At the age of nine, Willard began carving (雕刻) faces on toothpicks (牙签). When he showed his mother the carved faces, she said, “What an excellent job you’ve done! You must make great efforts to be the best in the world.” With her encouragement, Willard’s confidence grew and he continued. It’s always a happy moment when you get some pocket money (零花钱). But have you ever thought about how to spend your pocket money wisely? Here’s some advice.
    Make a list.
When you get your pocket money, don’t get too excited. We all have a lot of things that we want. But do you really need them? That’s why it is necessary to make a list before you spend money. Start with the thing you want most. You can also write down how much it costs or how important it is in your life. By doing this, you will see if it is really necessary to buy it.
    Help others.
How about being more selfless(无私的) and using your pocket money to help others? We all know that there are many people in the world who are in need of our help. Helping others brings joys in our lives. So consider using your pocket money to do something useful and helpful, and feel how you can make a difference.
Save as much as you can.
There is an old saying that “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” If you spend all your pocket money right away, you’ll have no money until your next “pay day”.
A wallet sometimes might not be the best place to save money because it may make it easier for you to spend your money. Get a piggy bank (储蓄罐) or ask your parents to start a savings account(账户) for you. Someday when you look back, you’ll get a strong feeling of achievement by saving so much money by yourself !
( )42.Why should we make a list before spending money?
A.To help us buy things that we want most.
B.To make sure we buy everything we need.
C.To know which thing is the most expensive.
D.To know if we have enough money for the things.
( )43.What does the underlined sentence “Money doesn’t grow on trees” mean?
    A.Money doesn’t come easily.
B.Money is as important as trees.
C.One can make money by growing trees.
D.We should use our money to protect the environment.
( )44.The best place to save money can be ________ according to the writer.
    A.our wallet B.our parents’ wallet C.our piggy bank D.our parents’account
( )45.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A.Helping others can bring us great happiness.
B.Pocket money can be used to do something useful and helpful.
C.Saving much money can make us get a strong feeling of achievement.
D.When you get your pocket money, you should get excited.

No doubt that teens should also care about the world that we live in. Martinez is one of the most active environmentalist among the young people. When most teens are busy with sports, friends, and online games, he is working to save the planet.
So how does a teenager become a well-known environmental activist (活跃分子)?
“I grew up in family where people were always thinking about the environment,” says Martinez.
When Martinez was just 6 years old, he decided he had to do something about climate (气候) change — a serious environmental problem. Scientists have been studying climate change for many years. They know that Earth’s climate changes on its own over time. But right now, it is changing more and more quickly than usual because of pollution created by people — by the cars, trucks and planes we ride in, and by the coal and oil we burn for electricity.
Martinez points out that climate change is a serious problem. “People can feel very helpless about climate change, like there is nothing they can do,” he says. But that is not true. “Humans caused climate change.” Martinez says. “And we can try to solve it.”
Martinez began looking for solutions (解决办法) when he was just a little kid. His elder brothers and sisters ran an environmental group called Earth Guardians, which was started by their mom. First, he listened when they had meetings. Soon, he was traveling around the country and the world. His goal? To educate and raise people up to face the “war” of climate change.
Today, Martinez runs Earth Guardians. The group works with thousands of kids around the world. He speaks to students in classrooms about steps they can take to help the planet. And he writes and performs hip-hop songs about the environment. Martinez believes that if many people change their habits, the climate change can be cut down.

Imagine having something that you loved so much. Imagine what it would feel like losing it. While that one may be something as simple as a doll, you would still feel very upset, but you could replace (代替) it with a new one.
Now imagine you depend on something to live on, but you lose it and nothing can replace it. That is what it would be like if we lost the natural environment around us.
Firstly, I believe the environment should be protected because it supports human life. One of the largest examples is that we get all of our food and drinks in the environment. If the environment were to be destroyed, then the humans would be over in months. Scientists have yet to find another planet with similar conditions to Earth, and if it is found, we don’t have the technology to get to that planet on time.
Secondly, I believe that the environment serves as an amazing educational tool for students. When I was in second grade, I had a great interest in animals. When we had a field trip to the Daggerwing Nature Center, I was really amazed. There was a bridge to get to the main building, and under the bridge was a small swamp (沼泽) with turtles, fish, and my personal favorite, alligators (钝吻鳄). I was so surprised that I almost ran into the tour guide. We walked into the buildings and saw different animals in their habitats. I was so inspired by this visit. Six years later, I have taken an animal behavior class for three weeks. Meetings by chance with the environment can inspire people.
In a word, the environment is so valuable because it can’t be replaced.
    19. The first two paragraphs are written to _______.
    A. offer a suggestion B. show differences C. lead into the topic D. describe a process

Have you ever felt you were being watched? Some new technologies might make you feel that way. Digital billboards (电子屏幕) are able to recognize certain human characteristics (特征). They have cameras pointed at the people on the street, and can recognize people’s age, a man or a woman. Then a computer inside the billboard uses this information to make ads (advertisements) for the people who are looking at the billboard. For example, if a man passes a billboard showing an ad about women clothes, the computer can change the ad to something such as men’s sporting shoes, to catch the man’s attention.

Although advertisers see this as a great chance to reach their customers, some people feel that this is an invasion (侵犯) of their privacy. However, advertisers say that the billboards will not be able to recognize their face or get any personal information about them.
In fact, this kind of “personal” advertising has already appeared on the Internet. Search engines (引擎) like Google and Bing can follow what we search for. When we have searched for some products and services, companies then pay search engines to use it in ads. So if you search for travel information, you may see ads for airlines and hotels. This kind of advertising has proved to work better than traditional advertising.
In today’s world, people see thousands of ads every day, but they don’t take much notice. Advertisers are trying to change that by personalizing the experience of seeing an ad. So pay attention the next time you see a billboard—it would be talking to you.
    27. When you watch a billboard showing ads on the street, _______.
    A. people will pay more attention to you B. it will change ads to catch your attention
    C. cameras will record what you are wearing D. computers will steal your personal information
    28. From the second paragraph, we can learn that _______.
    A. a good chance makes business easy B. the customer is always God
    C. each person has his own opinion D. private information is important
    29. The underlined word “it” refers to _______.
    A. the tool customers use B. the technology they develop
    C. the information we search for D. the chance companies get
    30. What is the best title for the passage?
    A. The rise of a new advertising B. The advantage of billboards
    C. The history of advertising D. The invention of billboards
