At Eagle Muntain Elementary, students nw get three times as much recess as they used t have; utdr time has been swelled frm 20 minutes t an hur each day. The prgram als fcuses n helping kids develp character instead f just test-taking skills.
Since carrying ut the prgram, teachers are nticing that their students are mre attentive and less restless. They make mre eye cntact, have better test scres, and seem t be healthier and happier verall. They even need t sharpen their pencils less because they spend less time chewing (不停地啃) n them. In a vide that recently went viral (迅速传开), furth-graders at Gidens Elementary Schl in Atlanta, Gergia lined up t shut psitive affirmatins t themselves in a mirrr while their teachers cheered them n. “I am smart!” “I am a gd persn!”
“The idea came frm smething I practice with my 5-year-ld daughter,” said Neffiteria Acker, the teacher seen in the vide hlding the mirrr.“ When we’re n ur way t schl, I have her repeat affirmatins t me, starting with, ‘I am.’ Usually, I just ask her t tell me smething gd abut herself. She’ll say, ‘I’m a fast eater,’ r, ‘I’m a fast runner.’ Then I’ll add t it, ‘Yu’re als really brave.’”
“It lifts her cnfidence. S I thught, ‘Why nt bring that t the classrm? ’ ” she added.
Cierra Levay Bradway, the teacher wh filmed the vide, said she was mved while watching the students shut their affirmatins. “It was an amazing mment,” she said. “I was really astnished when I saw the kids and heard what they were saying. Fr a lt f them, it was the first time they’d ever dne that.”
The teachers understand the imprtance f building self-cnfidence at a yung age, especially fr students wh d nt have such an pprtunity at hme.

She heard abut the success f the Finnish schl system and decided t take a trip there t study it. When she returned, she began wrking with schls here in the U.S. t d smething similar.
At Eagle Muntain Elementary, students nw get three times as much recess as they used t have; utdr time has been swelled frm 20 minutes t an hur each day. The prgram als fcuses n helping kids develp character instead f just test-taking skills.
Since carrying ut the prgram, teachers are nticing that their students are mre attentive and less restless. They make mre eye cntact, have better test scres, and seem t be healthier and happier verall. They even need t sharpen their pencils less because they spend less time chewing (不停地啃) n them. Schls in three ther states are starting a similar prgram after seeing this ne perfrm s well.
