Unit 2 The photo which we liked best was taken by Zhao Min.

1. Tonight I am more than happy to read out the winners of the photo competition.

(1)    more than 表面意思是“比……更多，多于”，这里引申为“非常，很”，后接形容词，加强语气。

        I'm more than happy to take you to my school.我非常乐意带你去我学校。

(2)    read out 表面意思“读出来”，引申为“朗读; 宣读”

read out是“动词+副词”结构，如果宾语是人称代词，人称代词要放在read与out两词中间。

        Please read out the words in the paper. 请读出纸上的字。

        Please read the poem out loudly。请大声读出这首诗。

(3)    winner [可数名词]“获胜者，赢家”

        Simon is the winner of the match.西蒙是这场比赛的获胜者。

【拓展】win [动词] “赢；获胜”，后常接比赛或奖品，过去式和过去分词都是won。

        I come to win the match. 我是来赢得比赛的。

注意：动词win（获胜）双写n+-er（名词后缀)→名词winner（获胜者）

2. We were very pleased with our competition this year.我们对今年的比赛非常满意。

be pleased with “对…满意/开心”

        Simon was pleased with the result. 西蒙对结果感到满意。

【拓展】be pleased to do sth.乐意/高兴做某事

3. Compared with other years, we received many more photos.与往年相比，我们收到了更多的照片。

compared with “与…相比”，过去分词短语在句中作状语，此时也可以用compared to。

        Compared with/to him, I'm not that lucky.与他相比，我没那么幸运。

【复习】compare A with B和 compare A to B的区别

compare A with B“把A和B进行比较” ，常表示同类相比，发现不同，是一种比较。

compare A to B “把A比作B” ，常表示异类相比，强调相似，是一种比喻。

        Let’s compare this passage with that one. 让我们把这篇文章和那篇比较比较。

        Chairman Mao compared the young people to the morning sun at eight or nine.

毛主席把青年人比作八九点钟的太阳。

4. Even though all of the photos are excellent,we are sorry to say that we cannot give prizes to everyone.

尽管所有的照片都很出色，但是我们(只能）遗憾地告诉大家我们不能给每个人都颁奖。

even though “即使; 尽管”，引导让步状语从句，可用even if替换。

语气比though或 although 更强烈。

        I will go to school, even though/if it's raining. 即使正在下雨我也要去学校。

5. The person who won the prize for the subject Nature is ffteen-year-old Li Wei.

获得“自然”主题奖的是15岁的李伟。

fifteen-year-old [复合形容词] “15岁的”，这是一个复合形容词。

复合形容词的结构为: 基数词-可数名词单数-形容词。复合形容词只能位于名词之前作定语。

【注意】构成复合形容词的各词之间用连字符连接，其中的名词应用单数形式。

如果去掉连字符，就变成几个单词了，如果基数词大于1，后面可数名词就按正常规则要变复数。

        My 2-year-old sister is a lovely girl. 我2岁的妹妹是一个可爱的女孩。

        My lovely younger sister is two years old. 我可爱的妹妹两岁大了。

6. Her photo shows a person rushing across a street on a windy evening.

她的照片展示的是在一个大风的夜晚一个冲过马路的人。

(1)    此句中rushing across a street on a windy evening为现在分词短语，作后置定语，修饰 a person。

现在分词做后置定语，表示被修饰的名词正在进行的动作。

        The girl standing there is my lovely sister.  站在那边的是我可爱的妹妹。

(2)rush [动词]“冲；奔” rush to do sth.赶忙做某事

        Wendy rushed past Simon.  温迪从西蒙身边匆匆而过。

        Simon rushed to help his sister.西蒙赶去帮助他的妹妹。

【拓展】rush也可作名词，意为“冲，匆忙，高峰期”。

        There are many cars on the road during the rush hour. 在高峰期路上有很多汽车。

7. He Zhong manages to show how this great new band moves and sounds, and the good time which their fans are having. 何中努力展示了这个特别棒的新乐队如何扭动和演唱，以及他们的粉丝正在享受的快乐时光。

此句结构比较复杂，含有一个宾语从句和一个定语从句。show后面有两个宾语，一个是宾语从句how this great new band moves and sounds，另一个宾语是the good time。time后面又跟着一个定语从句which their fans are having, time是先行词，which是引导词。

注意：宾语从句和定语从句都是陈述语序。

【复习】manage to do sth “设法做成某事”，强调成功做成了。

protect sth. against sth. “保护…免遭…；使…不受…”，也可换成protect sth.from sth...。

        The raincoat can protect you against/from the rain.雨衣可以防雨。

它们展示了一位年轻的旅行者来我们国家的一些经历和他对家乡的一些回忆。

 We are very pleased with the photo competition. Compared with other years, we received many more photos. Even though all of the photos are excellent, we can't give prizes to everyone. There are four prizes, so read on to find out who the winners are.

The person who won the prize of the "Most Beautiful Nature" photography is fifteen-year-old Li Wei. Li took photos of the mountains in Xiangshan Park. The park isn't far from his home, about 500 metres, and he knows it well.

The photo we like best in the "Historic China" group was taken by Zhao Min. Zhao is only 12 years old. Her photo is of Tian'anmen Square, the largest public square in the world. It's 880 metres from the north to the south and 500 metres wide. Her photo shows the size and the beauty of the square perfectly.

The best photo in "Music" category (类别) was taken by He Zhong who is fourteen years old. His photo of the band Crazy Tank shows the singers and the band playing at the concert in our school’s cultural festival. He Zhong manages to show the movement, the sounds of this great new band, and the fun which their fans were having.

A collection of photos called the "Many Faces of Our City"which features Beijing won the prize for the "Most Unusual"category. Three pupils at the same school worked on this entry. It includes photos of different parts of the city, old and new. It successfully shows the rich culture which makes Beijing so famous.

​Congratulations to our winners and thank everyone who entered the competition. We are very lucky that the famous photographer John William is in China to talk about his new book. He has agreed to present the prizes at the prize-giving ceremony at the end of this month.

 My first photo was taken at the age of nine. While I couldn't even remember the model of the camera, I do remember the enjoyment of looking through the photos.

When I was 16 years old, I bought a Canon camera before an overseas trip. Over the years I took many photos with it. There's Aunt Sarah, smiling in front of Buckingham Palace; Aunt Sarah, smiling under the Eiffel Tower; and Aunt Sarah, smiling in a Venetian canal. Everyone knows what Aunt Sarah looks like. They also know what Europe's great landmarks look like. I didn't think about composition（构图）when taking the photos.

After the camera was stolen, I didn't buy one for a long time because I didn't want to buy a camera that works difficulty until I found a Vivitar Series camera. It worked well in natural light, and I took a lot of photos with it. From then on, I had an artist's eye. My pictures were not of familiar Greek architectures.
