While I am still struggling to take a clear selfie with my dog, this guy is taking perfect selfies with different species of animals from around the globe. Allan Dixon is a 29-year-old traveler from Ireland. Currently living in Australia, Allan works in the tourism industry and is famous for his special connection with animals just like a real-life Dr. Dolittle. But besides walking and talking with animals, he also clicks striking selfies with them.
The animal selfie king has been able to click amazing snapshots with kangaroos, ducks, quokkas, goats, camels and sea lions. Working in the marketing department of the tourism industry, Allan has travelled to various places such as Canada, Iceland, Norway, Australia and Asia as well. By posting amusing selfies with a variety of exotic creatures on his Instagram account, he has gained a lot of popularity. His followers are always curious to see his next hilarious selfie with a new species of animal.
It was back in 2010 when Allan took his first animal selfie with his dog. However, it was in 2013 in Australia that a selfie with a baby camel got his friends excited. Since then, he has taken more than 40 selfies with different animals, 30 of which have been with different species. According to him, there is something magical about animals that can’t be defined. He wants to share the feeling of great joy which he gets in the presence of animals with his friends through these captured snapshots.
Allan explains that there is no particular method to such animal selfies. The basic thing is that the animal should feel comfortable in your presence and you just have to be patient. Allan reveals that it can take “anywhere between five minutes to three hours of being in the animals’ presence” to take a selfie. “It depends on the animal and how safe it feels. What the photos don’t show is the amount of dirt that ends up on my clothes because of being on the ground. But the results are worth it.”

Joy is an emotion experienced by many but understood by few. It often refers to a broad sense of being satisfied with life that appears after experiencing a sense of awe or wonder. It also relates to accomplishing something we’ve wanted for a long time. It’s usually mistaken for happiness, but joy is experienced naturally, while happiness is often pursued.
Joy triggers (引发) a series of physical and psychological changes that can improve our health. When joyous, our breathing becomes faster, our heartbeat increases, and our chest and entire body feel warmer. These changes make our body prepared for movement and also make us feel more mentally prepared to take on life’s challenges. These changes in body and mind are also associated with improved mood.
Interestingly, joy is both a state and a trait (特质). This means that while some of us only experience it as a result of a joyful situation, others have a capacity for it, that is to say, they’re able to experience joy regardless of whether they’ve encountered something joyful. Some research suggests that this capacity is genetic, with estimates that about 30% of people have this “gift for joy”. This means they’re hardly influenced by their external environment and may find it easier to experience joy.
But just because some people may find it easier to experience joy, that doesn’t mean we can do nothing to help boost our experience of it. Sharing and preparing food with others can help us experience more joy, as it can enhance what’s known as psychological flourishing — the highest level of wellbeing. Researchers also find that doing exercise in company with other people or accomplishing an exercise-related goal we never thought we were capable of can lead to joy. Another simple way to boost feelings of joy is by writing down how you feel. In one experiment, participants who spent 20 minutes a day writing about positive experiences for three months reported better moods compared with participants who wrote about different topics.
However, while joy is wonderful to experience, it isn’t the only emotion we’ll feel in our life. It’s important to embrace all the emotions we experience — be that sadness, anger, happiness or joy.
    28. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
    A. Joy. B. Sense. C. Awe. D. Wonder.
    29. The changes triggered by joy can ________.
    A. make our breath faster B. increase our heartbeat
    C. prepare our body for movement D. make us feel challenged
    30. Why is joy a trait?
    A. Because it’s a result of a joyful situation.
    B. Because it’s an experience of few people.
    C. Because it’s a general capacity.
    D. Because it’s a genetic talent.
    31. Which of the following statements does the author agree with?
    A. Food is an important source of joy.
    B. It’s joyful to exercise with other people.
    C. Being a writer makes you have better moods.
    D. Joy should be valued more than other emotions.
    D
This is awkward for someone who writes about technology to admit but — whisper it — smart phones are getting a little boring. Take the newest iPhones for example, they were a little faster and had slightly better cameras, but they were not quite different from their iPhones already in the pockets.
This is why some people in the tech industry are eager for something new and are asking, “What will be the next revolutionary invention to transform our lives just as fundamentally as the smart phone or the personal computer?” At the moment, a lot of people are betting that it will be smart glasses. Imagine if instead of having to pick up your phone and look at the screen like a caveman, all of the digital information you need simply appears floating right in front of you, in your glasses.
If the technology can be cracked, the possibilities are endless. Imagine having satellite navigation directions appear right there on the road in front of you. Or imagine being able to secretly watch YouTube during a particularly boring meeting. Smart glasses could be big in industry too. They could display detailed instructions to engineers, so they can fix things more quickly. This sounds like science fiction.
What’s fun is that while our phones are not dramatically changing, if you watch hard enough you can still see small steps being taken by the big tech firms towards technologies that will be directly applicable to smart glasses. So if the technology is here, why aren’t we all wearing smart glasses yet? The reason is that there is just one stumbling block (绊脚石) left: the screen. So far no one has invented a good way of projecting digital images on glass lenses. Though there have been a few attempts, such as Google Glass, they were disadvantaged by a very limited “field of view”. This is a problem that, behind the scenes, the likes of Apple. Google and Facebook are pouring enormous resources into solving. So while I can’t say exactly when smart glasses will arrive, they could come into focus much sooner than we think.
    32. Why are some people in the tech industry eager for something new?
    A. Because smart phones were much different from the old ones.
    B. Because the newest technology didn’t make real breakthroughs.
    C. Because personal computers were not a revolutionary invention.
    D. Because no technology ever transformed our lives fundamentally.
    33. How does the third paragraph mainly develop?
    A. By giving examples. B. By analyzing causes.
    C. By introducing a topic. D. By describing a process.
    34. What does the author think of the phones at present?
    A. They are changing dramatically.
    B. They are pointless to new technologies.
    C. They are helpful in developing smart glasses.
    D. They are more convenient than smart glasses.
    35. What’s the main idea of the passage?
    A. Smart glasses are a stumbling block to new technology.
    B. Smart glasses are the next invention to change the world.
    C. Digital technology will contribute to endless applications.
    D. Digital technology is the basis of revolutionary inventions.

Rabbits are a popular symbol of Easter and there is usually an increase in owning rabbits at this time. 36 . They are complex animals with specific needs and not as easy to own as once thought. However, with the right care they are incredibly rewarding and interesting pets. Here are things to consider

    All paws on the floor

As prey animals, they like to keep all four feet firmly on the ground and prefer to hop onto a lap to get a tasty treat rather than be picked up.
    Always give the right food

    B. Adopt rabbits from a rescue shelter
    C. Children’s playhouses are often a cost-effective choice
    D. But it’s important to think twice before deciding if they are right for you
    E. Rabbits have a complex digestive system and teeth that grow continuously

My wife, Hannah, and I don’t usually keep houseplants. Anything in pots gets either overwatered or underwatered. But after my diagnosis with a brain cancer, with a forecast of merely a year to live, I loved the 41 of having something new and green around.
My friend Mitch gave me what he said was a 42 bamboo plant in a pottery bowl. We placed the plant in the living room window across from the couch where I 43 much of the day.
I told Hannah I wanted to care for the plant myself. Caring for the plant gave me a sense of 44 at a time when I sometimes felt useless. My cancer 45 my ability to walk, and the treatment left me exhausted. As a family physician, I was used to being the one who provided care, not the one who 46 it.
Since my diagnosis, far too often, I had to 47 help from other people. The enormous change left me feeling aimless and unsettled. Watering the plant, as small an act as it was, 48 me to a central part of my old identity and taught me I could still be a caregiver. Soon, it had nearly doubled in height and its leaves were shiny and lush. Both the tree and I were 49 .
Then, 50 , it began to show signs of stress. I increased my watering, then decreased it. I fed it plant food. No matter what I did, the leaves kept browning and dropping to the floor. I grew more and more 51 and uneasy.
Hannah 52 me that we’d seen houseplants die before.
“If my lucky bamboo dies,” I blurted out, “I might die too!”
I couldn’t shake the feeling that the plant had become a(n) 53 of my health. 54 the tree was struggling, I felt increasingly fearful. Its drying leaves, I worried, might signal the end of my life.
Thanks to my wife’s constant comfort, my 55 lessened and I transplanted the bamboo to a larger pot as instructed. I am convinced that if the plant outlives me, it will comfort Hannah and remind her that our large community will continue to nurture her after I am gone.

W: (2)Well, I saw a really good movie with a teammate of my football club.
    Text 3
W: All the traffic downtown is backing up.
M: Oh. How should I get to the doctor’s? Drive? Take a taxi?
W: A taxi won’t be any faster than driving.
M: (3)Well then, I’ll probably take the subway.
    Text 4
W: Could you put your seat forward now, sir? (4)We’ll be landing shortly.
    M: So soon? Great!
    Text 5
W: That man just threw his rubbish on the floor!
M: Well, it’s a theater. Someone will clean it up later
    W: (5)You don’t think that’s rude?
M: It’s none of our business.
    Text 6
M: When shall I say that you will arrive?
W: Tell them that I plan to be there by tomorrow afternoon
M: (7)Shall I have them make a hotel reservation for you?
W: No need. I made one last week by telephone.
M: (6)Do you plan to stay longer than three days?
W: I don’t think so. (7)I can take care of all the necessary business in three days.
M: Well, have a good trip.
    W: Thank you.
    Text 7
W: (8)How about these glasses for Laura and David’s wedding?
M: The style is good. They have a nice shape.
    W: Let’s see, they’re $60 for four glasses.
M: Doesn’t that seem expensive? They’re awfully small.
W: No, the size is okay, and the price is actually okay, too, for a really nice set like this.
M: Are blue glasses useful? I mean, will they go with their other things?
W: (9)Now that you say it, I don’t think blue is a good idea.
M: Yeah, let’s look for something similar in another color.
    Text 8
W: (12)Good afternoon, Kingswell Sports club, how can I help you?
M: Oh, I was wondering if you could give me some information about your club.
    W: Of course.
M: Do you have tennis courts, for example?
    W: No, I’m afraid we don’t. (10)We’re mainly a golf club.
M: What about football? I heard you had a team.
W: No, I’m sorry. Perhaps you’re thinking about Fresham Sports Center. But we have a keep-fit studio, which is very popular with members, and then as well as that there’s swimming, of course.
M: That’s good. I like to swim every day. What about relaxing after exercise? I assume you have a restaurant or something.
W: (11)At the moment, we’ve only got a salad bar. The restaurant will be in use by the end of the year.
    M: Sounds good!
    Text 9
M: Phew! I just made it in time! (13)Do you mind if I sit here?
    W: No, please, go ahead.
M: Thanks. Ah... it’s good to sit down. I really thought I was going to miss this train!
W: Yes, you got on just before it left.
M: I had to run to catch it. But at least I can sit down now all the way to Oxford.
W: Oxford? (14)This train goes to Bristol.
M: Oh no! Where does it go?
    W: It goes to Bristol.
    M: You’re joking!
W: (15)You need the next train — the one at 10:04. This is the 9:55 to Bristol.
    M: But it was after 10 o’clock when I got on…
W: I know. We left a bit late. But it’s definitely the train to Bristol. You can go and ask the conductor.
M: What am I going to do? I’m going to an interview in Oxford. I can’t be late!
W: Don’t worry. (16)This train stops at Reading. Just get off there and wait a few minutes. You can get on your train to Oxford.
M: Great! Thank you so much.
    W: No problem.
    Text 10
M: Hello, everyone. Welcome back to Story Time, and this week we’re going to talk about Margaret Fuller. Margaret Fuller was born in 1810 in America. Up to the age of nine, her education was at home, with her father. Margaret was an excellent student. In fact, by the age of six, she was translating Latin poetry into English. (18)By the age of ten, she was at school. And eventually, she became a teacher. So, (19)why did she become so well known? Well, she had very strong opinions about the role of women and particularly about what jobs they could do. Margaret believed that a woman could do any job that a man could do. Later, she became a journalist. She worked for the New York Tribune and became its first female editor. She also wrote reviews for it, as she was famous for having strong opinions about literature. (20)Some of the reviews she wrote were very sharp. As a result, she was not always popular with novelists and poets of her time. Besides, she was interested in many different topics. For example, she wanted to change people’s attitudes to Native Americans and African Americans. She certainly tried to make the world a better place. (17)This is Tom, on 685 FM, saying good night.
