    五、阅读单选
The Big Lottery is giving money to groups of teenagers between 14 and 19 who want to become active citizens. The teenagers who would like to help make the area you live in better, cleaner, safer and friendlier can actually get money for improving your local community(社区). We have $80,000 to give away. We are looking for young people to take part in schemes(规划)and projects near where they live.
Here are a few easy things you could do to get started.
Meeting the neighbours: Everybody needs good neighbours. Knock on people’s door and find out what they would like to improve in your area. Set a date for a meeting and then make some plans together. If you don't want to go to their houses, then you could always put a note through their doors.
Neighbourhood Watch: Neighbourhood watch schemes are very popular in the UK. If you go away on holiday and leave your house, it’s very nice to know that a neighbour is keeping an eye on it. It’s a good way to make the area you live in safer. You could set one up easily and quickly.
Lending a hand: There are often elderly people living in the neighbourhood who may not be able to do the things that you can. Offer to do their shopping once a week, look after their garden for them or maybe walk their dog.
No littering: Nobody likes picking up other people's rubbish, but a clean street can make all the difference. Take turns to go out once or twice a week and see what you can find. You never know that one day you might find something valuable.
Recycling: Nearly two-thirds of your rubbish can be recycled. Some areas have already provided places for people to recycle bottles, tins, plastic and paper. Find out if this is done in your neighbourhood. If it’s not, do something about it.
So go on...Just tell us what kind of project you want to join in. Then well send you more details. Take positive action and help make your neighbourhood a better place to live.
42.The aim of the Big Lottery is _________.
A.to make the neighbourhood busier B.to help the old people in the community
C.to improve the local community D.to help young babies in the neighbourhood
43.Who is needed to take part in the project?

    C.Students in the neighbourhood. D.Teenagers from 14 to 19.
    44.Paragraph 4 and Paragraph 5 tell us _________.
A.neighbourhood watch is good to make the community cleaner
B.how to make the community safer and friendlier
C.lending a hand means lending some money to others
D.to help neighbours do what they wouldn’t like to do
45.What should you do if you want to make the neighbourhood cleaner?
A.Recycle the rubbish and take turns to pick up others’ rubbish.
B.Pick up the rubbish and find something valuable in the street.
C.Find out the recycled rubbish and throw it everywhere.
D.Try to recycle three-fourths of my rubbish once or twice a week.
In your life, there are a lot of people around you. They are your relatives, neighbors, friends or classmates. Sometimes you get along well with them, but sometimes you don’t. What can you do when someone hurts you? Most people may be angry or even fight with him/her. But it’s not a good idea. You’d better forget all this and forgive(原谅) him/her.
Maybe it’s not easy for you to do that, but it’s possible. Please remember: Keep a good mood, and you will keep healthy. Staying angry with others, in fact, means letting others’ mistakes treat yourself unfairly.
    How can you forgive others?
First, think of something pleasant and try to get yourself happy.
Second, don’t wait others to say sorry to you. If anyone hurts you, he perhaps won’t say sorry to you. He may just want to hurt you or just not see things the same way as you do.
Third, try to see things in others’ shoes. You can understand their minds better and make yourself a little happier.
At last, try to know yourself very well. Whose mistakes caused that, yours or others? If it’s your fault, try to say sorry to them. If it isn’t, smile at the thing.
46.Forgiving others is _________ according to the writer’s opinion.
    A.easy B.foolish C.possible D.impossible
47.The writer gives us _________ ideas to forgive others.
    A.three B.four C.five D.six

A.Anger doesn’t make a difference to your health. B.Thinking something pleasant makes you happy.
C.Someone may hurt you because of different ideas. D.You should say sorry if it's your fault.
    The storytellers’ secrets
Find out how writers and artists create their exciting works.
Great stories don’t just happen. Sometimes they can require years of work and effort. For example, J. K. Rowling first had the idea for the Harry Potter series while stuck on a train in 1990—and the first book didn’t come out until 1997. If you have ever wondered how great story tellers come up with their ideas, now you can find out. From September 24 to September 26, the Stories Festival will bring together lots of interesting people to talk about their work at Picturehouse Central, in London.
One of those will be the author and illustrator(插画家), Rob Biddulph, who will discuss his new book Peanut Jones and the illustrated City. He says the key to making the most of a story idea is to jot it down. “I find that ideas leave my head almost as quickly as they enter,” says Bildulph, “so I have to make a note of them immediately, otherwise they will he gone forever.”
Some story tellers at the event—such as Holly Smale, Elle McNicoll (she won the Waterstones’ Children’s Book Prize) and the author and illustrator Abigail Balfe—are sharing their thoughts on why it’s important that people with disabilities are represented in fiction. “Every child deserves(应该)to see themselves reflected positively in stories,” says McNicoll.
Finally, if you find it hard to come up with ideas by yourself, you might want to listen to Christ Smith, the bestselling author of the Kid normal series, discussing his new book The Great Dream Robbery. “I love being silly and coming up with ideas together,” he says, “so it is a complete joy to get to write them into a story that will outlive us.”
To find out more about the festival, go to tinyurl.com / TWJ—stories2021.

    十、阅读回答问题
Everyone needs friends. There is an old saying, “Friends are God’s(上帝的) way of taking care of us.” But how do you find a real friendship(友谊) and keep it?
The American writer Sally Seamans tells young students some smart ways to find friends. Sally says finding a friendship is just like planting a tree. You plant the seed(种子) and take care of it to make it grow.
First, you should choose a friend. What makes a good friend? It is not because a person has money or good looks. A good friend should be kind and patient. If you have a bad day, a good friend should listen to your complaints and do his or her best to help you. To make a friend, you cannot be too shy. You should make each other happy and share your life.
But things cannot always be happy. Even the best friends have fights. What should you do when you have a fight with your friend? You have to talk to him or her. When there is no one around, have an honest talk. If he or she doesn’t want to talk, you could write a letter.
There are three steps to be friends again: Tell him or her how you are feeling, say what your friend did wrong, and explain(解释) why you did this or that.
Remember that friendship is one of the most important things in your life.
