设计说明

首先通过对英美国家语言的提问导入本单元文章主题——英式英语和美式英语的不同。利用图片呈现一些事物用英式和美式英语的不同说法，并学习生词，之后通过书上的练习让学生进一步掌握巩固。然后通过自由说话学习本单元的Comic strip。最后将本单元文章中重点短语和句式提取出来让学生记忆和理解。并让学生通过一个小练习来了解掌握情况。

教学目标

通过本单元的教学，让学生达成以下目标：

1.知识目标

掌握词汇：advertisement, British, biscuit, rubber, American, eraser, vacation, cookie, fall, store, truck, yard, movie

2.能力目标

(1)简要谈论学校生活,复习与学校生活有关的词汇。

(2)掌握相同概念在英式英语和美式英语中的不同表达。

3.情感目标

了解英式英语和美式英语在词汇方面的区别，培养学英语的兴趣。

重点难点

重点：用来描述相同事物的不同词汇

难点：区分英式还是美式

教学过程

Step 1  Lead-in

Ask students the following questions:

Do you know what language the English speak?

Do you know what language the Americans speak?

People speak English in both the UK and the USA. However, sometimes they use different words which mean the same thing. So there are British English and American English.

Step 2  Presentation

1. Watch pictures and learn some English words.

Different words for the same thing:

2. Present words and ask students to read them aloud.

3. Ask students to match the words on the left with the words on the right.

Write the correct letters in the blanks.

Answers: 1.d  2.e  3.g  4.i  5.b  6.c  7.h  8.a  9.f

4. Ask students to read the words together, then write down the correct words under the pictures below.

British E. ________  ________  ________  ________  ________

The answers: film, movie; football, soccer; garden, yard; lorry, truck; rubber, eraser

5. Ask students to read the dialogue in Part B and replace the British words using the American words.

Daniel: Hi, Simon. Where are you going?

Simon: I’m going to buy a toy lorry for my cousin in the shop near our school.

Daniel: I’ll go with you. I’d like to buy some biscuits.

Simon: Do you have any plans for weekend?

Daniel: I want to see a film. Shall we go together?

Simon: I’d love to, but the school football team will practise this Saturday. We

have an important match this autumn.  

Answers:

Daniel: Hi, Simon. Where are you going?

Simon: I’m going to buy a toy truck for my cousin in the store near our school.

Daniel: I’ll go with you. I’d like to buy some cookie.

Simon: Do you have any plans for the weekend?

Daniel: I want to see a movie. Shall we go together?

Simon: I’d love to, but the school soccer team will practice this Saturday. We have an important match this fall.

6. Show students more examples and find out different spellings in some words.

Step 3  Lead-in

Ask students to have a free talk: Do you think dogs need to go to school ?

Which part of our school do you like best? Why?

What activities can we do in our school?

Which do you like better, the lessons or the after-school activities?

Do you think school is fun? Why or why not? ...

Step 4  Presentation

1. Ask students to listen to the Comic strip and ask the following questions.

(1)Why don’t dogs go to school?

(2)What’s school like?

Answers:

(1) Because they are cleverer than people. People have to work harder.

(2) It’s like watching TV, but there are fewer advertisements.

2. Ask students to read the Comic strip loudly and then try to act it out.

3. Ask students to fill in the blanks according to the Comic strip.

Step 5  Language points

1. Why don’t dogs go to school, Eddie?

Why don’t... + do sth.? =Why not do sth.? 表示建议。

e.g. 你为什么不和我们一起踢足球呢？

Why don’t you play football with us? = Why not play football with us?

2. Because we’re cleverer than people. They have to work harder.  

cleverer =smarter

have to do sth.“不得不做某事”,强调客观上不得不做某事。

【拓展】must “必须” , 强调主观上必须做某事。

3. What’s school like?

be like…（+ doing sth.）就像……，好像……

e.g.“你的校园生活怎么样？”“很有趣。”        

—What is your school life like?

—It’s interesting.

4. It’s like watching TV, there are fewer advertisements.

fewer “较少的, 更少的” , 修饰可数名词。

Few—fewer—fewest   修饰可数名词   

Little—less—least      修饰不可数名词

e.g. Finish the work with  less  money and  fewer  people.（较少的）

1. Search online for more differences between British and American English.

2. Remember the new words and language points in this lesson.

3. Preview the passage on page 20.
