    Instantly I reached the closet,Jimmy pushed me (down to the closet floor,but he couldn't get inside himself because of the wind.I gripped Jimmy's arm as the tornado sucked the door open and tried to bring Jimmy with it.My knees were full of glass,but at that moment,I felt no pain.If I had let go,Jimmy would have flown right out and into the bay."Hold on!Hold on!"he yelled.But there was nothing in this closet to hold on to.
    All of a sudden,Jimmy lifted off his feet like people in tornadoes do in the movies.I thought he was gone.And then everything stopped.He landed on his feet.At those first quiet moments,I couldn't believe it was over.Jimmy said he'd go outside to check."No,"I said."Don't leave me."
    Our neighbor says the storm lasted four minutes.At that time,four of the twelve houses in our community were completely destroyed.Of the houses left standing,ours suffered the most damage.However,none of us were severely injured.

    A child who suffers bullying(霸凌)usually has low self-respect and their ability to learn and be successful at school is greatly lessened.Therefore,bullying must be stopped.
        The best and most obvious way to stop bullying in schools is for parents to change the way they treat their children at home.Of course,this is much easier said than done and everyone treats their children differently.Bullies,however,come from homes where physical punishment is used and children have been taught that physical violence is the way to handle problems and "get their way".Bullies usually also come from homes where the parents fight a lot,so they have been modeled on such violence.Parental involvement is often lacking in bullies' lives and there seems to be little warmth.
        Early intervention(干预)is truly the best way to stop bullying,but parents of the victims or therapists(治疗师)cannot  alter the bully's home environment.Some things can be done at the school level,however.
        Most school programs that address bullying use a multifaceted(多方面的)method to the problem.This usually involves the advice of some sort,either by peers,a school adviser,teachers,or the principal.
        Hand out questionnaires to all students and teachers and discuss if bullying is occurring.Define exactly what constitutes(构成)bullying at school.The questionnaire is a wonderful tool that allows the school to see how widespread bullying is and what forms it is taking.It is a good way to start to solve the problem.
        Get the children's parents involved in a bullying program.If parents of the bullies and the victims are not aware of what is going on at school,then the whole bullying program will not be effective.Stopping bullying in school takes teamwork and concentrated effort on everyone's part.Bullying also should be discussed during parent-teacher conferences and PTA meetings.Parental awareness is the key.
        In the classroom setting,all teachers should work with the students on bullying.Oftentimes even the teacher is being bullied in the classroom and a program should be set up to teach about bullying.Children understand modeling behaviors and role-play and acting out bullying situations is a very effective tool.Have students role-play a bullying situation.

    Introduction
        Blenheim Palace is one of the Europe's largest and greatest palaces.It was built between 1705 and 1722 as a reward of the British government to John Churchill,1st Duke of Marlborough,for defeating King Louis XIV's army at Blenheim,a small Bavarian village on the Danube River.
        The palace was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh,which displayed strength and arm glory.It is the largest non-royal building in England and is now listed by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
        Winston Churchill
        In 1874,the palace was the birthplace of the duke's most famous  descendant.Winston Churchill,who was to become the UK's Prime Minister(some would say Britain's greatest 20th-century politician)and Nobel prize winner for literature.It is also in Blenheim that Winston got married to Clementine Hozier in 1908.
        A lasting exhibition is devoted to the man's life,work and writings.Winston and his wife are buried in Bladon Church within the palace.

        Blenheim is still the home of the 11th Duke of Marlborough and is therefore not open all year round (although the park is).The palace opens its doors to visitors from 12 February to 11 December.Entry to the palace,park and gardens cost £11.50 during the low season and £13 during the peak season (Easter weekend and from 28 May to 11 September),or £6/£8 for the park and gardens only.

    A serious problem for today's society is who should be responsible for our elderly and how to improve their lives.It is not only a financial problem but also a question of the system we want for our society.I would like to suggest several possible solutions to this problem.
    First,employers should take the responsibility for their retired employees.To make this possible,a percentage of profits should be set aside for this purpose.But when a company must take life-long responsibility for its employees,it may suffer from a commercial disadvantage due to higher employee costs.Another way of solving the problem is to return the responsibility to the individual.This means each person must save during his working years to pay for his years of retirement.This does not seem a very fair model since some people have enough trouble paying for their daily life without trying to earn extra to cover their retirement years.This means the government might have to step in to care for the poor.
    In addition,the government could take responsibility for the care of the elderly.This could be financed through government taxes to increase the level of pensions.Furthermore,some institutions (慈善机构、福利院)should be created for senior citizens,which can help provide a comfortable life for them.Unfortunately,as the present situation in our country shows,this is not a truly answer.The government can seldom afford to care for the elderly,particularly when it is busy trying to care for the young .
    One further solution is that the government or social organizations establish some working places especially for the elderly where they are independent.
    To sum up,all these options have advantages and disadvantages.Therefore ,it is reasonable to expect that some combinations of these options may be needed to provide the care we hope to give to our elderly generations.

    (1)品读原文。确定文章线索
          每篇文章都有各自独特的写作思路,通过精读文章,找到该篇文章的写作线索。如是以时间为线索还是以空间为线索等这样有利于考生"顺藤摸瓜(结尾)"。
          (2)仔细审题,明确续写要求
          一般短文后面的"注意"都有对此类短文续写的具体要求,如词数限制使用几处标有下划线的关键词语。续写段落的首句提示,这样考生可以做到"心中有数"。
          (3)回扣原文,揣摩续写思路
          根据文章后面的要求,再次快速阅读短文,抓住文章的思路结合段首的提示语最终确定续写段落的思路。同时结合文章画线词语提示,确定续写段落的内容。
          (4)拟写草稿,修改错词病句
