Tricks To Becoming A Patient Person
Here’s a riddle: What do traffic jams, long lines and waiting for a vacation to start all have in common? There is one answer. 1 .
In the Digital Age, we’re used to having what we need immediately and right at our fingertips. However, research suggests that if we practiced patience, we’d be a whole lot better off. Here are several tricks.
    ●Practice gratitude (感激)
Thankfulness has a lot of benefits: Research shows it makes us happier, less stressed and even more optimistic. 2 . “Showing thankfulness can foster self-control,” said Ye Li, researcher at the University of California.
    ● Make yourself wait
Instant gratification (满足) may seem like the most “feel good” option at the time, but psychology research suggests waiting for things actually makes us happier in the long run. And the only way for us to get into the habit of waiting is to practice. 3 . Put off watching your favorite show until the weekend or wait 10 extra minutes before going for that cake. You’ll soon find that the more patience you practice, the more you start to apply it to other, more annoying situations.
    ● 4 .
So many of us have the belief that being comfortable is the only state we will tolerate, and when we experience something outside of our comfort zone, we get impatient about the circumstances. You should learn to say to yourself, “ 5 .” You’ll then gradually become more patient.
    A.Find your causes
    B.Start with small tasks
    C.Accept the uncomfortable
D.All this adds up to a state of hurry
E.It can also help us practice more patience
F.This is merely uncomfortable, not intolerable
G.They’re all situations where we could use a little extra patience

Spending time with your families outdoors can help develop meaningful bonds, encourage love and affection, reduce stress, and can improve academic performance in children. Since you can enjoy nature and all the benefits, 6
Go to a park. Do an online search to find local parks. Whether it’s a smaller local park or a larger national park, a day-trip is an excellent way to spend a couple of hours outdoors with your family. 7
8 Instead of going to a theme park, consider going fishing, hiking or camping instead. Enjoy the natural beauty with your family instead. Some great nature-oriented vacations in the United States include the Grand Canyon, Kauai, Jackson Hole, and Lake Tahoe.
Play a game or sport outdoors. Discover which games that your children like to play the most, and make it a habit of playing them outside. 9 Outdoor sports and games include basketball, baseball, football, soccer, and lacrosse.
Take walks with the family. 10 Plan a 20-minute walk and have everyone in the family turn off their cell phones. The more you walk together, the more natural it will feel and it will encourage everyone in the family to spend more time outdoors. A great time to schedule a walk is right after dinner or before you take your children to school.
    A.Plan a nature-centred vacation.
    B.you should avoid the followings.
C.come and join us in the following ways.
D.Try to locate your family in the open air.
E.Determine a time and schedule it to take a hike with your family.
F.If you have young kids, consider taking them to the place that has activities like a playground.
G.Talk to your kids about what sports they like and make sure to get the proper equipment so that your family can all play together.

“You do not need to be a rocket scientist.” Americans hear these words often. People say them in schools, offices and factories. Broadcasters on radio and television often use them.
How did the expression begin? No one seems to know it. 11 “It grew,” he says. “Because rocket scientists probably are the most intelligent people around.”
Not everyone would agree. 12 For example, a person who speaks fifteen languages, or a medical doctor who operates on the brain. Still, many people would agree that there is something special about scientists who build rockets. Maybe it has something to do with the mystery of space travel.
Moving pictures from before World War Ⅱ showed a man named Buck Rogers landing on the planet Mars. 13 The rocket scientist is a different kind of hero. He or she makes space travel possible.
14 A Washington rocket scientist told about a launch that was put off many times. Finally, everything seemed right. Mechanical failures had been repaired. The weather was good. The scientists had planned that part of the rocket would fall into the ocean after the launch. All the ships and boats within many kilometers of the danger areas had been warned. But in the last few seconds a small boat entered the area. 15
When the work goes well, most rocket scientists enjoy their jobs. One scientist said, “As a child I loved to build the rockets. Now I am a grown-up. I still love to build rockets. And now I get paid for it.”
    A.Onceagain,the launch was put off.
B.Have you ever heard of the space travel?
C.It’s dangerous for rocket scientists to build rockets.
D.He was a hero who could withdraw any enemy from outer space.
E.Rocket scientists, however, can have problems just like everyone else.
F.Some people might be considered more intelligent than rocket scientists.
G.But an official of the American space agency, NASA, says the expression just grew.

Many people find it hard to get excited about learning new vocabulary because they believe it is only about rote memorization (死记硬背). 21 Whether you’re learning a new language or improving your current (现在的) one, there are a variety of tools you can use to help you really learn, not just memorize, new words.
Integrate (融入) the new words into your environment. Hang large blank pieces of paper in places you frequent, like the bathroom or kitchen. 22 That way you’ll find yourself frequently noticing them as you go about your day. You can also draw a small picture showing the meaning of the word beside it.
Make the new words part of your life. 23 For example, if you want to learn to use the word “azure”, a bright blue color, write it into several sentences that relate to your current situation: “My new cup is a beautiful azure color.”
24 The more fun you can make your vocabulary learning time, the more likely you are to do it and team from it. There are a number of free vocabulary-learning games online. Make the most of these resources, and you will make unexpected progress.
Revise the words. Not everyone has a great memory (记忆力). 25 After revising them a couple of times, make sure you are confident with their use.
    A.Turn learning into a game.
B.Luckily, that’s far from the case.
C.Choose a book that you would like to read.
D.You can write new words into sentences related to your own life.

G.You want to have somewhere to look up the meaning of the word when you need to.

You get a text message. How soon do you usually respond to it? Should you respond right away? 26 When do you cross the line into rudeness? They are a heated topic that etiquette (礼仪) experts Elaine Swann and Diane Gottsman are asked about frequently.
Nowadays, we can contact each other electronically at any time. “Texting is efficient, easy and timely,” Swann and Gottsman said about the popular way of communicating. 27 For example, time-sensitive messages should be answered as soon as possible, while for non-urgent ones, we can have more time for them.
28 Swann shared her experience—she didn’t reply to a text received one Saturday until the following Thursday. “I found it embarrassing,” she admitted, “but the question she asked me required quite a bit of thought and insight. So I needed to take my time. Fortunately, she greatly appreciated it because my response was thoughtful.”
Imagine the situation is reversed we’re the ones waiting for an important text. When we don’t hear from somebody, we’d better consider other forms of communication. Don’t try to make up our own story since we don’t always draw the picture correctly. 29
We should also obey certain etiquette. And part of it is understanding that the top priority should be given to the people you are physically with in the real world 30 You can always wait a moment later to respond to a text.
A.Are you usually careless at this moment?
B.Even etiquette experts get stuck sometimes.
C.Both think the appropriate response time depends on what the text is about.
D.Can you wait a bit until your work on hand is finished?

Vacation often starts with a wonderful idea. 31 With a little bit of preparation and effort, travelers can overcome 90% of the difficulties they may face during a trip. Here are useful tips on how to plan a trip.
Picking the right destination according to the season is a key factor in planning a trip successfully. 32 Usually, the ideal season to visit beaches, mountains and forests is completely different. Also take the cost factor into consideration. Going to a luxury destination during the shoulder season can result in some good discounts on hotels and flights.
Another key aspect of a good trip planning is to correctly estimate the number of days required. 33 Some travelers like to see new cities every day, whereas some prefer taking it slow. You’d better leave an empty day in travel plans in which there are more than 7 days so that things like terrible weather won’t mess up the whole arrangement.
34 Prices of flights and accommodations rise over time if you are planning for a vacation that falls during the peak season of that particular destination. So making a reservation a few months in advance will help you avoid additional costs.
Pack wisely and do necessary research. An extra shirt, sweater, or jumper can prove handy during trips where the weather is expected to be cold or rainy. As responsible tourists, travelers must know the destination they are visiting. 35 Because it helps them avoid conflict or disrespect to the locals.
    A.Early booking is recommended.
    B.Learn about the do’s and don’s.
C.Make the most of every traveling day.
D.But not everyone has a reasonable vacation plan.
E.It often depends on the travel plans and purpose.
F.Check out the best time to visit the place you like.
G.Something unexpected, however, makes it end up being a trouble.

    Personal Forgiveness
Taking responsibility for mistakes is a positive step, but don’t beat yourself up about them. To err (犯错) is human. 36 You can use the following writing exercise to help you do this.
In a journal or on a piece of paper, put the heading “Personal strengths.” 37 Are you caring? Creative? Generous? A good listener? Fun to be around? They don’t have to be world-changing, just aspects of your personality that you’re proud of.
At the top of a second page, put the heading “Acts of kindness.” On this one, list all the positive things you’ve done for others. It might be the time when you helped a friend with their homework, when you did the ironing without being asked, or when you baked cookies after the family had had a tiring day. 38
You could ask a friend or family member to help add to your list. 39 That way, you could exchange thoughts on what makes each of you special and the aspects of your personality that shine through. In fact, don’t wait until you’ve made a mistake to try this — it’s a great way to boost self-confidence at any time.
It’s something of a cliché (陈词滥调) that most people learn not from their successes but their mistakes. The thing is, it’s true. 40 We’ re all changing and learning all the time and mistakes are a positive way to develop and grow.
A.A little self-forgiveness also goes a long way.
B.Now list all the characteristics you like about yourself.
C.They might even like to have a go at doing the exercise.
D.It’s just as important to show yourself some forgiveness.
E.It doesn’t mean you have to ignore what’s happened or forget it.
F.Whatever it is, no matter how small it might seem, write it down.
G.Whatever the mistake, remember it isn’t a fixed aspect of your personality.

As an artist who shares her journey on social media, I’m often asked by curious followers how to begin an art journey. Unfortunately, there is no magic list I can offer. I do remember, though, what it was like to be a complete beginner. So I’ve put together some good tips for starting an art journey.
·Start small. I suggest using a sketchbook (素描本) for small studies. These small studies provide inspiration and may be a springboard for more complex works in the future. 41 You’ll want to look back on your journey to see how far you’ve come.
·Paint often and paint from life. There’s no better way to improve than to put in those brush miles. Whether you paint still lifes, portraits, or landscapes, paint from life as much as possible. 42
·Continually challenge yourself to try something new. 43 Artistic growth can be a bit painful. Welcome to the club;we’ve all been there. I love taking on challenges. I once took up a challenge to create a painting every day for a month and post the works online.
    · 44 Seeking and accepting constructive feedback (反馈) is crucial to growth. I post my work on social media and, in turn, have met some of the kindest people. They make me feel valued and respected, no matter my level of artistic ability.
The journey you’re on won’t follow a straight path. 45 Push through, give it time and put in the effort. You will harvest the rewards of an artistic life.
A.Get out of your comfort zone.
B.Make career plans and set goals.
C.Don’t throw away your beginner art.
D.Share your work if you feel comfortable doing so.
E.You’ll hit roadblocks, and you’ll feel discouraged at times.
F.Evaluate your performance and, if needed, redefine your role.
G.You’ll develop that painting muscle memory that only comes with repetition.

Many people have a fear of public speaking. They try to avoid public speaking because they worry that they will lose their words, bore the audience (听众) or somehow make a fool of themselves. 46 You may give a talk in a class or a meeting. Or you’ll give a toast (敬酒) at a wedding. Maybe you’ll have to give an acceptance speech for some honor you’ve received. Follow these steps to satisfy your audience and get rid of (摆脱) your fear of speaking in public.
Know your topic. Try to speak about a subject you know well. 47 Public speaking is harder when you look like an outsider.
Relax. 48 Your audience don’t expect you to be. They want you to succeed just as much as you can do. Let out nervousness by giving up all your anxious thoughts. If you’re thinking you’ll forget everything, remind yourself that you are prepared.
49 You are not Jack Canfield or Tony Robbins. So, don’t try to copy what you think a public speaker should be. Share your true personality with your audience. Don’t pretend to be somebody that you’re not.
Pay attention to a few main points. 50 Your audience will not remember every little detail you tell them. They’ll be satisfied if they leave with something they can use, and that is what public speaking is all about.
    A.Be yourself.
B.Know who you will speak to.
C.Don’t push yourself to be perfect.
D.Everyone has to speak publicly at some point in their life.
E.Research into the topic to make sure that you fully understand the details of it.
F.What’s the most important is that you have to be prepared for what you are going to say.
G.You’d better base your speech on 2 or 3 main points and pay attention to these main points.

You know you really want to do well in your study. Your parents have put the pressure on you, or you have promised yourself you will do better. 66 How can you solve the problem? The following tips may give you a hand.
Find a place that makes you want to study. If the books and seriousness of the library put you in the mood for focusing on study, go for it. If the comfortable chairs and coffee at your local café are what you need to get through your reading for English, go there. 67
Set a study schedule. When you have many subjects to study, it can seem hard to get through everything. Give yourself a schedule where you set specific times to study particular subjects. 68 Besides, change subjects every two hours. A little variety keeps you refreshed and focused.
69 If you find yourself distracted from studying by thoughts about something else, spend 5 minutes thinking about them, but then tell yourself studying is your main task now. If you are tired of study, step away from it. A short break helps refresh you so that you can stay focused when you come back to studying.
Turn off the electronic devices. Texting, social media, calls and other distractions that come from your electronic devices are some of the biggest barriers to staying focused when you are studying. 70 Turn off the distracting electronic devices!
A.Give yourself a brief study break.
B.Get yourself clear about the study task.
    C.But you keep getting distracted!
D.Luckily, the fix is easy and totally within your control.
E.There’s no doubt that a library is the best place for studying well.
F.This makes studying seem less difficult, helping you stay on task.
G.The most important thing is that the location motivates you to study.

Why Can’t People Avoid Touching Museum Objects?
When paying a visit to the British Museum, you can see visitors touch objects even if the museum rules say no touching is permitted. 71 You stop some people from touching while there are more.
Most museum-going is still a chiefly visual (视觉的) experience for visitors to appreciate the works of art. 72 Moreover, in the past few years more and more museums have been trying to involve additional senses, like sounds and smells. But touch, especially, is only allowed in certain areas, like the Louvre’s Touch Gallery, or the British Museum’s Hands On Desks.
73 When people visited the collection, the objects were passed around. Museums continued with this spirit of openness at first. But with museums growing, the spirit no longer existed. When you’ve got four million visitors a year, you can hardly have everybody touch something. People are difficult to deal with and likely to damage the artworks. So the rule against touching artworks makes great sense. Smaller museums still sometimes encourage visitors to touch their objects. 74
Why are we so unwilling to keep our hands to ourselves? 75 But there’s a larger truth. You can’t really learn more about exhibits if you don’t touch them. Others say they want to feel how deep an engraving (雕刻) goes, in order to understand the artistic skills better. In this way, touching is part of trying to somehow establish relationship with the past.
A.At the beginning, touch was allowed in museums.
B.However, the bigger ones would rather advertise themselves as no touching.
C.Some people just want to ensure the artworks are real.
D.Visitors can find out more about exhibits from reading signs around.
E.Museum guards say it’s impossible to prevent people from breaking the no-touch rule.
F.It helps to show respect for the ancient artists.
G.Before there were museums, there were curiosity rooms full of interesting objects from all over the world.

Life comes in a package. This package includes happiness and sorrow, failure and success, hope and despair. Life is a learning process. 86 With each passing day we learn to handle various situations.
    1. Love
Love plays a key role in our life. 87 In the early stage of our life, our parents are the ones who show us with unconditional love and care. They teach us about what is right and what is wrong. But we always tend to take this for granted. It is only after getting married and having kids that a person understands and becomes sensitive to others’ feelings.
    2. Happiness and Sorrow
Materialistic happiness is short-lived, but happiness achieved by bringing a smile to someone’s face gives a certain level of fulfillment. Peace of mind is the main link to happiness. 88 We realize the true worth of happiness when we are in sorrow. Sorrow is basically due to death of a loved one, failure or despair.
    3. Failure and Success
89 It helps us to touch the sky, teaches us to survive and shows us a specific way. Success brings in money, fame, pride and self-respect. So failure becomes very important to keep calm.
    4. Hope and Despair
Hope is what keeps life going. Parents always hope their children will do well. Hope makes us dream. 90 Because after every night there is a day. Nothing remains the same.
A.Failure is the path to success.

F.Experiences in life teach us new lessons and make us a better person.
G.The only choice is to work hard today so that we will enjoy a better tomorrow.

Traditional American summer camps offer young people a chance to play many sports. These camps may be in the mountains. 91 Some camps teach activities like painting or music. Or they teach computer programming or foreign languages. Children at all kinds of camps meet new friends.
Some children go to camp during the day and return home at night. 92 Children stay at an overnight camp for between one and eight weeks. Parents need to pay. Children from poor families might not have a chance to attend summer camps. The Fresh Air Fund is a well-known organization.
93 Each summer it sends ten thousand poor children to stay with families in the country or to five camps in New York State.
94 Many American women now work outside the home. Working parents need a place where their children can be cared for during the summer when they are not in school.
Young people who like the arts can learn about painting, music, acting or writing. Camps that offer programs in science and environmental studies are popular, too. There are also camps for older children who like wilderness adventure. 95 Or, they go rock-climbing or horse-riding.
    A.What on are summer camps?

Green architecture is designed in an environmentally-friendly way. Many people think interest in green architecture has only begun in recent years. 96 Our ancient ancestors were intelligent. They also knew the fact that green architecture is more able to fit in with nature and more practical.
97 These include heating and cooling, water usage, environmental quality and energy usage. Architects can deal with all of these in various ways, all of which are designed to increase efficiency without affecting the function of the building.
To make it, much of green architecture focuses on building intelligently. For example, plumbing systems (管道系统) may be designed to use less water while still functioning normally. 98
Many architects build environmentally to show people that it’s possible. And they want to show the fact that being environmentally-friendly does not have to make a building bad-looking. 99 A courtyard with plants, for example, can be nicer to view.
The green design can be kept in mind when we build various future buildings, ranging from a private home to a tall office building. Green designs can also be applied to remodeling (改造) and repairing existing buildings. 100 Many governments are thus encouraging remodeling and repairing instead of building new ones.
A.The goal is to make a building prettier.
B.Not many buildings have great green designs.
C.A green building’s design need solve many problems.
D.In fact, humans have tried green architecture for thousands of years.
E.After all, pulling down a building can quite damage the environment.
F.Actually, many of the green designs can make a building more beautiful.
G.And smart lighting would turn off when people are not around to save energy.

Do you compare yourself to other people? Perhaps your best friend received something you really wanted for Christmas, or you’re not allowed to go to a concert but your brother or sister is. Comparisons are normal and can sometimes be helpful. 101
Why does focusing yourself matter? We tend to compare ourselves to others who are doing better or not as well as ourselves, but comparing your achievements to your past self (where you started) and your future self (where you’d like to get to) can be more positive. 102 . And you will be excited about what you might do. Focusing on your own goals is more rewarding than always trying to come out on top.
Comparing yourself to those around you is natural and we often do it without realizing. It can help us to measure our achievement and to form friendships with new people who have similar interests. 103 , especially online and on social media. Taking note of how the comparison is making you feel matters, too. 104 , choose a different role model or focus on your own strengths and what you’re good at. It can help to boost your self-esteem and you`ll be in high spirits again after doing so.
Jealousy and envy are ordinary emotions, but focusing on improving your own performance can help you feel successful. 105 . It can help not only to boost your friend’s mood but can also help you feel good. It will encourage you to build each other up.
    A.When you take notes
B.If you begin to feel quite low
C.In addition, celebrate success with your friends.
D.Also, learn to celebrate your friend’s achievements
E.This can make you feel proud of what you’ve achieved
F.However, focusing on your own progress is important for your well-being
G.However, it’s important to be realistic and remember that nobody is perfect

I grew up in the countryside of Poland. It’s an area where skiing is popular, but my family was poor. I couldn’t afford to ride the ski lift, so I used to hike up with the skis on my back. 106
K2(乔戈里峰)is called “death mountain”. You may hear sad stories: For every four people who reach the top, one dies. I was too afraid to even think about skiing down it. 107
But that changed after a training exploration to Broad Peak. I got a clear look at K2’s massive face, and it inspired me. Over time, my skills improved and, by 2017, I didn’t feel the fear anymore. I began preparations.
108 I love nature, and I love setting goals. To be the first to do it just adds to the challenge. Fear is an important part of life, but to ski down K2, I had to stop being afraid. At the base camp, I felt cam and prepared. There were doubts-I just knew I could do it. But there were challenges. At the third base camp, 7, 000 meters up, my safety guide suffered serious back pain. We waited for 36 hours before he got better, and we decided to continue. In total, it took about 3 days to reach the top.
For many climbers, getting to the top of K2 would be the defining moment of their lives. 109 Skiing down a mountain demands patience and endurance(耐力).
The most dangerous part was the Messner Traverse. It’s pure ice, up to a 75-degree angle in places, with drops on either side. You need to keep your tums and movements smooth with confidence. No one had attempted it before, so it was a relief(宽慰)to cross it. 110 When I eventually skied into camp, I simply lay in the snow, emotionally and physically tired out.
I’m so proud of what I achieved. No one thought it could be done. It taught me the value of patience and that nobody else can make your dreams come true.
A.Have you ever tried extreme sports?
B.It turned out that this was good practice.
C.But for me, it was where the real challenge began.
D.Even the best ski mountaineer thought it impossible.
E.In total, going down the mountain took about 7 hours.
F.Why attempt such an impressive and difficult achievement?
G.If you overcome fears and difficulties, you will surely make it to the top.

Nowadays, many of us are finding ourselves tired out, struggling to build balance back into our lives. 111 Spending time near oceans, lakes, rivers and other bule spaces can provide a range of benefits including reducing anxiety, easing mental tiredness and refreshing us. Here is some advice on how to take advantage of the healing power of water.
112 You likely have some water close by, even if it is just a pond alongside the road. Start there. Then get out to water you can visit on the weekend or a vacation. Urban water counts—rivers, canals and fountains. 113 If you can’t get to actual water, then paintings, photographs, videos and movies can produce some of the same benefits. Even virtual reality helps.
Go often. A little bit makes a big difference. 114 But an environmental psychologist found that spending a similar amount of time near water has the same benefits. Even people who look into aquariums(水族箱) have lower heart rates and better moods after just 15 minutes.
Listen. One of the most calming characteristics of water is its sound, typically steady and soft. The water sounds people find having the strongest healing power are rain in a rainforest, waves patting a beach, and a running stream. When the sounds of living things are added to the sounds of water, people like them even better. Make an audio recording of your favorite water. 115
    A.Remember that all water counts.
B.It will bring back happy memories.
C.Stay in a place surrounded by water.
D.According to researchers, water can help us.
E.So does domestic water-in pools, bathtubs, even by fish tanks.
F.Spending some time every day near water can speed up our recovery.
G.It takes at least two hours a week in nature to improve our well-being.

New rules and behavior standards for middle school students came out in March. The middle school is going to use a new way to decide who the top students are. 116 They will also be kids who don’t dye their hair, smoke or drink. The following are some of the new rules.
Tell the truth. Have you ever copied from someone else in an exam? 117 That’s not something an honest student should do.
Do more at school. Good students love animals and care for other people. April is the Bird-Loving Month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate it? You should join! 118
Be open to new ideas. Have you ever thought that people could live on the moon? Perhaps you’ll discover EarthⅡ someday. Don’t look down on new ideas. 119 You should welcome them.
Protect yourself. Has anyone ever taken money from one of your classmates? Don’t let it happen to you. If you have to go home late, you should let your parents know.
Use the Internet carefully. The Internet can be very useful for your studies. But some things on the Internet aren’t for kids, so try to look at web pages that are good for you. 120
    A.Don’t do it again!
    B.Everyone’s ideas are important.
C.Students must only study and play alone.
D.You can use the web for fun or homework.
E.The best students won’t only have high marks.
F.Students should not disagree with the teacher.
G.In that way, you can learn more about animals and how to protect them.

Follow these simple rules to guide your life in a better way no matter what your age and stage of life are.
First and foremost, be kind. 121 Once we reached eighth grade, many of us got the idea that the superior smile, and the clever one-liner are the signs of intelligence and great personal strength.
Go to the party even when you don’t want to. Nine times out of ten, you’ll be bored and go home early. 122 It will pay you more than those other wasted hours.
123 I mean, literally, pause reading this column, pick up the phone, and book that skydiving session. RIGHT NOW. Don’t put it off until you have the time to really relax and enjoy it. 124
Be grateful. No matter how awful your life seems at the moment, you have something to be grateful for. 125 You are a billionaire! Billionaires, however, won’t get a penny from the universe for the time you spent brooding about the unfairness. You lose those seconds just as surely as you lose a second spent experiencing joy. They don’t even give you something nice to remember them by.
A.Being mean is easy; being kind is hard.
B.The thing you want to do someday? Do it now.
C.It’s highly possible that you won’t be able to enjoy it.
D.Always order one extra dish — an unfamiliar one — at a restaurant.
E.The words “You are amazing and here’s a way” never go out of style.
F.You have been granted 2 billion seconds on this planet, give or take.
G.But for the tenth time, you will have a worthy experience or meet an interesting person.

Doing well in science depends on developing effective study skills and learning to take part in class. It includes doing a good job in labs as well. If you’ve got good study skills that you’ve got in other courses, you’ll want to learn to do a good job in labs as well. 126 .
    Read the given material (材料)
When your teacher gives you material from a textbook or a website, take time to read it before class. 127 . Many teachers will go over the same material you were given as the discussion in class. If you’ve read the material, you’ll be prepared to answer questions and join in discussion.
Bring all necessary materials to your lab
Besides your lab notebook, you’ll need sharp pencils, a black pen, a calculator, and other things your teacher requests. Dressing properly will also be important for your success in labs. Wear clean, comfortable clothes. You’ll probably stand a lot during your lab class. 128 .
    Take clear notes
The notes you take in class will help you know what to study in class. 129 . Instead, pay careful attention to the information your teacher specially suggests. It is likely to be included on tests. If there’s anything in your notes that confuses you, or that you feel might be wrong, check with your teacher or a classmate to make sure that you have the right information.
    130
Science classes often have demonstrations (演示) done by the teacher or other students which you re expected to be able to replicate (复制). If you’re going to do well in science, it’s a good idea to pay close attention to any demonstration that’s done in class. Do make sure you can watch the demonstration.
    A.Copy others’ notes
    B.Here are some helpful tips
    C.Pay attention to demonstrations
D.So you’d better wear comfortable shoes
E.You might also be able to demonstrate it in a lab
F.Don’t try to write down everything that the teacher says
G.If you don’t have time, quickly read it to know what it’s about

You’ve probably been hearing that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for the better part of your life. Things like “it’s brain food” or “it actually speeds up your metabolism (新陈代谢)” are commonly cited as reasons to eat your breakfast. 131 .
Scientists are unsure that breakfast can speed up your metabolism
That’s right; 132 . And it’s not only scientists that say that! Nutritionists also agree: “Eating breakfast doesn’t affect the metabolic rate in the way people like to say it does. There are studies to support breakfast eating for weight management, but not for a calorie-burning boost.”
    133
Don’t be fooled by the beauty of that chocolate chip pancake. That is NOT going to help you lose weight. Hate to break it to you, but the calories you consume at breakfast matter just as much as the calories you eat at every other meal. So unless you eat something like bran (糠), which isn’t so easy on the stomach, with the smallest piece of apple ever, you’re basically out of luck.
If you’re trying to gain weight, you can ignore most breakfast advice
Although breakfast may not be the be-all and end-all for weight loss, we admit it can help. But what if you want to live in the way you like? Then you can totally ignore breakfast. 134 .
Not to burst your bubble, but something doesn’t quite add up
In theory, eating breakfast helps control your appetite and hunger. But 135 , what’s to stop you from eating those fries at lunch? So if a bowl of fries looks good, a bowl of fries shall be eaten.
    A.That means no breakfast
B.It is not a “magic bullet” for weight loss
C.Well, breakfast haters, your day has finally come
D.Then you can sleep in, eat like a wolf at lunch, and be on your way
E.There are a lot of unhealthy breakfast foods that you may think aren’t
F.if you’re not eating the right food to satisfy your hunger at breakfast
G.there is no proof of a direct link between breakfast and a speedier metabolism

Scientists help to explain how the world around us works, and carry out experiments to create new things. To become a scientist, you need a college degree and various professional skills. 136
Understand scientist description and responsibilities. Scientists are responsible for examining and exploring different aspects of the physical world. All their exploration processes are done by following a set of rules known as the scientific method. 137 Of course, they also have different specific work responsibilities. If you want to be a scientist in a certain field, you need to continue to have a deep understanding of professional work responsibilities.
138 The influence of every profession is double-sided. As a scientist, it may bring you some achievements and benefits, but it also has some professional disadvantages. So before you want to be a scientist, you should have a detailed understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of scientists.
Go through college. 139 Overall studying is important to become a professional scientist. You can learn all kinds of related knowledge systematically at college and lay a solid foundation for your future career.
Get internship (实习) opportunities. Try to find part-time jobs during the university period. In this way, you can obtain real work experience while studying, which is very valuable for you and will definitely be helpful for your real career in the future. 140 When you find a relevant scientist job, apply for it.
A scientist’s career path is often the result of a series of chance meetings, unexpected events and changes in personal circumstances. You should not be afraid to follow your own unique route.
A.Try to avoid the influence of others.
B.Next, you will have detailed information.
C.So make use of your rich experience if any.
D.Think about whether it is worthwhile to be a scientist.

F.Scientists in different fields may specialize in different subjects.
G.Systematic learning in university is the basis of becoming a scientist.

It is never easy to deal with all the unwanted bullying (欺凌) even when you have done nothing wrong. 141 . There is no simple solution when it comes to bullying but keep in mind that there is only one goal, to stop the situation from becoming worse.
    Ask Them To Stop
Asking the bully to stop is sometimes an effective measure to deal with them. Sometimes when we do not speak up for ourselves, 142 . Telling them to stop in a firm and confident voice can make them reconsider their actions. This will work only if they have not yet established a pattern of bullying you.
    Be Accompanied
143 . If you are with your friends, or if you are in the company of someone, it is least likely that the bully will disturb you. We are not asking you to make a huge circle of friends, sometimes, all it takes is one loyal friend who will stay by you no matter what.
    Ignore Them
Another effective measure to ignore a bully is by ignoring them. When you do not react to what they say or do no matter how hurtful it may be for you, 144 . They think of it as a game, and when they get an emotional response from you it satisfies their ego.
Turn The Situation Into A Joke
Some of us are born comedians and we can turn almost anything into a joke. If you are one of these people, try to take advantage of your gift. Turn the situation the bully has created into a joke or just say something funny. This will break the bully’s confidence and they will know that you are strong and sure about who you are. 145 .
A.This will make them back off
B.they start to lose interest in you
C.They will hurt you over and over again
D.you can always shift a focus to bystanders
E.Bullies usually hunt for people who are alone
F.But doing nothing in return will only result in more bullying
G.the bullies continue with their behavior thinking of us as an easy target

Seniors seem really big. The seniors will walk in with a swagger(趾高气扬). They have an understanding of the school that you don’t, and you can see it in their excitement about being at the top of the high school ladder. 147 They were once where you were and one day you will be one of those seniors.
148 Your coursework will increase significantly, and expectations from your teachers will be much greater. You’ll have more homework, more papers, and harder exams. Learning how to study well is very important in high school.
149 One of the great things about high school is that there are so many opportunities to take part in activities that interest you. Taking part in extracurricular activities allows you to meet new people, find out what you’re interested in, and explore more of who you are.
You need to be more organized. With all the new opportunities, you will need to be more organized during your fresh year. 【导语】本文为一篇说明文。人们普遍认为早餐很重要,文章提出了对于讨厌吃早餐的人会认同的四个观点。
131.根据上文“You’ve probably been hearing that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for the better part of your life. Things like ‘it’s brain food’ or ‘it actually speeds up your metabolism(新陈代谢)’ are commonly cited as reasons to eat your breakfast.
132.本段小标题“Scientists are unsure that breakfast can speed up your metabolism (科学家不确定早餐是否能加速新陈代谢)”可知,科学家没有依据来证明早餐是否能加速新陈代谢,G项“there is no proof of a direct link between breakfast and a speedier metabolism (没有证据表明早餐和更快的新陈代谢之间有直接联系)”可知,metabolism为复现词,G项承接上文,解释了小标题中,科学家们不能确定早餐是否能加速新陈代谢的原因,上下文语意一致,故选G项。
133.此处考查小标题。根据本段内容“Don’t be fooled by the beauty of that chocolate chip pancake. (不要被巧克力薄饼的美丽所欺骗。这不会帮助你减肥。我不想打断你,但是你在早餐中摄入的卡路里和你在其他每顿饭中摄入的卡路里一样重要。所以除非你吃糠之类的东西,这对胃不太好,吃最小的一块苹果,你基本上就没那么幸运了。)”可知,本段讲述“早餐与减肥”的问题,B项“It is not a ‘magic bullet’ for weight loss (它不是减肥的‘灵丹妙药’)”与本段第二句“That is NOT going to help you lose weight”意思相近,故选B项。
134.本段小标题If you’re trying to gain weight, you can ignore most breakfast advice (如果你想增重,你可以忽略大多数早餐建议),本段讲述“早餐与增重”的问题,根据上文“Although breakfast may not be the be-all and end-all for weight loss, we admit it can help. But what if you want to live in the way you like? Then you can totally ignore breakfast. (虽然早餐可能不是减肥的全部和最终目的,但我们承认它是有帮助的。但如果你想以自己喜欢的方式生活呢?那你就可以完全忽略早餐了。)”可知,想以自己喜欢的方式生活,结合小标题,设空处应用“增重”有关,D项“Then you can sleep in, eat like a wolf at lunch, and be on your way (然后你可以睡个懒觉,狼吞虎咽地吃午饭,然后就可以在增重的路上)”,句中的eat like a wolf at lunch与本段小标题If you’re trying to gain weight相呼应,故选D项。
135.根据上文“In theory, eating breakfast helps control your appetite and hunger. (从理论上讲,吃早餐有助于控制食欲和饥饿感。)”可知,吃早餐有助于控制食欲和饥饿感在理论上是成立的,空前有But,上文与设空处为转折关系,下文“what’s to stop you from eating those fries at lunch? So if a bowl of fries looks good, a bowl of fries shall be eaten. (有什么能阻止你在午餐时吃薯条呢?因此,如果一碗薯条看起来不错,就应该吃一碗薯条。)”可知,在午餐时吃薯条,想吃就吃吧,F项“if you’re not eating the right food to satisfy your hunger at breakfast (如果你在早餐时没有吃正确的食物来充饥)”,下文的问句是以F项作为条件的,早餐没吃对,导致产生饥饿感,并导致午餐时食欲增加,上下文衔接连贯,故选F项。

137.后文“Of course, they also have different specific work responsibilities. If you want to be a scientist in a certain field, you need to continue to have a deep understanding of professional work responsibilities.(当然,他们也有不同的具体工作职责。如果你想成为某一领域的科学家,你需要继续对专业工作职责有深刻的理解。)”提到不同领域的科学家的职责,建议对这些职责有深刻理解,F项“Scientists in different fields may specialize in different subjects.(不同领域的科学家可能专攻不同的学科。)”符合语境,说明科学家专攻不同的学科,引出后文的不同工作职责,后文的“also”是对选项内容的延伸。故选F。
138.空处位于段首,是段落主旨句,需概括段落内容。后文“The influence of every profession is double-sided. As a scientist, it may bring you some achievements and benefits, but it also has some professional disadvantages. So before you want to be a scientist, you should have a detailed understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of scientists.(任何职业的影响都是双面的。作为一名科学家,它可能会给你带来一些成就和好处,但它也有一些专业上的缺点。所以在你想成为一名科学家之前,你应该对科学家的优点和缺点有一个详细的了解。)”说明科学家的职业有利有弊,建议要考虑利弊,D项“Think about whether it is worthwhile to be a scientist.(想想当科学家是否值得。)”符合语境,建议思考是否值得,可统领段落内容。故选D。
139.前文“Go through college.(读完大学。)”建议读完大学,后文“Overall studying is important to become a professional scientist.(全面学习对成为一名专业科学家很重要。)”说明大学的全面学习的重要性,G项“Systematic learning in university is the basis of becoming a scientist.(大学里系统的学习是成为科学家的基础。)”符合语境,承上启下。故选G。
140.前文“Try to find part-time jobs during the university period. In this way, you can obtain real work experience while studying, which is very valuable for you and will definitely be helpful for your real career in the future.(在大学期间尽量找些兼职工作。这样,你可以在学习的同时获得真正的工作经验,这对你来说是非常宝贵的,对你未来的真正的职业生涯肯定会有帮助。)”说明要去找兼职工作,积累经验,E项“You can find such chances through special part-time websites.(你可以通过专门的兼职网站找到这样的机会。)”符合语境,介绍找兼职工作的途径,承接前文。故选E。
    141.F 142.G 143.E 144.B 145.A

    【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了校园欺凌应对策略。
141.根据上文“It is never easy to deal with all the unwanted bullying (欺凌) even when you have done nothing wrong.(即使你没有做错任何事,要处理所有不想要的欺凌从来都不是一件容易的事)”以及后文“There is no simple solution when it comes to bullying but keep in mind that there is only one goal, to stop the situation from becoming worse.(当涉及到欺凌时,没有简单的解决方案,但请记住,只有一个目标,阻止情况变得更糟)”可知,后文与上文构成转折,指出不能任由欺凌发生,因此后句提到了应对校园欺凌的解决办法。故F选项“但是什么都不做只会导致更多的欺凌”符合语境,故选F。
142.根据上文“Asking the bully to stop is sometimes an effective measure to deal with them. Sometimes when we do not speak up for ourselves(要求恶霸停下来有时是对付他们的有效措施。有时候当我们不为自己说话的时候)”可知,本句承接上文,继续说明不为自己说话会到导致的后果:霸凌者继续他们的行为,认为我们是一个容易的目标。故G选项“霸凌者继续他们的行为,认为我们是一个容易的目标”符合语境,故选G。
143.根据后文“If you are with your friends, or if you are in the company of someone, it is least likely that the bully will disturb you. We are not asking you to make a huge circle of friends, sometimes, all it takes is one loyal friend who will stay by you no matter what.(如果你和你的朋友在一起,或者你和别人在一起,恶霸最不可能打扰你。我们并不是要求你建立一个庞大的朋友圈,有时候,你所需要的只是一个无论如何都会陪伴在你身边的忠实朋友)”可知,后文提到了和朋友在一起会减少霸凌,说明形单影只的人常是被欺凌对象。故E选项“恶霸们通常会寻找孤独的人”符合语境,故选E。
144.根据上文“When you do not react to what they say or do no matter how hurtful it may be for you(当你对他们所说或所做的事没有反应时,不管这对你有多伤害)”以及后文“They think of it as a game, and when they get an emotional response from you it satisfies their ego.(他们认为这是一场游戏,当他们从你那里得到情感回应时,他们的自我就得到了满足)”可知,当你对欺凌者的任何言行不予回应的时候,欺凌者自然而然觉得无趣,否则情感回应只会让他们得到满足。故B选项“他们开始对你失去兴趣”符合语境,故选B。
145.根据上文“Some of us are born comedians and we can turn almost anything into a joke. If you are one of these people, try to take advantage of your gift. Turn the situation the bully has created into a joke or just say something funny. This will break the bully’s confidence and they will know that you are strong and sure about who you are.(我们中的一些人是天生的喜剧演员,我们几乎可以把任何事情变成笑话。如果你是这些人中的一员,试着利用你的天赋。把恶霸制造的情况变成一个笑话,或者只是说一些有趣的事情。这将打破恶霸的信心,他们会知道你很强大,很确定你是谁)”可知,本段意为当你面临欺凌时,你要善于运用你的风趣的智慧巧妙化解险情,让欺凌者知道你是一个坚强豁达之人,从而让欺凌者知难而退。故A选项“这会让他们退缩”符合语境,故选A。
