Yesterday morning, six lions were killed in Kitengela, just 15 kilometers south of Nairobi National Park. The killings have greatly surprised the people across Kenya and around the world.
Nairobi National Park is one of the most visited protected areas in Africa. The park is just a ten-minute ride from central Nairobi, and so it is a popular tourist place. However, the park is close to towns and farmlands, which has led to conflicts(冲突)between farmers and lions.
Part of the problem is that the park is fenced(围住)only to the east, north, and west—the sides closest to the city. That means zebras, lions and other wild animals are able to run across the park’s unfenced southern side. Some cross into town such as Kitengela, and kill farmers’ livestock, such as cows and sheep that are kept on a farm. As a result, the farmers become furious and kill the big cats. This seems to be the cause of the latest killings.
The Kenyan government says it will find and arrest the killers of the Kitengela Six according to the law, and then the killers will be punished. However, local community leaders argue that the government does not really take seriously the farmers’ livestock losses. Because of this conflict, says environmentalist Paula Kahumbu, Kenya must find “a lasting solution that will help people benefit(使受益)from living lions. “Kahumbu and other environmentalists are afraid for the lions’ future. For much of the past 12 years, Kenya has been losing 100 lions a year. This is largely because of the loss of the natural home or environment, but also because of lion killings. Unless there is a way to solve the human-lion conflict, Kenya’s lions could disappear in 20 years.
( )29.Which of the following is TRUE?
A.Nairobi is a popular tourist place. B.The park is hard to travel to from Nairobi.
C.The park is fenced only three sides. D.Animals cross the park’s border.
( )30.What does the underlined word “furious” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
    A.Angry B.Afraid C.Relaxed D.Hopeful
( )31.Which of the following is Paula Kahumbu’s opinion?
A.The government must arrest and punish the killers.
B.The farmers’ livestock losses are not serious.
C.Kenya must find a way that is good for farmers and lions.
D.It is unnecessary to worry about the lion’s future.
    ( )32.The passage is mainly about ________.
A.the recent death of six lions B.the falling population of lions
C.the losses of farmers’ livestock D.the conflict between farmers and lions
    C
People living in London give £2 billion a year to charities. Most people in the UK give money once a month in cash. People also get involved in charity work in different ways.
There are nearly 11, 200 charity shops in the UK, according to the Charity Retail Association. Oxfam has the largest number of charity shops (over 700) . Charity shops are run by volunteers and paid managers. People can donate mostly second-hand clothes, toys, books and other things that they no longer use. The volunteers then wash or steam the things to make sure they are clean before being sold. The money that is made from these sales then goes to a charity company. Many people believe that you can find very rare and expensive items at a low price in charity shops;you just have to know where to look.
Many sports events are also organized to help charities. You can take part in a charity race and get people to sponsor you. This usually means asking your friends and family to give money to the charity that you are supporting. You are sponsored for every kilometre that you complete. To run farther and collect more money, some people even make an exercise plan. Some events will be aired with a TV show along with reports about how much money is collected and how the money raised will be spent.
Red Nose Day (RND), a big event for the charity Comic Relief, takes place every two years in spring. On that day, you can see many people doing something funny or special for money. So, if you are ever in the UK on RND, you will know why you find normal people doing silly things with red noses and even men wearing women’s shining clothes on the street all day. It’s all for charitable causes!
( )33.Which of the following is TRUE about charity shops?
A.The clothes in charity shops are expensive.
B.The things in charity shops are cleaned first.
C.People working in charity shops are paid well.
D.There are nearly 11, 200 charity shops in Oxfam.
( )34.What can people do to help raise money for a charity race?
A.Plan the way of spending the money. B.Report the amount of the money raised.
C.Train regularly to run farther for money. D.Ask friends to give money to TV shows.

C.find someone shining D.show fashionable clothes

Did you know magnets (磁铁) are all around you? Magnets help you do amazing things! Keep reading! See if you think magnets have surprising uses.
    Magnets Push or Pull
Look closely and you will see. Magnets can be found in a fridge. The magnet attracts or pulls the metal to make the door closed. Do you know how? A magnet pulls things made of metals called iron and steel. But it will not pull other things, such as a wooden pencil or a plastic toy, which means it does not attract all.
    Magnets Have Two Poles (磁极)

You have shown magnets can pull some things to them. Why is this true? The two ends of a magnet are its poles. Every magnet has a north pole and a south pole. Have you ever played with trains that have magnets? Sometimes, you try to put two train cars together, but push away from each other. Then you turn one of the cars around. The two cars attract each other rapidly. When the train cars push away, two of the same poles are facing each other. However, if you put the north and south poles together, they will be together immediately.

Scientists are using magnets in new ways. There is a new train that uses powerful magnets to travel more quickly. Magnets lift the train above the track (轨道) and push the train forward. The train appears to be moving as fast as wind! They are much faster than the trains we know. Besides, in medicine, the powerful magnet is used to help patients produce heat to kill cancer cells without harming their body. The powerful magnet can also be seen in varied fields, like space, industry, and teaching. So it plays an important role in our life.

    【答案】29.C    30.A    31.C    32.A

( )35.Men in the UK wear women’s clothes on RND to ________.
A.celebrate the holiday B.collect money for charity
C.find someone shining D.show fashionable clothes
( )36.You may most probably read this passage in ________ Part of the magazine.

    【答案】
    How to Protect our eyesight
A large number of children and young adults have the poor eyesight. Nowadays, students have developed bad habits of using eyes, resulting in short sight. For example, many of us spend long time reading and doing homework without a rest. We have little time to relax. When we are in our free time, most of us prefer to play smart phones or computer games. Watching the screens of electronic products is very bad for our eyes.
Now something must be done to protect our eyes. First, take a break every 20 minutes while reading. Second, control the screen time. To relax ourselves, we’d better take part in outdoor activities instead of playing computer games. Last but not least, it’s also helpful to relax our eyes by seeing some green trees or doing eye exercises.
In a word, let’s take care of our eyes so that we can see our bright future
