I gripped the handrail (扶手) and tried t mve frward, but this intense pressure held me in place. In thse secnds f stillness, I culd hear everything arund me rattling.
As we reached the last flight f steps, ur frnt dr blew ut. Pieces f glass that lked like brken ice flew everywhere. Suddenly, a three-ft-lng tree branch whipped thrugh the dr frame. It flew ver ur heads, missing us by inches. Had we been ne step up, it wuld have gne thrugh us and caused serius injuries. The back wall f the huse fllwed suit and tre ff int the darkness utside.
Instantly I reached the clset, Jimmy pushed me (dwn t the clset flr, but he culdn’t get inside himself because f the wind.I gripped Jimmy’s arm as the trnad sucked the dr pen and tried t bring Jimmy with it. My knees were full f glass, but at that mment, I felt n pain. If I had let g, Jimmy wuld have flwn right ut and int the bay.“Hld n! Hld n!” he yelled. But there was nthing in this clset t hld n t.
All f a sudden, Jimmy lifted ff his feet like peple in trnades d in the mvies. I thught he was gne. And then everything stpped. He landed n his feet. At thse first quiet mments, I culdn’t believe it was ver. Jimmy said he’d g utside t check. “N,” I said. “Dn’t leave me.”
Our neighbr says the strm lasted fur minutes. At that time, fur f the twelve huses in ur cmmunity were cmpletely destryed. Of the huses left standing, urs suffered the mst damage. Hwever, nne f us were severely injured.

A child wh suffers bullying (霸凌) usually has lw self-respect and their ability t learn and be successful at schl is greatly lessened. Therefre, bullying must be stpped.
The best and mst bvius way t stp bullying in schls is fr parents t change the way they treat their children at hme. Early interventin (干预) is truly the best way t stp bullying, but parents f the victims r therapists (治疗师) cannt alter the bully’s hme envirnment. Sme things can be dne at the schl level, hwever.
Mst schl prgrams that address bullying use a multi-faceted (多方面的) methd t the prblem. This usually invlves the advice f sme srt, either by peers, a schl adviser, teachers, r the principal.
Hand ut questinnaires t all students and teachers and discuss if bullying is ccurring. Define exactly what cnstitutes (构成) bullying at schl. The questinnaire is a wnderful tl that allws the schl t see hw widespread bullying is and what frms it is taking. It is a gd way t start t slve the prblem.
Get the children’s parents invlved in a bullying prgram. If parents f the bullies and the victims are nt aware f what is ging n at schl, then the whle bullying prgram will nt be effective. Stpping bullying in schl takes teamwrk and cncentrated effrt n everyne’s part. Bullying als shuld be discussed during parent-teacher cnferences and PTA meetings. Parental awareness is the key.
In the classrm setting, all teachers shuld wrk with the students n bullying. Oftentimes even the teacher is being bullied in the classrm and a prgram shuld be set up t teach abut bullying. Children understand mdeling behavirs and rle-play and acting ut bullying situatins is a very effective tl. Have students rle-play a bullying situatin.

A serius prblem fr tday’s sciety is wh shuld be respnsible fr ur elderly and hw t imprve their lives. It is nt nly a financial prblem but als a questin f the system we want fr ur sciety. I wuld like t suggest several pssible slutins t this prblem.
First, emplyers shuld take the respnsibility fr their retired emplyees. T make this pssible, a percentage f prfits shuld be set aside fr this purpse. But when a cmpany must take life-lng respnsibility fr its emplyees, it may suffer frm a cmmercial disadvantage due t higher emplyee csts. Anther way f slving the prblem is t return the respnsibility t the individual. This means each persn must save during his wrking years t pay fr his years f retirement. This des nt seem a very fair mdel since sme peple have enugh truble paying fr their daily life withut trying t earn extra t cver their retirement years. This means the gvernment might have t step in t care fr the pr.
In additin, the gvernment culd take respnsibility fr the care f the elderly. This culd be financed thrugh gvernment taxes t increase the level f pensins. Furthermre, sme institutins (慈善机构、福利院)shuld be created fr senir citizens, which can help prvide a cmfrtable life fr them. Unfrtunately, as the present situatin in ur cuntry shws, this is nt a truly viable answer. The gvernment can seldm affrd t care fr the elderly, particularly when it is busy trying t care fr the yung .
One further slutin is that the gvernment r scial rganizatins establish sme wrking places especially fr the elderly where they are independent.
T sum up, all these ptins have advantages and disadvantages. Therefre , it is reasnable t expect that sme cmbinatins f these ptins may be needed t prvide the care we hpe t give t ur elderly generatins.
13.What is the passage mainly abut ?
A.The prblem faced by the ld in sciety
B.Why we shuld take respnsibility fr the ld
C.Hw we can imprve the lives f the ld
D.Where the ld can g t get their pensins
14.Accrding t the passage , hw can the gvernment help t imprve the lives f retired peple ?
A.Set aside sme prfits t help peple with prblems after they retire.
B.Increase savings levels f peple during their wrking years.
C.Increase the discunts(打折)fr fd and transprt fr the ld.
D.Make available pensins fr thse wh have retired.
15.The underlined wrd “viable” mst prbably means ________ .
    A.impssibleB.practicalC.usefulD.successful
16.What can be cncluded frm the passage ?
A.Taking care f the ld is mainly an issue (问题) f the ld.
B.Emplyers shuld allw their wrkers t retire at a later age.

以【小题1】A项为例,“A. It is the Eurpe’s largest and greatest palaces.”该项很明显地把原文的范围改变了,根据文章第一句“Blenheim Palace is ne f the Eurpe’s largest and greatest palaces.”
再以【小题1】B项为例,“It is the largest ryal building in England.”与文章中“It is the largest nn-ryal building in England”并不一致,文章中“nn-ryal”与选项中ryal语义相反。
以【小题1】D项“It was built in hnr f Prime Minister Winstn Churchill”为例,Blenheim Palace是英国政府为Jhn Churchill修建,而不是为Winstn Churchill修建的。

根据文章第一段“A serius prblem fr tday's sciety is wh shuld be respnsible fr ur elderly and hw t imprve their Lives.(当今社会的一个严重问题是,谁应该为我们的老年人负责,以及如何改善他们的生活。) ”和“I wuld like t suggest several pssible slutins t this prblem.
根据题干中的“the gvernment”定位答案于第四段,此段第二句明确指出“This culd be financed thrugh gvernment taxes t increase the level f pensins.
根据题干中的“viable”定位答案于第四段,此段最后一句“The gvernment can seldm affrd t care fr the elderly, particularly when it is busy trying t care fr the yung.
文章第二至第五段提出了五种提高老人生活质量的建议,最后一段说“T sum up, all these ptins have advantages and disadvantages. Therefre , it is reasnable t expect that sme cmbinatins f these ptins may be needed t prvide the care we hpe t give t ur elderly generatins.

17.上文“Sme peple are unwilling t exercise fr fear f injury. (有些人因为害怕受伤而不愿意锻炼)”讲人们对锻炼会受伤的恐惧,下文“There are estimated 8.6 millin sprts-related injuries each year in America. 故选A项。
18.下文“One very cmmn issue in runners is knee pain, which is ften called “runner’s knee.”(跑步者的一个非常常见的问题是膝盖疼痛,这通常被称为“跑步膝”)”和“Anther cmmn veruse injury amng runners is stress fractures (骨折).
19.由上文“Bth f these injuries tend t happen because runners did smething ut f the rdinary cmpared t what they were trained t d. Take rest days, build up yur mileage (里程) gradually and cmbine regular strength training.
20.由上文“As with ther injuries, the risk increases tward the end f a wrkut. It’s very essential t listen t yur bdy.
21.根据上文“Exercise can put smene at risk f injury. (运动会使人有受伤的危险)”和下文“There shuld be a balance between pushing yurself t get better and pushing yurself tward an injury. S encurage yurself t d smething that yu are cnfident in ding.

A. chsing选择;B. watching观看;C. creating创作;D. seeking寻找。根据上文“and my kindergarten(幼儿园) class hmewrk was t draw their favrite her(我的幼儿园作业是画他们最喜欢的英雄)”可知,老师让孩子们画出他们心中的英雄,此处指孩子们正在专心创作,故选C。
A. difference不同,差异;B. sense感觉,知觉;C. reply回复;D. effects影响。根据下一句“We all lved him just the way he was.(我们都爱他本来的样子)”可知,Camern患有自闭症这件事情并不影响我们爱他,make n difference t sb对某人没有影响或作用,故选A。
A. learnt frm从……学习;B. relied n依靠;C. wrked with和…… 根据下文“Austin had a wnderful way f interacting with Camern, and helped him ___4___ his her”可知,Austin和Camern一起做作业。故选C。
A. cntact联系;B. find找到;C. visit看望,拜访;D. ignre忽视。根据下一句“Within a few minutes, Camern began drawing blue lines n his paper.(几分钟后,Camern开始在纸上画蓝线)”可知,几分钟后Camern才开始画的,说明此处Austin是在帮助Camern找自己心目中的英雄,故选B。
A. enjy喜欢;B. examine检查;C. share分享;D. revise修改,修正。根据下文“I listened carefully t each student’s…”以及“It was finally Camern’s ___8___ t share his her.”
故选A。
A. way方式;B. turn轮到的机会;C. effrt努力;D. cmpany陪伴。根据下文“Camern std up and ___9___ his drawing in frnt f his face.”可知,轮到Camern分享他的英雄了,It’s ne’s turn t d sth.
A. hid躲藏;B. clred涂色;C. dnated捐赠;D. placed放置。
A. disappinted失望的;B. afraid害怕的;C. curius好奇的;D. sure肯定的。
A. cmfrted安慰;B. surprised使惊讶;C. reminded提醒;D. calmed使平静。
A. patient病人;B. brther兄弟;C. her英雄;D. classmate同学。根据上文“my kindergarten class hmewrk was t draw their favrite her.(我的幼儿园作业是画他们最喜欢的英雄)”可知,作者布置的作业是画出最喜欢的英雄,Austin画的是Camern,说明Austin认为Camern是他心目中的英雄。故选C。
A. hard艰难的;B. necessary必要的;C. interesting有趣的;D. flexible灵活的。根据上文“He was n the autism spectrum(他患有自闭症)”可知,Camern患有自闭症,而这种疾病会使学习变得困难。故选A。
A. case案例;B. decisin决定;C. lessn课程,教训;D. suggestin建议。根据文章首句“We had just cmpleted a unit n cmmunity heres, and my kindergarten(幼儿园) class hmewrk was t draw their favrite her.(我们刚刚上完了一堂关于社区英雄的单元课,我的幼儿园作业是画他们最喜欢的英雄)”可知,最开始作者只是上了一堂关于社区英雄的课。故选C。
A. respnsibilities责任;B. reflectin反映;C. achievements成就;D. perfrmance表演。根据后文“Teachers shuld lead their children in discvering their wn amazing qualities and helping them find their inner superher.(教师应该带领孩子发现自己的惊人品质,帮助他们找到内心的超级英雄)”可知,带孩子发现自己的惊人的品质,并帮助他们找到内心的超级英雄,此处是指老师的责任。故选A。

的家园”用be hme t。故填t。
故填where。
