Learning aims:

1. Know how to say the twelve months of the year

2. Find some good ways to remember spelling of the months

3. Know some grammar rules when talking about the dates of festivals

4. Use the grammar rules correctly to talk about the dates of festivals

T: Boys and girls, last lesson we learnt about the story time of Unit7. What is the topic of it?

Ss: Chinese festivals.

T: What festivals did we learn in the story?

Ss:…（Spring Festival  Dragon Boat Festival  Mid-Autumn Festival  Double Ninth Festival )

T: We leant four festivals. So when are these festivals?

  What do people usually do at these festivals?

  Please try to say something about them. The more, the better.Ss:…

T: I think you know something about Chinese Festivals. And we know the festivals are in different months

Step 3 Grammar Time

（1）        Words

1)     T: We have learnt some months of the year. Can you read them again?

   Ss:…

 T: How many months are there in a year?

 Ss: Twelve.

  T: Can you name the other months of the year?

 S:

2)T: How to remember the spelling

T: Look at the twelve words carefully. Try to find an easy way to remember them. You can speak in Chinese.

T: I give you a suggestion, try to put the words into 4 groups.

Ju  ber have the same pronunciation.

Pay attention to the first two, uary, How to read them?

Ss: January February.

T: Even though they look the same, the pronunciation is not the same.

T: Do you have any other way to remember the words?

T: You can remember the words according to the syllables.

 (eg. September)

T: When you are memorizing the word, the meaning the pronunciation and the spelling, you can put all these good ways together to help you remember the words better.

3)T: I know you must know the twelve months very well, but to put them on the calendar, the words are too __________

Ss: Long.

T: So we have to shorten them

  For example, January can be shorten as J a n dot

             December can be shorten as D e c dot

T: What’s the rest of them, please talk to your partner.

4). T: Now open your books, turn to page71, and check if you are right. Find two special ones; circle them on your book.

 T: Why they are special?

5). T: Now let’s try to remember all these and try to say them very quickly.

（学生看缩写形式在Bingo game格中看缩写说单词 全体一起说）

T: Which two are missing？

6) T: I put all the months in the box very randomly, now I want you to put the shorten form not the words, into the twelve boxes very randomly very quickly.

（让学生在格子里随机写12个月简写并互相读一读）

 Pay attention to the first letter should be capital letter, and don’t forget the dot.

 T: This is a game. In this class I want to play the game Bingo, not now, later.

知识链接：护照签证、登机牌月份的缩写全部大写，并且没有点。

(2)  Sentences

1)T: So now I want you to read some sentences, because you only have twelve words, you still need one sentence to play the game.

  T: This, time, can you read these sentences and try to write a sentence structure on the blackboard?

    （引到grammar第一个部分，让学生自己总结句型，再教师板书，强调重点）

  板书    The … is in … or….    关注大小写 the  in 和 or

2)T: Do you have any questions about the sentence structure?

T: When you learn grammar， you have to ask questions. If you are good at asking questions, you will learn grammar very well. What do you want to ask?

T: You have no questions. But you will have later. I have a question. Listen to my question. We have a sentence structure here, Why do we use in?

（1）        Why do we use in here, not on.

We have the month here, not the date.

（2）        Why do we use or here?

Why do we have two months?

Chinese lunar calendar. Because the Chinese festivals change their dates according to the Chinese lunar calendar. Do we always use or here?

T: For Christmas, for Teacher’s Day, do we need or here?

Ss: No.

（3）        Why do we use the here?

T: Have you ever thought about this? If you want to learn grammar. You should ask yourself why.

Because if you are putting some Chinese traditional festivals here, you have the, and also end with festival.

 在中国传统节日，又以festival 结尾，此时加上the

 (4) Judgement

The Dragon Boat Festival is in May or June. ( No)

The Christmas is in December. ( Yes)

Chinese National Day is on October. ( No)

The Double Seventh Festival is in July or August. ( Yes)

10) Game: Bingo sentences

   T:I will say some festivals, you have to say the sentence correctly.

   T: Children’s Day.

   Ss: Children’s Day is in June.

   T: Now let’s try to use this sentence. Listen to me and finish my sentence.

②      Teacher’s Day

③      Christmas

④      The Double Ninth Festival

T: Shall we say Bingo now?

T: Now let’s play the Bingo game in groups again. But remember you’ll have to use this sentence correctly.

Step 4 Fun Time

     T: How many seasons are there in a year?

     Ss: Spring summer autumn winter

     T: When is spring?

     S1: It’s in March April and May.

     How about the other seasons?

     T: How is the weather in Spring?

       What can you see in spring?

       What do people usually do in spring?

     T: Seasons are beautiful. We have a lot of fun in different seasons. Here, let’s try to look back upon a rhyme. We leant it in Grade Four. Read together.

     T: Here are also some pieces of rhymes . Read by yourselves.

     T: Which part do you like?

     S: Winter.

     T: Can you read for us?

     T: Now please draw or write about your favourite season on the dial. And say something about the season you like.
