“Life is about daring to carry out your ideas,” said Italian mountaineer Reinhold Messner.
One of the best-known living mountaineers, now 74, Messner became the first person to climb Mount Qomolangma alone and without the help of bottled oxygen (氧气) in 1980.
He also became, in 1986, the first to reach the world’s 14 mountain tops of over 8,000 meters, again without bottled oxygen.
Along the way, he has practiced a special style of mountaineering known as alpinism, in which climbers try to reach the top with as little material (材料) and outside help as possible.
But it is an art that is increasingly getting lost — today’s climbers depend on Sherpas (local guides for climbers in the Himalayas) and ready-made routes to reach the top, Messner said.
“The true alpinist doesn’t want such help. He wants to go into the wild,” he said.
His achievements have made him a great hero, but Messner says he has gotten into plenty of dangerous situations along the way, too.
“Around half of the top alpinists have died climbing,” he said.
“Of course, if I turn back more often than the others, I can increase my chances of survival,” he added. “But if I hadn’t been lucky a few times, I wouldn’t be here.”
Messner later moved on to different challenges (挑战), crossing the Gobi Desert and Antarctica.
He is also a writer and was in Frankfurt to present his latest book, “Wild”, telling the true story of a 1916 Antarctic expedition (探险).
Today, Messner spends his time making films and talks excitedly about his present one, which is set in Kenya, Africa, and tells the story of two climbers who run into trouble and are faced with life-changing situations.
After a lifetime of following his next dream, he believes film-making will be his final project.
“I was always at my best when I was learning, when I was curious (求知的),” he said.
    8. What is special about true alpinists?
    A. They can reach the top quickly.
    B. They try to depend on themselves.
    C. They follow ready-made routes.
    D. They often work with local guides.
    9. What helped Messner survive dangerous situations?
    A. Good luck. B. Belief.
    C. Good skills. D. Courage.
    10. What does Messner tell us about the story of his new film?
    A. It is very interesting.
    B. It happens in Africa.
    C. It is based on his latest book.
    D. It records his true experiences.
    11. What is the text mainly about?

Humans have favoured red apples for generations, but rising temperatures could mean the end of a rosy red apple.
The ancestors of the modern apple were wild trees growing in what is now Kazakhstan. Today, wild apple trees still grow there, perfuming the air with fallen fruit and feeding the bears that move slowly through the forest, although the wild apples' numbers have become smaller by 90% in the last 50 years due to human development and their future is uncertain.
Apple colour arises from the expression level of certain genes in the skin, scientists have found. Interestingly, colour also depends on temperature. To get an apple that's fully red, temperatures must stay cool, David Change, an expert at Plant and Food Research in New Zealand, explains. As temperatures warm, he suggests, it could become more difficult for apples to turn red.
Colour probably didn't win other features of an apple when growers were evaluating a new tree, however. Instead, they focused on the taste and use for the apple: some are good for cider, some for pies, some for sauce, and some for eating. It didn't much matter exactly what the fruit looked like and whether it looked the same from tree to tree, because farmers were growing fruit for themselves and for their local market, and function mattered more than looks.
Bunker says that all changed about a hundred years ago. The redder apples might not be better than the yellower ones—in fact they might be worse---but, "red sells; that's the problem”.
"It happens to every single apple on the market," says Bedford. "That's just the nature of our desire to have apples the way we want them to look...ever since man has been making choices they've been making them redder and redder. "
    12. What's the main idea of the passage?
    A. Humans have been preferring red apples.
    B. Rising temperatures make apples no longer red.
    C. The ancestors of modern apple still exist.
    D. Growers pay less attention to change the colour of apples.
    13. What can be inferred from paragraph 3?
    A. Scientists have found ways to change the colour of apples.
    B. Apples will become red in winter because of the low temperature.
    C. Apple colour is greatly influenced by temperature.
    D. The higher the temperature is , the redder apples will be.
    14. Which of the following statements will NOT win the favor of growers?
    A. The colour of the apple. B. The taste of the apple.
    C. The use of the apple. D. The function of the apple.
    15. What does Bedford's words mean?
    A. Every single apple on the market looks nice.
    B. We humans desire to change the appearance of apples.
    C. Humans have been choosing various apples.
    D. Humans in fact prefer the apples which look redder.

Our "Mommy and Me" time began two years ago. My next﹣door neighbor and fellow mother,Christie, and I were out in our front yards, watching seven children of age 6 and under ride their bikes up and down. "I wish I could take one of my children out alone,"said Christie.
Then we worked out a plan:When Christie takes one of her children out,I'll watch her other three. And when she watches two of mine,I'll take someone out.
The children were extremely quick to accept the idea of "Mommy and Me" time. Christie's daughter,McKenzie, went first. When she returned, the other children showed her with tons of questions. McKenzie was smiling broadly. Christie looked refreshed and happy. "She's like a different child when there's no one else around,"Christie shared with me quickly. With her mother all to herself,McKenzie didn't have to make an effort to gain attention.
Just as Christie had noticed changes in McKenzie,I also discovered something different in each of my children during our alone times. For example,I am always surprised when my daughter, who is seldom close to me,holds my hand frequently. My stuttering(口吃的)son,Tom,doesn't stutter once during our activities since he doesn't have to struggle for a chance to speak. And the other son,Sam,who's always a follower when around other children shines as a leader during our times together.
The "Mommy and Me" time allows us to be simply alone and away with each child﹣talking, sharing, and laughing, which has been the biggest gain. Every child deserves to be an only child at least once in a while.

    D. parents should watch others' children.
    C
One day when I was 12, my mother gave me an order: I was to walk to the public library, and borrow at least one book for the summer. This was one more weapon for her to defeat my strange problem—inability to read.
In the library, I found my way into the “Children’s Room”. I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf at random. The cover of a book caught my eye. It presented a picture of a beagle. I had recently had a beagle, the first and only animal companion I ever had as a child. He was my “secret sharer”, but one morning, he was gone, given away to someone who had the space and the money to care for him. I never forgot my beagle.
There on the book’s cover was a beagle which looked identical(相同的) to my dog. I ran my fingers over the picture of the dog on the cover. My eyes ran across the title, Amos: the Beagle with a Plan. Unknowingly, I had read the title. Without opening the book, I borrowed it from the library for the summer.
Under the shade of a brush, I started to read about Amos. I read very, very slowly with difficulty. Though pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of the story about a dog who, like mine, had been separated from his family and who finally found his way back home. That dog was my dog, and I was the little boy in the book. At the end of the story, my mind continued the final scene of reunion, on and on, until my own lost dog and I were, in my mind, running together
My mother’s call returned me to the real world. I suddenly realized something: I had read a book, and I had loved reading that book. Everyone knew I could not read. But I had read it. Books could be incredibly wonderful and I was going to read them.
I never told my mother about my “miraculous(奇迹)” experience that summer, but she saw a slow but remarkable improvement in my classroom performance during the next year. And years later, she was proud that her son had read thousands of books, was awarded a PhD in literature, and authored his own books, articles, poetry and fiction. The power of the words has held.
    8. The author’s mother told him to borrow a book in order to ________.
    A. encourage him to do more walking B. let him spend a meaningful summer
    C. help cure him of his reading problem D. make him learn more about weapons
    9. The book caught the author’s eye because________.
    A. it reminded him of his own dog
    B. he found its title easy to understand
    C. it contained pretty pictures of animals
    D. he liked children’s stories very much
10 Why could the author manage to read the book through?
    A. He was forced by his mother to read it.
    B. He identified with(对某事有同感) the story in the book.
    C. The book told the story of his pet dog.
    D. The happy ending of the story attracted him.
    11. Which one could be the best title of the passage?
    A. My Passion for Reading B. Mum’s Strict Order
    C. Reunion with My Beagle. D. The Charm of a Book.
    D

Have you imagined that planting trees can make a big difference? People say that one man can’t make a difference, but Abdul Samad Sheikh, a 60-year-old rickshaw (人力车) driver from Bangladesh, has proved that doing a small thing over a long period of time can mean very much. He has planted at least one tree every day since he was 12 years old, which means that he has so far planted a small forest of over 17,500 trees. Imagine if everyone followed his example.
Abdul has worked as a rickshaw driver for most of his life. He makes a little money from his job, which is only enough to put food on the table for his family, but he somehow tries to also buy at least one tree every day. He considers it his duty to the world. Mostly he plants them on government land so nobody can cut them down later. He also waters them, and if he sees anyone cutting a tree, he blames them.
Abdul, his wife Jorna, and four of their children live in two old houses, on a piece of land that is owned by the Faridpur deputy commissioner’s office. They have no land of their own.
Sometimes, she commands him not to plant trees but he doesn’t listen. Abdul’s 30-year-old son, Kutub Uddin, has never told his father not to plant trees, because he thinks his father does a good thing for society.
Abdul’s neighbors all know about his daily habit, and praise his work. Whoever can ask of him anything, he will do his best to help. Therefore, Abdul is loved by neighbors.
For his efforts, Abdul Samad Sheikh was recently honored by The Daily Star, and given $1,253 to help him build a better home for his family. The Daily Star wished everyone to follow his example, and protect the environment.
“I can’t do it alone. I need the help of you all,” Abdul said in his speech.
    4. What do we know about Abdul?

    A. To get money from government.
    B. To set a good example to people.

“Baby signing” classes established to improve language skills actually make little difference to children’s development, according to new research. Scholars claimed there was no evidence that the lessons — in which babies are taught simple gestures to communicate their everyday needs — enable children to talk quicker than others.
In a threeyear study, it was claimed that the method could make mothers more responsive to their children’s behaviors but failed to actually increase babies’ vocabulary. An active home environment in which parents regularly talk to their children was much more effective, researchers warned. The findings will cast doubt on the movement — born in the United States — which has proved hugely popular among middleclass parents.
Baby signing is now a multi-million pound industry, with thousands of mothers and fathers paying for classes, books and DVDs. Young children are taught simple gestures for words and phrases to communicate their everyday needs, such as “milk” “more” “all gone” “food” and “tired”. It is claimed that the technique brings great benefits, including improving the relationship between mother and child, helping language development and even increasing a child’s intelligence.
But research from Hertfordshire University has found no evidence that using baby signing helps to improve their language development. The scholars added, “Baby signing has become big business and mothers, particularly firsttime mums or less confident parents, feel the pressure to do it. Some even think ‘if I don’t do it and everyone else does, I must be a bad mother’.”
However, baby signing experts hardly sustained the findings. Wendy Moat, 45, who has been running baby signing classes for three years, said that the classes encouraged speech development, and may help develop a higher IQ. She said, “So many mums say that their children talk so well because they did baby signing when they were babies. Parents wouldn’t say it if they didn’t believe it.”
    12. Which of the following may help improve children’s language skills?
    A. Talking to them as much as possible.
    B. Using simple words and phrases.
    C. Buying them more books and DVDs.
    D. Creating a serious home environment.
    13. According to Paragraph 4, some new mothers choose baby signing classes in that________.
    A. they are sure of the effects of them
    B. they are influenced by others
    C. they don't want to be looked down upon
    D. they don't know how to teach their children
    14. The underlined word “sustained” in the last paragraph means “________”.
A found B. got rid of C. supported D. quit
    15. What’s the main idea of the text?
    A. Baby signing classes fail to improve children’s language skills.
    B. Baby signing classes increase children’s intelligence.
    C. How to improve the relationship between mother and child.
    D. How to teach children to communicate effectively.

    The Price of a Dream
I grew up poor.We had little money, but plenty of love and attention.I understood that no matter how poor a person was, they could still afford a dream. My dream was athletics.
By the time I was sixteen, I was good at baseball and football. My high-school coach was Ollie Jarvis. He not only believed in me, but taught me the difference between having a dream and showing conviction(信念).
One summer a friend recommended me for a summer job. This meant a chance for money in my pocket — cash for dates with girls, certainly, money for a new bike and new clothes, and the start of savings for a house for my mother.
Then I realized I would have to give up summer baseball to handle the work schedule, and that meant I would have to tell Coach Jarvis I wouldn't be playing. I was afraid of this, but my mother said:“If you make your bed, you have to lie in it.”
When I told Coach Jarvis, he was as mad as I expected him to be.“Your playing days are limited. You can't afford to waste them, ” he said.
I stood before him with my head hanging, trying to think of the words that would explain to him why I dream of buying my mom a house.
“How much are you going to make at this job, son?” he demanded.
“Three point twenty-five an hour,” I replied.
“Well, ” he asked, “is $3.25 an hour the price of a dream?”
That question exposed the difference between wanting something right now and having a goal.I devoted myself to sports that summer, and within the year I was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates to play rookie-league ball, and offered a $20, 000 contract.I signed with the Denver Broncos in 1984 for $1.7 million, and bought my mother my dream house.
24 Why was the writer grateful to Coach Jarvis?
    A. Because Coach Jarvis made him set a goal.
    B. Because Coach Jarvis supplied him with new clothes.
    C. Because Coach Jarvis gave him financial support.
    D. Because Coach Jarvis helped him show conviction.
    25. What did the writer want to do when he was offered a job?
    A. Balance summer baseball and the work schedule.
    B. Refuse the job offer for summer baseball.
    C. Give up summer baseball for the job.
    D. Ask his coach Jarvis for advice.
    26. Which of the following can replace “If you make your bed, you have to lie in it.”?

In Shakespeare’s HAMLET, Polonius asks the prince, “What are you reading, my Lord?” Hamlet replies, “Words, words, words.” Either, as is likely, Hamlet wasn’t interested in what he was reading, or, less likely, he didn’t understand the words he was reading. In this case, Polonius should have lent Hamlet a good dictionary.
Dictionaries are essential tools for people who like to read. There are so many words in English that even the most educated person will sometimes meet an unfamiliar word and have to look it up. Languages keep changing, too, with new words constantly being added and new meanings being applied to old words. For example, the 12th edition of Xinhua Dictionary, the most popular dictionary in China, has added new words such as “chu xin” “fen si” “er wei ma” etc. As for new meanings, “girl” once meant “a small child of either sex”. And “naughty” didn’t mean you were “enjoying playing tricks”; it meant you were poor.
A printed dictionary can’t keep pace with all the changes which is why most dictionaries have websites and apps to help you keep up-to-date. However, I still prefer printed dictionaries because they give you more definitions and more examples of how a word is used. Even a simple word, such as “set”, has 430 meanings (the most of English words) but an online dictionary would only offer two or three. A printed dictionary also gives you the opportunity to discover new words as you run your finger down the page looking for the word you want.
There is no “official” English dictionary, but the Oxford English Dictionary is considered to be the best. For English language learners, however, I would recommend the Collins COBUILD Dictionary for Advanced Learners. Hamlet, by the way, was Danish and a college student. He would have appreciated the Collins Dictionary to help himself with his words, words, words. This dictionary has over 40,000 words and gives you full-sentence definitions with good examples of how words are used.
    28. What’s the function of paragraph 1?
    A. To introduce the topic.
    B. To let the readers know more about HAMLET.
    C. To arouse readers’ interest in Shakespeare.
    D. To explain when it’s necessary to use a dictionary.
    29. Why does the author mention “girl” in paragraph 2?
    A. To show how powerful Xinhua Dictionary is.
    B. To support the idea: languages keep changing.
    C. To prove new words are being added to dictionaries.
    D. To imply “girl” also means “boy” in some cases.
    30. What’s the author’s attitude to printed dictionaries?
    A. Favorable. B. Ambiguous. C. Negative. D. Critical.
    31. What’s the author’s purpose of writing the last paragraph?
    A. To introduce the history of dictionaries.
    B. To call on learners to use dictionaries.
    C. To recommend Collins Dictionary.
    D. To explain why Hamlet likes Collins.
    D
Since the 1970s, scientists have been searching for ways to link the brain with computers. Brain-computer interface (BCI) technology could help people with disabilities send commands to machines.
Recently, two researchers, Jose Millan and Michele Tavella from the Federal Polytechnic School in Lausanne, Switzerland, demonstrated (展示) a small robotic wheelchair directed by a person’s thoughts.
In the laboratory, Tavella operated the wheelchair just by thinking about moving his left or right hand. He could even talk as he watched the vehicle and guided it with his thoughts.
“Our brain has billions of nerve cells. These send signals through the spinal cord (脊髓) to the muscles to give us the ability to move. But spinal cord injuries or other conditions can prevent these weak electrical signals from reaching the muscles,” Tavella says. “Our system allows disabled people to communicate with external world and also to control devices.”
The researchers designed a special cap for the user. This head cover picks up the signals from the scalp (头皮) and sends them to a computer. The computer interprets the signals and commands the motorized wheelchair. The wheelchair also has two cameras that identify objects in its path. They help the computer react to commands from the brain.
Prof. Millan, the team leader, says scientists keep improving the computer software that interprets brain signals and turns them into simple commands. “The practical possibilities that BCI technology offers to disabled people can be grouped in two categories: communication, and controlling devices. One example is this wheelchair.”
He says his team has set two goals. One is testing with real patients, so as to prove that this is a technology they can benefit from. And the other is to guarantee that they can use the technology over long periods of time.
    32. BCI is a technology that can ________.

    34. The team will test with real patients to ________ .
    A. make profits from them B. prove the technology useful to them
    C. make them live longer D. learn about their physical condition
    35. Which of the following would be the best title for the text?

Although all of the other flights had gone fine, Xayvior became angry during one of the flights, and Redding couldn’t calm him.

Today we talk about proverbs. A proverb is a short, well-known saying that expresses a common truth or belief. Proverbs are found in most cultures and are often very old.
In American history, Benjamin Franklin was famous for his proverbs. He lived in the 1700s and was a leader of the American Revolution against English rule. He was a also a scientist, inventor and writer.
Franklin published a book called Poor Richard’s Almanac. He included many proverbs he had heard or created. Some of them are still used today, like:“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”.
Here are other examples of proverbs that Americans use. The first ones are about love. Some people say,”All is fair in love and war.” They mean that anything you do in a relationship or in battle is acceptable.
Another proverb about love is, ”Absence makes the heart grow fonder.” This means you love someone even more when he or she is far away. But other people say, ”Out of sight, out of mind.” You may not even think about that person when he or she is not with you. Which of these proverbs do you think is most true?
Another proverb says” Love is blind.” In other words, when you are in love with someone, you may refuse to see anything bad about that person.
Some people are only interested in having a relationship with someone who is very good-looking. You might tell them that “Beauty is only skin deep.” Your girlfriend may be lovely to look at, but she may also have some bad qualities. Or your boyfriend is a wonderful person, but not good-looking. So what a person looks like is not really important.
Sadly, we have no more time for this program. So we must say,” All good things must come to an end.” Thanks for listening.
    28. Which of the following is a proverb?
    A. I love you more than I can say B. Mind your own business
    C. When in Beijing, please call me D. Rome wasn’t built in one day.
    29. Which is NOT true about Franklin?
    A. He was good at creating and collecting proverbs.
    B. He was a fighter who was strongly against English rule.
    C. He was a person who lived more than 500 years ago.
    D. There were many proverbs in his book Poor’ Richard’s Almanac.
    30. Most proverbs mentioned in this passage are about_______.
    A. Love and relationship B. wealth and health
    C. beauty and truth D. work and studies
    31. What is this passage most likely to be used for?
    A. An English radio program B. A history book
    C. An English speech contest D. An English textbook.
    D
Some teens are disagreeing about compulsory BMI (body mass index) (身体质量指数) checks in PE classes. Do BMI checks at school do more harm than good? Two teens take sides.
Maya Meade, a high school freshman in Ohio, says yes. “I understand that schools want to weigh students because they are concerned about their physical health. That’s not a bad thing! But what about their mental health? For many students, appearance and self-image are huge sources of stress. Forcing teens to be weighed at school will only increase the pressure they feel to fit a certain mold (模子)”, says Maya.
In Maya’s opinion, weight is a personal matter that should stay between a doctor and a patient. She says, “Just imagine someone who struggles with body image being told that his or her BMI is too high as classmates look on! Even if other kids can’t hear, no student wants to feel judged by his or her teacher. That’s not why we go to school.”
Maya thinks if a school wants to have an impact on a student’s physical health, there are better ways to do it, such as providing healthy but filling meals, encouraging physical activity and teaching students about nutrition.
Ben Bagbek, a second-year student in a high school in New York, holds a different opinion. “There is no reason why a school should not be allowed to weigh its students and teach them how to calculate BMI! Obesity (肥胖症) is a huge public health concern in our country. And schools are in a position to help students understand what their weight means to their health -- before they’re at risk of life-threatening conditions.”
“A school’s job is to help students reach their full potential, and your health undoubtedly plays a role in your academic performance. BMI is not a perfect measurement, but it can help you identify the need for healthier eating habits or more physical activity.” says Ben.
The bottom line is: When you feel good, you learn better. As long as the actual number on the scale stays private, it should be viewed as an important part of your health education.
    32. What are the two teens debating?
    A. Whether students are enjoying PE classes.
    B. Whether schools are body-shaming students.
    C. Whether students should pay attention to weight.
    D. Whether schools should help students lose weight.
    33. According to Maya, what will BMI checks bring to students?
    A. Healthy diets. B. Emotional stress.
    C. Fierce competition. D. Positive self-awareness.
    34. What does Maya think of weight?
    A. It’s private. B. It’s important.
    C. It’s hard to lose. D. It’s not a big deal.
    35. Which of the following may Ben agree with?
    A. Most school students are overweight. B. BMI checks are of little help to students.
    C. Schools have the right to weigh students. D. It’s not schools’ duty to help students keep fit.

Oxford: Includes a guided tour of England’s oldest university city and colleges可知,Tour B中包括英国历史最悠久的大学城和学院,故选B。
Tour B - Oxford & Stratford including entrance fees to the University St Mary’s Church Tower and Anne Hathaway’s -£32 until 12 March and £36 thereafter.

B 5. C 6. A 7. B
Abdul has worked as a rickshaw driver for most of his life. He makes a little money from his job, which is only enough to put food on the table for his family, but he somehow tries to also buy at least one tree every day.
Mostly he plants them on government land so nobody can cut them down later.
Abdul has worked as a rickshaw driver for most of his life. He makes a little money from his job, which is only enough to put food on the table for his family. They have no land of their own. He considers it his duty to the world. Whoever can ask of him anything, he will do his best to help. Therefore, Abdul is loved by neighbors. 故选A。
第一段提到he has so far planted a small forest of over 17,500 trees. The Daily Star wished everyone to follow his example, and protect the environment. I can’t do it alone. it 指planting trees,故选B。
第一段提到he has so far planted a small forest of over 17,500 trees. The Daily Star wished everyone to follow his example, and protect the environment. I can’t do it alone. it 指planting trees,故选B。
C 9. D 10. B 11. A
根据文章第二段关键句“The TikTok app offers a wide choice of sounds, brief parts of songs and special effects tools to help create a video.”(抖音提供了丰富的声音选择,歌曲的简短部分和特效工具去帮助用户创造一个视频。)
根据文章第四段关键句“Last year, TikTok was the second-most downloaded app from Apple and Google stores. Only WhatsApp was downloaded more.”(去年,抖音是苹果和谷歌应用商店下载量排名第二的应用程序。
根据文章最后一段关键句“Companies appearing on TikTok can make money through advertising.”(出现在抖音上的公司可以通过广告赚钱。)
再根据文章第一段关键句“The popularity of Chinese-owned video-sharing service TikTok (抖音) continues to grow among young people in the United States.”
A 13. B 14. C 15. A
根据文章第二段“An active home environment in which parents regularly talk to their children was much more effective.(一个父母经常和孩子交谈的,氛围活跃的家庭环境会更有效)”可知,尽可能多地和孩子交谈可能更有助于提高儿童的语言技能。故选A项。
根据第四段“Some even think ‘if I don’t do it and everyone else does, I must be a bad mother’. (有些人甚至认为‘如果我不这样做,而其他人都这么做,我一定是个坏妈妈’)”可知,一些新手妈妈选择婴儿手语课是受他人影响,盲目跟风的行为。故选B项。
    【14题详解】
词句猜测题。根据指代关系可知,最后一段“the findings”指的是第四段的“research from Hertfordshire University has found no evidence that using baby signing helps to improve their language development (Hertfordshire大学的研究没有发现使用婴儿手语有助于改善他们的语言发展的证据)”,但宝宝手语专家Wendy Moat 说的“the classes encouraged speech development (这些课程鼓励了语言的发展)”,可见,宝宝手语专家和研究发现形成对立的观点。因此综合“baby signing experts barely sustained the findings. (婴儿手语专家几乎不sustained这一发现) ”句意可知,“sustained”意为“支持、赞成”,C项approved of(赞成)符合语境。故选C项。
    【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章第一段中心句“‘Baby signing’ classes established to improve language skills actually make little difference to children’s development, according to new research.(最新研究显示,为提高语言能力而开设的‘婴儿手语’课程实际上对儿童的发展几乎没有什么作用)”和下文围绕这一观点展开的各项研究结果可知,本文主要讲婴儿手语课不能提高儿童的语言技能。故选A项。

根据最后一部分中的“Follow all rules carefully to prevent disqualification. Write a poem using 100 words or fewer”可知,所写的诗字数不能超过100字。

根据第四段的“Then I realized I would have to give up summer baseball to handle the work schedule, and that meant I would have to tell Coach Jarvis I wouldn't be playing.( 然后我意识到我将不得不放弃夏季棒球来处理工作日程,这意味着我将不得不告诉Jarvis教练我将不会参加训练了。)”
根据第四段第一句“Then I realized I would have to give up summer baseball to handle the work schedule, and that meant I would have to tell Coach Jarvis I wouldn't be playing.( 后来我意识到我将不得不放弃夏季棒球,来处理工作日程,这意味着我将不得不告诉Jarvis教练我将不会参加训练了)再根据划线句前的“I was afraid of this”(我又害怕这样)可推断,划线句意“如果你铺了床,你就得躺在上面”,表示要勇敢面对自己导致的结果。也就是说作者的妈妈对于作者放弃棒球去工作这个事情,告诫作者:自己造成的结果要自己来承受。故选A项。
根据文章最后两句“I devoted myself to sports that summer, and within the year I was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates to play rookie-league ball, and offered a $20, 000 contract. I signed with the Denver Broncos in 1984 for $1.7 million, and bought my mother my dream house.(那年夏天,我全身心地投入到体育运动中,不到一年,我就被匹兹堡海盗队选中参加新秀联赛,并获得了一份2万美元的合同。1984年,我以170万美元的价格与丹佛野马队签约,为母亲买下了我梦寐以求的房子。)”可知,作者在运动方面取得了成功,给妈妈买了梦想中的房子。 故选B项。

    【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段第三句“Languages keep changing, too, with new words constantly being added and new meanings being applied to old words. (语言也在不断变化,新词不断被添加,旧词被赋予新的含义。)”可知,随着新词不断出现,旧词的新义不断增加,语言也一直在变化。由此可推知,作者提及“girl”这个旧词的新义是为了支撑“语言在不断变化”这个论点。故选B。
    【30题详解】
    推理判断题。通读第三段尤其是第二句中的“However, I still prefer printed dictionaries(然而,我还是更喜欢纸质词典)”可知,作者更喜欢使用纸质词典。故选A。

作者在文章第五段中描述了这种技术条件下信号传输的原理,由其中的“This head cover picks up the signals from the scalp (头皮) and sends them to a computer. The computer interprets the signals and commands the motorized wheelchair.(这个头罩从头皮接收信号,并将其发送到计算机。计算机对信号进行解读并指挥电动轮椅)”可知,信号先由头皮发出,然后由专门设计的这个帽子接收信号,再把这个信号传给电脑,电脑再对此进行翻译,最后把指令发给电动轮椅。故选C。
    【34题详解】
细节理解题。从文章最后一段中的“One is testing with real patients, so as to prove that this is a technology they can benefit from.(一种是在真实的病人身上进行测试,以证明这是一项他们可以从中受益的技术)”可知,用真正的病人进行实验的目的是要证明这项技术会让病人受益。 故选B。
