Sometimes it’s as simple as looking at your own industry. __9__ What are the biggest topics and the most significant concerns for your potential clients? Finding out what these issues are can stimulate you to think of your business, your products, your services, and your presentation in a new way.
Ideas can hit you at any time, in any place. You never know where you’ll get a fantastic idea, and you don’t want to take chances on forgetting something fantastic. I keep a pocket-sized Moleskine notebook with me at all times so I can jot down ideas at a moment’s notice. Weeds, the fast-growing plants that cannot be eaten and do not bring flowers, are a common problem for gardeners. Some use chemicals to kill weeds. Others pull them up by hand or with heavy machinery. Luckily, there are other ways to limit their growth.
For starters, there are mulches (护根物) which can bury weeds. Mulches are made from organic material, such as leaves, grass cuttings, and small pieces of wood. They are spread over the ground in a garden to control weeds. Organic mulches break down over time. ____11____ That is not a bad thing, because their decomposition (分解) creates nutrients for plants and humus (腐殖质) to keep soils wet and full of fresh air.
Plastic mulch is another way to stop weeds. Common black plastic is easy to lay down. It also effectively blocks weeds and helps soil warm faster in the spring. ____12____ A reflective plastic mulch, for example, keeps some plant-eating insects away. A major problem with plastic is that it breaks apart over time, so eventually it needs to be thrown away, plus it adds nothing to the soil as far as nutrients or humus. ____13____
Finally, in addition to direct attacks on weeds, how you plant your garden can indirectly influence weed growth. For example, close spacing of plants in the garden blocks sunlight from reaching the ground and can limit weed growth. And using a watering method known as drip irrigation will direct small amounts of water to the roots of your plants instead of the weeds. ____14____ Lying in soil are millions of weed seeds just waiting to be awakened by light and air.
____15____ Instead, your goal is simply to limit their growth in the garden.
A.So you must add more to your garden often.
B.So it is by far the best support for plant growth.
C.And plastic also can block air from reaching the soil.
D.A small group of geese can clear weeds in half a hectare of land.
E.Whether or not you dig up your soil also influences weed growth.
F.Using any or all of these methods will not permanently stop weed growth.
G.Recent experiments with other colored plastic have shown effects on both bugs and plant growth.

Men and The Art of Listening
The world today is moving at a so high pace that we rarely stop to listen to each other. We’ve all been in conversations with someone who we felt wasn’t listening. They may keep looking at their watch or at other people around them. They nod and say yes — but we feel like a stranger talking to a wall.____16____. It’s even more of an issue for us as men when it comes to how we relate to one another.

He gifts us expediences of strength and courage that power us forward into the big wide world — a world he walks with us so as to better assure that we will be able to explore and navigate its nettles (荨麻) without being held back by our fears or worries.

How Important Is Alone Time for Mental Health?
People tend to be social creatures, and research has shown that social connections are vital for both emotional and physical well-being. _____86_____ The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated both the challenges of loneliness and a lack of alone time. Having time for yourself gives you the chance to break free from social pressures and tap into your own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Why is it important to be alone?
    Creativity
_____87_____ Research actually suggests that being alone can lead to changes in the brain that help fuel the creative process.
In a 2020 study published in the journal Nature Communications, researchers found that perceived social isolation (loneliness) led to increased activity in the neural circuits related to imagination. When left with a lack of social stimulation, the brain increases its creative networks to help fill the blank.
    Social Energy
_____88_____ However, researchers have found that people who live alone may actually have richer social lives and more social energy than people who don’t.
Sociologist Eric Klineberg notes that one in seven U.S. adults lives alone. Klineberg found that not only were these adults not lonely, many actually had richer social lives.

_____89_____ : Work on removing distractions, particularly ones that invite social comparisons. Your focus should be on your own thoughts and interests and not on what other people are doing.

How to Improve Speed Reading Skills
Speed reading is one of many skills that can improve your reading comprehension and shorten your study time. ____91____
Look at groups of words, not single words.
____92____, then this will slow your reading speed down. However, if you can get into the habit of reading groups or chunks (大量) of words at onetime, then you can read much faster. Start by trying to look at a group of three or four words at once, then work up to looking at an entire line of works. Focus on words that give the sentence meaning, such as the nouns and verbs and pay less attention to the filler words, such as a, the, and, etc.
    ____93____
Scanning is a highly effective way of extracting answers from a text without really reading it. If you know exactly what you are looking for—a name, a date, a statistic, or a specific word—you can find it quickly by skipping over large chunks of the text. To scan, first visualize the word, number, or phrase you would like to find. ____94____The information you are looking for should pop out at you.

You’ll probably be familiar with the North American spelling of the word “ airplane”. The American English spelling is “airplane” while the British English spelling is “aeroplane”. So, why does this happen?
Let’s look at the root of the phenomenon. ____97____ . “ British English has a general tendency to favour spellings and words that remind people of French, but American English, when it has deviated(背离)from what British English does, often changes into the direction of seeming less French, ”says Lynne Murphy, author of The Prodigal Tongue: The Love-Hate Relationship Between British & American English.
____98____ . “Aeroplane ”is no exception. “We’re comfortable with ‘aero’ in scientific terms, but as planes became more common things to talk about, the ‘aero’ seemed too fancy, ”explains Murphy. “In Scientific American in 1906, there was already a claim that ____99____. Ten years later, ‘airplane’ was adopted by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics as their term. It was considered in the United Kingdom, but that suggestion didn’t go anywhere.”
There’s a good reason why words that mean the same thing are spelled differently, and why that will continue to happen. “____100____ , and people are generally proud of it, so they continue to spell differently, ”says Murphy.
    A.Every country has different culture
B.Your spelling tells people where you’re from
C.The word “airplane” happens to be an example
D.Airplane is a much better word than aeroplane
E.American English and British English have similar historical origins

13.根据空前的“A major problem with plastic is that it breaks apart over time, so eventually it needs to be thrown away, plus it adds nothing to the soil as far as nutrients or humus.(塑料的一个主要问题是它会随着时间的推移而破裂,所以最终需要把它扔掉,而且它不会给土壤增加任何营养或腐殖质。)”可知,此处应该是讲述塑料覆盖物的其他问题,C选项“And plastic also can block air from reaching the soil.(塑料也会阻止空气进入土壤。)”的内容符合语境。故选C项。
14.根据本段的主题句“Finally, in addition to direct attacks on weeds, how you plant your garden can indirectly influence weed growth.(最后,除了对杂草的直接攻击外,你种植花园的方式也会间接影响杂草的生长。)”可知,此处说明的是如何进行种植以阻止花园杂草的生长,E选项“Whether or not you dig up your soil also influences weed growth.(无论是否挖掘土壤,都会影响杂草的生长。)”讲述的是一种种植的方式,符合上下文语境。故选E项。

(有些人总是看时钟,以确保他们总是准时到达会议。)”以及后文的“But if, like me, you want to make every second count, you might try to squeeze as much as you can into the time you have.(但如果像我一样,你想让每一秒都有,你可能会试图尽可能多地挤出你所拥有的时间。)”可知,本段强调的是人们对于准时的态度是不同的。G选项“People’s attitudes to being on time vary.(人们对准时的态度各不相同。)”符合语境,引起下文。故选G。

(经常迟到可能不是你的错。)”引起下文解释原因,符合语境。故选A。
40.根据前文“Maybe us latecomers should make more effort and follow the advice I heard to not “try” to be on time but “decide” to be on time. (我知道如果一个会议或最后期限真的很重要,那么我就会准时到场。)”可知,如果一个会议真的很重要,我们应该要“决定”准时,而不是“试图”准时,即一定要准时到场。但是对于其他情况即使有人指责你,你也可以放轻松,随意对待。故C选项“Otherwise relax, even if others are blaming me.(否则就放松,即使别人都在指责我。)”符合语境,与前文是转折关系,介绍了两个方面。otherwise是关键词。故选C。

    【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了几种让你的家人有更好的睡眠的方法。
51.根据后文“In other words, once they get up earlier, they’ll be ready for bed earlier, too.(换句话说,一旦他们起得早,他们也会更早准备睡觉)”可知,此句是对空处句子的另一种表达,所以空处句子与此句同义,所以G项“If you control the wake-up time, you’ll control the bedtime(如果你能控制起床时间,你就能控制就寝时间)”符合文意。故选G项。
52.根据本段小标题“Go outside(去户外)”可知,本段主题是去户外可以有助于睡眠,空处位于段首,要么引出下文,要么是对本段主题的总结,根据后文“You might consider having breakfast outside and taking the dog for a walk. Being outdoors in the morning, along with interacting as a family, can be powerful in terms of establishing a new rhythm and will get a conversation going with the brain, so you naturally become used to your new routine.(你可以考虑在室外吃早餐,然后带狗去散步。早上在户外,和家人一起互动,可以建立一种新的节奏,并与大脑进行对话,所以你自然会习惯你的新日程)”可推知,F项“First thing in the morning, try to get some sunlight(早上的第一件事就是晒太阳)”能引出下文,符合文意。故选F项。
53.分析设空,空处为本段小标题,是对本段的高度概括,根据后文“Research shows that regular exercise improves the quality and duration of sleep.     It doesn't have to be an intense or prolonged workout, but making time every dayto get moving will help you and your children sleep better.(研究表明,定期锻炼可以提高睡眠质量,延长睡眠时间。不必是剧烈或长时间的锻炼,但每天抽出时间运动会帮助你和你的孩子睡得更好)”可知,本段主题是每天适量的锻炼有助于睡眠,所以A项“Move every day(每天运动)”符合文意。故选A项。

56.空处位于段末,应承接上文。根据上文“Going against the tide of flocking to well-known yet generally jam-packed tourist destinations on vacation, a growing number of holidaymakers in China tend to spend their leisure time at lesser-known resorts to seek unique, relaxed holiday experiences. (在中国,越来越多的度假者倾向于在不太知名的度假胜地度过闲暇时间,以寻求独特、轻松的度假体验,这与人们在度假时涌向知名但通常人满为患的旅游目的地的潮流相反)”可知,上文提出了反向旅游的现象。因此空处应继续此话题。D项“Reverse tourism has emerged as a new trend; especially: among young holidaymakers in China.(逆向旅游已成为一种新趋势;尤其是在中国的年轻度假者中)”符合题意,承接上文,Reverse tourism指上文提到的“a growing number of holidaymakers in China tend to spend their leisure time at lesser-known resorts to seek unique, relaxed holiday experiences”。故选D。
57.根据下文“That is what Dai Bin, president of the China Tourism Academy said.(这是中国旅游研究院院长戴斌所说的)”推知,空处应提到一种关于旅行的说法。再结合下文“He said popular tourist spots are always packed and often raise their prices during holidays. As people become more mature travelers, they are increasingly reluctant to follow the herd. (他说,热门旅游景点总是爆满,而且经常在假期提价。随着人们变得越来越成熟,他们越来越不愿意随大流)”推知,这种说法是关于过去和现在人们对旅行的观点。B项“Tourism used to be about sightseeing but now it is about experiences.(旅游过去是观光,但现在是体验)”符合题意。故选B。
58.根据上文“He said popular tourist spots are always packed and often raise their prices during holidays. As people become more mature travelers, they are increasingly reluctant to follow the herd. (此外,据社交媒体帖子称,不太知名的景点不像发达景点那样“商业化”和“标准化”,能够提供更真实的体验和自然的邂逅)”可知,此处陈述了不太知名的景点能给游客更真实的体验。由此可知,下文也陈述这些景点能给人们带来什么。G项“And unlike popular destinations, some under-explored places with little online exposure can offer more surprises.(与热门目的地不同的是,一些未被充分开发、很少在网上曝光的地方可以提供更多惊喜)”符合题意,与上文承接自然。故选G。
60.根据上文“COVID-19 is another key factor fueling reverse tourism. As precautionary measures continue, traveling has an unpredictable quality. Travelers have no way of knowing what lies ahead before departure, be it a perfect holiday or one interrupted by a sudden outbreak. (COVID-19是推动逆向旅游的另一个关键因素。随着预防措施的继续,旅行变得不可预测。旅行者在出发前无法知道会发生什么,是一个完美的假期还是一个被突然爆发的疾病打断的假期)”可知,COVID-19使得旅行变得不可预测。由此推知,这导致人们会选择相对较近或游客较少的地方,以减少疫情爆发对假期的影响。F项“They have thus become more cautious and tend to choose local attractions or places with fewer tourists.(因此,他们变得更加谨慎,倾向于选择当地景点或游客较少的地方)”符合题意。故选F。

Having time for yourself gives you the chance to break free from social pressures and tap into your own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. (COVID-19大流行既显示了孤独的挑战,也显示了独处时间的缺乏。拥有属于自己的时间能让你有机会摆脱社会压力,深入自己的想法、感受和经历)”可知,设空处应讲解独处时间对心理健康的重要作用。E选项:However, alone time also plays a crucial role in mental health(然而,独处时间对心理健康也起着至关重要的作用)承上启下,并和下文的独处时间对心理健康的重要作用相呼应。合乎题意。故选E。
87.根据后句“Research actually suggests that being alone can lead to changes in the brain that help fuel the creative process. (事实上,研究表明,独处会导致大脑发生变化,有助于激发创造力)”可知,设空处应讲解独处时间对于加强创造力的作用。D项:Solo time is an opportunity to strengthen your creativity(独处时间是增强创造力的机会)合乎题意。故选D。
88.根据后句“However, researchers have found that people who live alone may actually have richer social lives and more social energy than people who don’t (然而,研究人员发现,独居的人实际上比非独居的人拥有更丰富的社交生活和更多的社交能量)”however表示转折,可知,设空处应讲解独处不好的方面。 C项:Living alone tends to be seen in a negative light(独处往往给人一种消极的印象)合乎题意。故选C。
89.设空处概括本段内容,为本段小标题, 设空处与上下段的首句句式保持一致,即应是祈使句。根据后句“Work on removing distractions, particularly ones that invite social comparisons. (努力消除干扰,尤其是那些会引起社会比较的干扰)”可知,设空处应为消除干扰。A项:Turn off social media(关闭社交媒体)概括本段内容,合乎题意。故选A。
90.根据上句“Not everyone is comfortable spending time alone, so you might find it helpful to plan out what you want to do. (不是每个人都喜欢独处,所以你可能会发现计划好自己想做什么很有帮助)”可知,设空处应为具体讲解独处时所做的事情。G项:This might involve relaxation time, exploring favorite hobbies, or reading books(这可能包括放松时间,探索最喜欢的爱好,或阅读书籍)合乎题意。故选G。

    【导语】本文为一篇说明文。文章介绍了提高快速阅读技能的途径。
91.根据文章题目“How to Improve Speed Reading Skills (如何提高快速阅读技能)”,以及上一句“Speed reading is one of many skills that can improve your reading comprehension and shorten your study time. (快速阅读是众多提高阅读理解能力和缩短学习时间的技巧之一。)”和下文的小标题“Look at groups of words, not single words. (看一组单词,而不是单个单词)”,“Race the clock. (争分夺秒)”可知,文章介绍快速阅读(Speed reading)的技巧,空后各段介绍了快速阅读的具体方法,设空处起到承上启下的作用,D项“Here are some speed reading techniques (这里有一些快速阅读的技巧)”符合语境,起承上启下作用。故选D项。
92.“Look at groups of words, not single words. (看一组单词,而不是单个单词)”为段落小标题,故本段介绍快读阅读的技巧之一为阅读词组群,而非一次看一个单词,下一句“However, if you can get into the habit of reading groups or chunks (大量) of words at one time, then you can read much faster. (然而,如果你能养成一次阅读一组或大量单词的习惯,那么你就能读得更快)”说明了阅读词组群(groups of words)能使阅读速度加快,根据此处的however可知,设空处与后一句为转折关系,因此设空处应提及一次看一个单词(single words)的弊端,G项“If you read a text one word at a time (如果你一次只读一个单词)”,其结果是“then this will slow your reading speed down. (这样会降低你的阅读速度)”,此处为条件关系,语意衔接连贯。故选G项。
93.此处考查段落小标题。根据下文“Scanning is a highly effective way of extracting answers from a text without really reading it. If you know exactly what you are looking for—a name, a date, a statistic, or a specific word—you can find it quickly by skipping over large chunks of the text. (寻读是一种无需真正阅读就能从文本中提取答案的高效方法。如果你确切地知道你要找什么——一个名字,一个日期,一个统计数据,或者一个特定的单词——你可以跳过大块的文本快速找到它。)”可知,本段内容为快读阅读的另一个技巧——寻读自己想找的词,C项“Scan for keywords (寻读关键词)”符合语境,语意衔接连贯。故选C项。
94.根据上文“To scan, first visualize the word, number,     or phrase you would like to find.(要进行寻读,首先要设想你想要找到的单词、数字或短语。)”句中的first,可知,下文会出现接下来的步骤,A项“Then, run your eyes rapidly over the text (然后,快速浏览文本)”,then顺接上文,且语意衔接连贯,故选A项。
95.本段的小标题为“Race the clock. (争分夺秒)”,故本段与阅读时的时间把控有关,设空处上一句“Set a timer (定时器) for fifteen minutes, and speed read as you normally do. (设置一个15分钟的计时器(定时器),像平常一样快速阅读。)”,以及设空处之后的“check to see how far you have got. (看看你已经完成了多少。)”可知,此处与计时器(timer)有关,在阅读中可以借助于计时器来计量阅读的量;E项“When the timer goes off (当计时器响起)”,timer为复现词,上下文衔接连贯顺畅,故选E项。

    【导语】本文是说明文。本文以美式英语中的airplane和英式英语中的aeroplane在拼写上的差异为例介绍了英美语言中拼写差异的形成原因。
96.根据空前的“However, if you’ve ever been on an international flight leaving the United States and going to another English-speaking country like the United Kingdom, you’ve probably noticed that there are a few differences between the American and British spellings of words with the same meaning(然而,如果你曾经乘坐国际航班离开美国前往另一个英语国家,如英国,你可能会注意到,具有相同意思的单词在美式和英式拼写中有一些不同)”可知,英美语言中有一些词意思相同,但是拼写方式却不同。设空处举例说明具有相同意思的单词在美式和英式拼写中有一些不同。C项:The word “airplane” happens to be an example(“飞机”这个词就是一个例子)合乎题意。故选C。
97.根据上句“Let’s look at the root of the phenomenon. (让我们来看看现象的根源)”可知,本段主要讲的是airplane和aeroplane 拼写方式不同的原因。结合空后的“British English has a general tendency to favour spellings and words that remind people of French, but American English, when it has deviated(背离)from what British English does, often changes into the direction of seeming less French,(英式英语一般倾向于喜欢那些让人想起法语的拼写和单词,但美式英语一旦偏离了英式英语的特点,往往会朝着看起来不那么法式的方向转变)”可知,空处内容应涉及英式英语与美式英语和其他语言之间的关系。G项:A lot of words in the English language are borrowed from other languages, like Latin, Greek, and French(英语中有很多单词是从其他语言借来的,比如拉丁语、希腊语和法语)合乎题意。故选G。
98.空处为本段主题句。根据空后““Aeroplane ”is no exception. “We’re comfortable with ‘aero’ in scientific terms, but as planes became more common things to talk about, the ‘aero’ seemed too fancy, ”explains Murphy.(“飞机”也不例外。墨菲解释说:“在科学术语中,aero这个词让我们感到舒服,但随着飞机成为更常见的话题,aero这个词似乎太花哨了”)”以及“Ten years later, ‘airplane’ was adopted by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics as their term.(十年后,“飞机”被国家航空咨询委员会采用作为他们的术语)”可知,本段主要介绍了aeroplane与airplane在拼写上的差异和科学上的联系。F项:There’s a lot of history that goes beyond words and dives deep into politics, government, and science(有很多历史超越了文字,深入到政治、政府和科学) 概括本段内容,合乎题意。故选F。
99.根据空前““Aeroplane ”is no exception. “We’re comfortable with ‘aero’ in scientific terms, but as planes became more common things to talk about, the ‘aero’ seemed too fancy, ”explains Murphy.(“飞机”也不例外。墨菲解释说:“在科学术语中,aero这个词让我们感到舒服,但随着飞机成为更常见的话题,aero这个词似乎太花哨了”)”讲到随着飞机的普及,带有aero的拼写方式似乎太花哨,以及空后“Ten years later, ‘airplane’ was adopted by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics as their term.( 十年后,“飞机”被国家航空咨询委员会采用作为他们的术语)”故空处应涉及airplane这种拼写方式在美国得到认可。D项:Airplane is a much better word than aeroplane(Airplane这个词比aeroplane好得多)合乎题意。故选D。
100.根据空前的“There’s a good reason why words that mean the same thing are spelled differently, and why that will continue to happen (意思相同的单词拼写不同,而且这种情况会继续发生,这是有原因的)”可知,设空处应是在介绍表示同一含义的单词的英式拼写和美式拼写不同这种现象持续发生的原因。B项:Your spelling tells people where you’re from(你的拼写会告诉别人你来自哪里)说明原因是你的拼写会告诉别人你来自哪里,合乎题意。故选B。
