were now racing down the road at 100 mph. “He's going through red lights!” Disley yelled to the police.
Correa slammed on the brakes to avoid the coming car and then hit the gas to catch up." Get him, Dad!” his son shouted excitedly from the back.
Keeping on the Honda's tail, Correa discovered another problem: the low-gas light was flashing on the Cadillac's dashboard. In fact, it had been flashing for much of the 15-minute chase. What's worse, they'd find out later that the suspension (减震悬架) had been damaged during the chase-it was broken.

    Paragraph 1:
The Cadillac soon came to a stop.
    Paragraph 2:
The kidnapper was 24-year-old named Miguel.

I received an urgent call from my aunt. “Turn on the TV. Granny’s on the Channel 10 news.” It turned out that Granny had made a sandwich run for her office and was stopped at a red light downtown. She had the window rolled down to enjoy the breeze when a man rushed up to the driver’s side window, intending to carjack (劫车) her.
Now, what the would-be carjacker couldn't have known was that this woman simply wasn’t “a granny”. This was Nancy Johnson — the same woman who owned and lived on a Texas cattle farm, drove her own tractors, and dug her own post holes to lay fence. The week before, she had shot a rattlesnake and chopped off its head with a shovel. She was the proud owner of the new minivan (小型货车) she was driving. In other words, she was not your normal kind of granny.
The carjacker leaned into the open window, one hand stuffed in his pocket, and said, “Get out of this car. I have a gun, and I will shoot you.” A statement like that would have terrified anyone else. Instead, Granny saw it as a challenge. “If you really had a gun in your pocket, you would've pulled it out and led with that first,” she shouted at him, apparently unworried.
She was right. The criminal didn't have a gun. He instead reached into the window, grabbed her, and tried to pull her out of the van. He pulled open the door, wildly catching Granny’s arms. Granny leaned her shoulder inside to press the horn (喇叭) and started yelling to make people around notice what was happening. With the door now open, she held tight the steering wheel with one arm and started kicking the man anywhere her foot could make contact. This tall woman had quite a reach.

    Paragraph 2:
Later, we asked “Granny ,don’t you realize you could have got yourself killed?”
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After a well-placed kick, the man was done, and attempted to release her and run. But Granny wouldn’t stand for that. It was now her turn to grab onto him, her hands made strong from hours and hours of farm work. That poor fool didn’t have a chance. She shouted for help to bystanders, and they rushed to her aid. With Granny leading the charge, a group of strangers came together and pinned the man to the sidewalk, holding him there until the police came. A silver-haired woman had just made a citizen’s arrest.
Later, we asked “Granny, don’t you realize you could have got yourself hilled?” Granny’s answer was surprisingly amusing and simple: “I wasn’t scared of that little idiot. I’d had my brand-new van for less than two days and a pack of good sandwiches for my office. And there was no way he was going to get either of those!” But we all learned an important lesson from her that day- the same lesson that had been building through the years. She encouraged us to push boundaries and expectations. But even more so, she taught us fearlessness.

Lungs nearly bursting, I struggled to lift my head out of the water. Inch by inch, my tired body reached for the end of the pool.
The extent of my swimming career was purely recreational, while the competitive swimmers nearby thought noticing of the seemingly simple task of a 500-meter swim test. Pushing myself to finish what I had started, I could only think: why not take the easy way out?
Earlier that week I had turned in my first job application at a local pool. Overqualified I was hired on the spot. However, the tasks were boring: helping confused visitors and measuring the height of children before they went down the slide, those sorts of things. I was capable of more.
So a swim test was required, establishing the mere fact that I was not completely helpless in a pool. Midway through, the manager administering the test remarked, “This looks really easy for you. Why aren’t you applying to-become a guard?”
“The thought hadn’t crossed my mind.”
"Well, lifeguarding demands more responsibility, strength and respect. Thus the position pays $2 more per hour. Your swimming skills are strong enough. All you need to do is complete a certification class.”
Inside I was unsure of myself, but his words inspired me — You never know what you are capable of until you force yourself to do it.
Soon I passed the swim test. All left was to practice and learn first aid, CPR(心肺复苏), and procedures for different land and water-based emergencies.
Work started soon. A well-intentioned yet anxious feeling in me soon passed. Days, weeks, and months went by without incident; emergencies were rare. The skills and training I had so carefully studied and acquired seemed unnecessary.
Today appeared to be another uneventful day. However, shortly after the other guards signaled to the children to exit the pool, I noticed one boy was still in the middle while the others had climbed up.
    注意:
    1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“Something must have gone wrong with him,” I thought to myself. ______
    ______________________________________________________________
    ______________________________________________________________
    ______________________________________________________________
Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck.
    ______________________________________________________________
    ______________________________________________________________
    ______________________________________________________________
    2.答案:
“Something must have gone wrong with him,” I thought to myself. Sure enough, with a closer look, I found the boy waving his hands desperately. I quickly dived into the water, swimming towards the boy at full speed. By the time I reached him, he had sunk to the bottom of the pool, his head hanging down, which filled my heart with fright and concern. I picked the boy up and headed to the poolside, keeping his head above the water.
    “他一定出了问题,”我对自己想。果然,仔细看,发现男孩拼命地挥手。我迅速地潜入水中,全速地向那个男孩游去。当我走近他的时候,他已经沉到池底,头垂着,我心里充满了恐惧和忧虑。我把男孩抱起来,走向泳池边,把头露出水面。
Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck. I could tell he had no heartbeat and wasn’t breathing. Every second counted! Without hesitation, I did first aid, giving him mouth-to-mouth breathing and doing CPR as trained. Other guards watching anxiously, I carried on, sweating. Suddenly, a stream of water burst out of his mouth and the boy coughed intensely. Seeing the boy regain consciousness, those around broke into cheers. Exhausted, I sighed with relief. I thought had I accepted that easy position, I would have been nothing but a bystander. I’m happy I didn’t take the easy way out.
根据给出的第一段开头的 “Something must have gone wrong with him,” I thought to myself. ”和第二段开头所给句子“Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck.” 根据给出的第二段开头的“Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck.” 最初时我选择“take the easy way out”,另找了一份简单的工作。
A little girl had been shopping with her mom in WalMart. She must have been 6 years old with brown hair and an innocent face. It was pouring with rain outside. We all stood just inside the door of the supermarket, carrying our shopping bags.
We waited. Some were patient, while others were irritated because it ruined their hurried day. I got lost in the sound and sight of the rain washing away the dirt and dust of the world.
The little girl's voice was so sweet as it broke the trance (昏睡状态) we were caught in. "Mom, let's run through the rain," she said. "What?" Mom asked. "Let's run through the rain!" she repeated.
"No, honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit," Mom replied.
This young child waited about another minute and repeated, "Mom, let's run through the rain."
"We'll get wet if we do," Mom said.
"No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning," the young girl said as she pulled her mom's arm.
"This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?"
"Don't you remember? When you talked about Daddy's cancer, you said, 'If we all believe that we can get through this, then we can get through anything!' "
The entire crowd fell silent. I swear you couldn't hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one came or left in the next few minutes. Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say.
"Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If we get wet, then maybe we just need washing," Mom said.
    Paragraph 1:
    Then off they ran.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Paragraph 2:
    The little girl was right.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Paragraph 1:
Then off they ran. We all stood, watching and smiling as they rushed past cars. They held their shopping bags over their heads in case they would get wet. There's no doubt that they got wet. But they did not mind it at all. Soon they were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children on the way to their cars. And yes, I did, too. I ran in the rain for I needed washing not only my body but also my mind.
    Paragraph 2:
The little girl was right. As she and her mom said, if we brave the elements, we can overcome any problems. We should never be frightened by the temporary problems we are faced with. They have taught me a lesson that with faith and courage, we can get through anything in our lives!

The darkness was gathering as she wobbled(颤颤巍巍)in high heels (高跟鞋) along the side of the highway. The car had come to an unexpected stop, and like a normal teenager she did the only thing she could think of...get out and walk.
It was cold and late, and home was far away. This could be a long night. If only someone would stop and offer her a ride. She prayed for help and dragged herself forward.
The lights of a truck shone from behind as it approached. "Maybe he will stop," she hoped. The brake lights flashed on as it stopped. Next moment, the car door opened. A wordless invitation was extended and she understood. Without hesitation, the girl climbed up into the seat and closed the door. Slowly the truck pulled back onto the road and disappeared into the night, never to be seen again.
I woke up in a cold sweat, frightened. Was it a dream or was it a vision? It was unbelievably real, and the girl was my daughter! I jumped from my bed and ran to her room. Her bed was empty.
I stood in horror trying to think why she hadn't come home. As the mental fog began to lift, I remembered she was visiting her friend that evening. Perhaps she stayed there for the night. It was 1:30 a.m., but I raced to the phone and dialed a number.
"Hello?" The voice was heavy with sleep.
"Hey. Sorry to wake you. Becki didn't come home tonight and I was wondering if she stayed at your place."
"No, she left here a few hours ago. She should have been home at least by midnight!" The voice on the other end began to reflect my own panic.
Over the next forty-five minutes I alternated between lying in pray and pacing the floor in anxiety.
At 2:15 a.m. lights appeared as a car turned up our long driveway. I could tell immediately that it was not my daughter's car.

I went up to the roof for a break after studying for an hour and watched the 50 or so people swimming in the natural rock pool below our house. It was a sunny day--a blue, cloudless sky over a calm sea. But then, as I looked in the distance, I discovered three or four big waves heading towards the shore. I'd seen these mini-tsunamis(海啸) many times before. They were heading at speed in the direction of the pool. Most people knew how to look out for them, but from the screams that started coming from the beach, I could tell someone was in trouble.
Without thinking, I ran down into the street, holding my body board(俯伏冲浪板) on the way and shouted at a stranger to go inside my house and call the coastguard. My neighbor Moises had heard the screaming as well and was also outside with his body board, so together we rushed to the steps that led down to the sea.
Once we got closer, we discovered the waves had pulled a boy and a girl from the pool and into the open sea. I knew that the nearest boat would take at least 30 minutes to reach us. Waiting for help wasn't a choice. I wasn't used to this sort of emergency--I’d never been trained as a lifeguard-but I didn't think twice about trying to save them. I supposed in a way I wanted to impress everyone: at 19, a deal like that can seem like a good opportunity to show off.
Moises and I dived into the water and it took us 10 minutes to get to them. When we finally reached them, they were almost lifeless with only their heads coming in and out of the water. We could tell they were still alive from their small breaths but it was clear they wouldn't have been able to stay there much longer. I held the boy and pulled him over my board. Moises moved the girl onto his board. We discussed pushing them back to the shore, but we were too far out.

We had to wait. We eagerly hoping for the arrival of the saving boat. The wild wind blew and the freezing sea water clapped our bodies continuously. 30 minutes seemed much longer as we just helplessly floated on the boundless sea. After a long time, a light spot appeared in the distance! We waved our hands and yelled out for help. The boat finally reached us and took all of us back to the shore. The two children were immediately sent to the nearest hospital.
That night, word came from the hospital that the two people were in good condition. Picturing what the merry scene would be, relief lay in my heart and happiness etched on my face. The next morning, all the people I met smiled to me and could not stop praising me. It seemed like a good opportunity to show myself off, but I didn’t mean to. In fact, I was ashamed I had thought about it. It occurred to me that helping others was priceless and everyone should be a lifeguard.

Cathryn Hussain had a Labradoodle (拉布拉多) dog. It was only six months old. The pet was so cute
that its owner loved it very much and couldn’t show her caring enough. She raised it carefully and wonderfully. Two days before Christmas, the Labradoodle dog Waffle looked weak. So Cathryn took Waffle for a walk in Belmont Park when a stranger came close to them.
Cathryn said the male was wearing a black, hooded top and a scarf, he spoke with a foreign accent. The man approached her, said “hello” to her and played with Waffle for a short time. But she noticed him holding a suitcase. So she hurried off with the dog. When she got home, she went inside to get the dog food and came out, only to find that Waffle was missing and the leash (狗绳) had been left where it had been. It is apparent that someone cut it out and stole her Labradoodle dog. She suspected the male following them.
Officers have been checking local CCTV and making inquiries into the theft of Waffle. Sergeant Steve White from Devon and Cornwall Police said, “The family of Waffle are very anxious and upset at the theft of their pet dog. Myself and all of the officers at the police station dealing with this crime also feel very sad for the family over what is a cruel and mean-spirited crime, especially during the Christmas period.”
Waffle still hasn’t been found. Police are looking for and following up information. Cathryn said, “This Christmas was difficult as I’ve got a five-year-old grandson so I had to force a smile for him. We haven’t told him exactly what happened to Waffle yet. Christmas was extremely upsetting for us with my daughter Mary breaking up with her boyfriend. We just want Waffle home and for things to go back to normal. I posted a contact number, hoping someone would call.”

    Paragraph 1:
On the Christmas eve, Cathryn received a call, which said to return the pet to her at the park gate.

    Paragraph 2:

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
On the Christmas eve, Cathryn received a call, which said to return the pet to her at the park gate. Cathryn and her daughter returned to the police station to report the incident. And Cathryn felt the voice sounding familiar. Taking safety into consideration, the policemen arranged for Mary to the meeting place with her mother. As they approached, they saw the suspect who wore a set of new suit hugging beautiful flowers. A lovely dog jumped and ran around him. Looking carefully, Mary was surprised to scream.
Just then Mary recognized the thief was her boyfriend. Cathryn also recognized he was the male she had met in the park. The male explained that he was very upset after breaking up with Mary. He wanted to give her a surprise as a Christmas gift. He ever saw the pet’s photos. So when he came across Waffle which looked ill, he took it to the pet clinic and cured him. He bowed to them and gave flowers to Mary. The police didn’t judge his behavior as a crime but educated him firmly. Waffle returned, and Mary and her boyfriend made up.

It was a Saturday afternoon. The color of the sky was changing, first light gray, then dark gray, and finally dark and dense. The wind was blowing heavily, and the trees were swaying in the strong wind. It began to rain cats and dogs. Soon, the road was filled with puddles from the rain.
On such a stormy afternoon, my mother took my five-year-old brother, Christopher, and me to a new big toy store she had read about in the newspaper. “So many toys,” the advertisement had shouted in full and flashy color, “that we had to get a huge warehouse to fit them all!”
Christopher and I couldn’t have been more excited. We ran across the parking lot, through the cold and biting rain, as fast as our little legs could carry us. We left our mother outside to battle with the frustrating umbrella, which never worked when she wanted it to. “Christine! Take care of your young brother!” Mother shouted at the top of her voice.
“Christine! I’m going to find the Lego section(乐高积木区)! There’s a new pirate ship I want, and I have four dollars! Maybe I can buy it!” Christopher exclaimed and ran off excitedly. I only half heard him. I took a right turn and, to my wide-eyed delight, found myself in the midst of the Barbie (芭比) World.
I was studying a Barbie and doing some simple math in my head when suddenly an earthshaking clap of thunder roared from the storm outside. I jumped at the noise, dropping the doll to the floor. The lights flickered (闪烁) once and died, covering everything in a blanket of blackness. Thunder continued to shake the sky and lightning illuminated the store for seconds, casting frightening shadows on my mind.

    注意:
    1. 所续写短文的词数应为 150 左右;
    2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。

    Paragraph 1:“Oh no,” I thought, “Where’s Christopher?”

    Paragraph 2:“Christine, I’m here.”
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    Paragraph 1:
“Oh no,” I thought, “Where’s Christopher?” Scared and frozen on the spot, I felt the need to see, hug my brother and make sure he was all right. My stomach twisted. I ran up and down the aisles in the dark, panic filling my small chest and making it difficult to breathe. I knocked into displays of candies and tripped over toys, while calling my brother’s name like crazy. Anxious as I was, I could not find him. Tears of frustration and fear trickled down my face, but I continued to run.
    Paragraph 2:
“Christine, I’m here.” Excitement took my breath away --- there in the Lego aisle I found Christopher. He was standing alone, perfectly still, next to the pirate ship set. I began to cry in relief, throwing my arms around him and hugged him tightly. He hugged me back, saying, “I knew if I waited here, Christine, you would be able to find me.” Then, I took his hand in mine and we went to look for our mother, who must be desperately searching the store for us.
    “克里斯汀,我在这里。“兴奋让我喘不过了一口气——在乐高玩具的过道上,我找到了克里斯托弗。他独自站着,一动不动,站在海盗船旁边。我开始如释重负地哭了起来,伸出双臂搂住他,紧紧地拥抱着他。他拥抱我说:“我知道如果我在这里等着,克里斯汀,你会找到我的。”然后,我把我的手握进我的手,我们去找我们的母亲,她一定是拼命地在商店里找我们。
